How about this scenario?

Pioli keeps Herm for the rest of his contract... then hires his father-in-law Bill Parcells as Head Coach next season.  Parcells, who in my opinion is not done with coaching yet, would be exactly what we need.  The downside...  we would be stuck with Herm for another disappointing season.  I know, that's a pretty big downside, but think of the good things that could come of this:   young QB development, a coach with an uderstanding of offense and defense, discipline, and well pretty much everything we want in a Head Coach that we don't have now.  Hell , think of how much more exciting the press confrences would be.

This is just something that popped in my head today, and I wanted to throw it out there for discussion.  I have been visiting this site for over a year now, but this is my first post... so please be kind.

Do not forget

Parcells has an exit clause in his contract, why wait a year?

I just don't get the whole

Let’s keep herm another year then dump him..What if we go 9-7 next year…Are you just supposed to sack him after we kept him as coach in a 2-14 season…I think Pioli is going to grab the man he wants now as opposed to later..Despite what everyone may believe their is plenty head coaching talent out there right now. Pioli could possibly even talk parcells in to coming on board now, or shanahan, or spagnuolo, marty, possibly even cowher (maybe not likely but with pioli who knows), or another d coordinator in the league…

Regardless, I just don’t buy that they will wait a year to find the coach for the future..These guys work hard and they also want to work smart…Wasting a year on someone you don’t believe in (which is how you positioned this article) makes no sense..So if they stay with Herm it’s because their willing to see if he is the man of the future, and if they play well this next year, then he will have him self another contract and will be here long term..Yeah I don’t like that scenario but Pioli isn’t going to put hours upon hours into a job where he doesn’t 100% back the head coach in place

Agree that you should never retain a coach for "one more year"

But I can’t see this happening, ever.

Marty

Marty got canned after going 14-2!

Didn't Parcells say

He wouldn’t go anywhere his son-in-law got hired? I thought I read that somewhere.

No to Parcells.

He didn’t do much in Dallas. He’s done. Might as well re-hire Marty (which actually wouldn’t be the worst thing ever).

by DonnyDonovan on Jan 15, 2009 5:33 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

What?

All of the young talent on that team was drafted by Parcells.

Marty!!!!!!!!

Marty Marty Marty Marty. Oh sorry. Im just remembering the good ole days, and the fact that everywhere he goes the team seems to turn around on a dime. Even Shanny would works. NO MORE EDWARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a waist of time. All of you out there know that either one of those people would be a far better coach then what we have now. Pull the trigger Pioli!!!!!

thats the spirit chiefs24

It’s like everyone has already forgotten that marty is perhaps the greatest regular season coach of all time..He has never taken a head coaching job that wasn’t a rebuilding process and he has converted all into successful teams..And every team goes down hill after he leaves..Funny huh

But everyone seems so bent on hiring spagnuolo who has what like 2 seasons of experience at the coordinator position..That makes NO sense to me…

Marty or Shanny or Cowher…Any of those coaches please..If not then we didn’t hire the best coaches available..Mark my words, these coaches will lead teams back to the playoffs numerous times.

I haven't forgotten.
marty is perhaps the greatest regular season coach of all time..

I’m going to re-watch that Pioli press conference. I must have missed the part were he said that the goal set forth to him by Hunt was to have the greatest regular season record every single season, and never win a playoff game, and never compete for a championship.

Marty was fired after a 14-2 season for a reason. It only took one playoff game to figure out that he is still cursed. He can turn around almost any program in any state of distress; as long as you don’t want to win a playoff game.

I doubt it,

But a very intriguing possibility. Nice post.

Who knows...

As good as Clark was about not leaking anything to the media on Pioli, they may already have a head coach lined up and we just don’t know it yet.

Why do many people assume that if Herm stays, nothing will change and we will suck again next year?
The downside… we would be stuck with Herm for another disappointing season.

For a city that hated Peterson so much, we sure are ignoring the possibility that the recent suckitude had a lot to do with his poor personnel decisions.

I see no reason why a team led by Pioli and Herm next year couldn’t improve.

by PVChiefsfan on Jan 16, 2009 8:08 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Because this wasn't Herm's first job

so blaming it solely on the king doesn’t make sense. We don’t think he’ll go out and get “Coaching for dummies” and be a face on the sidelines that all of a sudden has a look of knowing whats going on.

Bill Parcell’s: "You are what your record says you are."

Thigpen WILL NOT be the Chiefs starting QB next year IMO. He can compete for the job and should be 2nd or 3rd string.

But if the suckitude was part King Carl and part Herm

won’t some of the suckitude be replaced by Pioli’s non-suckitude?

That’s all I’m saying.

A 2009 team led by Pioli and Herm would likely be an improvement over a 2008 team led by Carl and Herm

It'll only be half-sucktitude

As we hear the talking heads

Herm has been a big part of the personnel decisions since joining the Chiefs, just sayin.

I'm sure he has

but I kinda get the impression that the draft room was probably dominated by Carl…

just a wacky hypothesis – Maybe Carl only looked to Herm for input concerning drafting secondary players….
