Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

The challenge for NFL thinkers is how best to use Tebow. Can he be a full-time quarterback? (Not likely, unless he is re-made as a pocket passer). How many times can he carry the ball, making himself a threat without getting, as Belichick says, "broken in half?'' (Maybe 10 times a week? Maybe only five?). Can an NFL offense function effectively with two quarterbacks. Say, Tyler Thigpen for 40 snaps and Tim Tebow for 20? What would this do to your salary structure? Is a Super Bowl worth paying two quarterbacks NFL-starter money?

Too bad he won’t be around to try it out.

Actually with Chan’s inventiviness with the “pistol” I suspect he’ll be a hot commodity around the league. Some GM might look for Chan with the idea of getting Tebow.

We’ll see with NE if they retain both of their QB’s and win a SB. The salary cap is going up to $136 Mil. this year and it’ll take a $30Mil hit to their cap leaving plenty for the remaining team…if that indeed happens.

Bill Parcell’s: "You are what your record says you are."

Thigpen WILL NOT be the Chiefs starting QB next year IMO. He can compete for the job and should be 2nd or 3rd string.

What makes you all think Gailey will be let go?

Chan Gailey, I assume, is respected around the league for his ability to work with whatever he is handed. I applaude him in making our offense somewhat decent with sub-par offensive talent. No FB, RT, RG, C or reliable 2nd WR. Yet the offense put up points. Our defense, however, was absolutely terrible. Herm can be given credit for, given his own experience at coaching and playing the position, leaving us with remarkable CB talent (and I think Page has a chance too). But that’s about it. Thanks, Herm. KEEP CHAN!

Depends on the GM and HC

It’s about “the boys club”. The GM hires the coach ususally because of past history and working together in some fashion…“friendship”. The HC chooses his staff the same way. If a HC comes in and doesn’t have that “chemistry” with Chan than it’s possible he goes away.

We’re not debating whether Chan is a good OC or coach. It’s all about “who you know and how do you get along with him”.

BTW Bradley should be the 3rd WR

Crabtree should be the pick at #3 if we decide to not get, or miss out on, Bradford at QB. If neither then we should be looking to trade down. We need a DE, LBs, and maybe a def-coord that believes as much in the 34 defense as Baltimore, New England, Pitt and others.

So you want to go 3-4?

Better not worry about taking an offensive player with the number 3 pick. To run this successfully you need:

       a) a good NT which we don’t have.

       b) two good DT which we don’t have

       c) Four capable linebackers which we don’t have.

Seems like switching to that style would take a lot more than just believing.

Indecision is the key to flexibility

Right but..

we should focus on 34 long term. We need to draft and use FA to move in that direction. I’m no dummy. I know we don’t have the players yet. We should definately attempt to change. We don’t have the pieces right now to do just about anything defensively. What better time than a rebuilding mode to change the scheme?
