There has to be a reason other than bad drafting to account for the dismal showing of our defense. An article on Fox Sports about Tony Dungy may provide some clues:
"Dungy always had an eye for talent and knowing precisely how a player would fit in the system, particularly on defense. When Dungy arrived in Tampa Bay, Warren Sapp was a No. 1 pick that had been benched the second half of his rookie season. Derrick Brooks was an undersized linebacker playing on the wrong side of the formation. John Lynch was viewed as a converted baseball player who had been moved to linebacker. "
I was particualry interested in the Sapp reference. Sound like a DT and LB we know? Yet another reason to flush the defensive coaching staff. They have to know how to leverage a player's strengths; not force them to play outside themselves.
