Chiefs: Offseason Plan

1.  Hire a defensive minded coach who is a proven winner.  Giants Defensive Coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo would be a great fit.  It was Spagnuolo's defense that dismantled a great New England offensive line and held the greatest offense in NFL history to just 14 points in last year's Super Bowl.  This hire would allow the Chiefs to best utilize their current personnel and get the most out of their young players, especially Glen Dorsey who would be used as a Warren Sapp type player in a one-gap scheme.

2.  Sign a handful of free agents who can come in and make an immediate impact.  The strategy certainly worked out for the Falcons and Dolphins last season.  Terrell Suggs seems like the best choice out of the upcoming free agents.  He will be available for much cheaper than Julius Peppers and seems to give an amazing effort play after play.  Signing at least one offensive lineman to man the right side of the line is also a must as Damion McIntosh and Adrian Jones just aren't the answer for now or the future.

3.  Draft linebacker Aaron Curry with the 3rd overall pick, the Lions will probably take Stafford to chuck it deep to Calvin Johnson while the Rams will take Andre Smith with the second pick letting Curry fall right into the Chief's lap at 3.  Curry is widely regarded as the best defensive player in the draft and is extremely versatile.  He seems like the type of player the Patriots coveted over the years which is why I see Pioli taking him at this point.

4.  Draft at least two offensive linemen.  Brian Waters is somewhat on the decline and the three spots to his right are very weak.  I look for the Chiefs to take one of the talented centers coming out this year, preferably Alex Mack or Max Unger who would provide stability at the position for years to come

5.  Draft a quarterback on the second day of the draft.  Thigpen played surprisingly well last year behind a suspect offensive line and with virtually no experience coming into the season, however I'm not convinced that he can be a "great" quarterback in the NFL.  The Chiefs should bring in another talented youngster to compete with Thigpen and push him to be better.  I wish there were some way that the Chiefs could get ahold of Kevin O'Connell the guy the Patriots drafted in the third round last year out of San Diego State, look out for him in a few years after Brady and Cassell are gone from New England.

6.  Win three Super Bowls in three years, it happened at New England so it has to happen here..... right?........ realistically a winning season would to wonders in KC.  Arrowhead would once again be a frightening venue for opponents and 9-7 would get the Chiefs into the playoffs in a weak AFC west.
