Tired of all the DE talk with this draft, none of those guys are studs, I totally see them as being underperformers in the nfl. I see no problem with getting a guy like Olshansky, he's a proven commodity that won't cost a lot, we know what we get.
I believe quality defense is built from the middle. Ray Lewis made a career out of looking like a monster because he had Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams in front of him. Same as the great linebackers from the Bucs Superbowl with Sapp in front of them.
I think improving the interior of DL and ILB is key before getting the sexy sack machine DE or OLB. Those guys get most of their production from the QB not being able to step up in the pocket.
We spent ten years watching Dan Saleamua collapse the pocket and the opposing QB having to stay right where he was 5-7 steps back, waiting for DThomas or Smith to come around the corner.
If we had that kind of interior now, Hali, Babin or most other avg DE would be 8-11 sack/yr guys on our squad.
There is the occasional stud DE who can just make it happen (Jared Allen), but we already traded him away, his awesom sack totals last year only netted us 2 more wins than this year, I firmly believe the interior is far more critical than the exterior.
Peppers would be good, but not great on our team, but still worth picking up as a FA agent.
