Morning Update (Still No Scott Pioli News Edition)

Chiefs News

  • Even without a GM, the Kansas City Chiefs are still plugging along- "All of our scouts have left for the East-West practices and will go straight on to the Senior Bowl practices next week. (Pro personnel director) Ray Farmer is continuing to evaluate the waiver wire."
  • Arrowhead Addict is talking about coaching retreads in the NFL.
  • WPI puts together a long article about the Chiefs' Interim GM/President Denny Thum.
  • The only mock draft databases you need to know- Walter Football, Hail Redskins and NFL Mocks. Let's drop any Brian Orakpo being drafted by the Chiefs talk too. Not that there's been much of it. It's just that the guy has no business in the top five, let alone the top ten of this year's draft.
  • I found that clip about Demorrio Williams and harness racing that everyone was looking for.
  • Here's a really cool 1969 Super Bowl graphic for those looking for a cool screensaver or desktop background.
  • What helped the Chiefs win their first Super Bowl? Gatorade.

Other NFL News

We're still waiting on Scott Pioli news. And it's killing me. We'll have more coming up later today. The off season will start in force once we figure out who our new GM is.

Well at least with this post

You did not give me a heart attack. You have had posts up early the last couple of days, no news causing insomnia?

Lets hope Clark lets the new GM start fresh, with his guys. Who would want a coach, who has lost twice as many as he has won in KC?

ESPN Has Made A Lot Of Stupid Mistakes The Last Few Years

Hiring Leanne Schreiber was not one of them. She writes an excellent column and ESPN would do well to heed her advice.

As for the stories themselves, there’s not much that shocks me in journalism, but Chris Mortensen’s comment really did. It was unbelieveably arrogant and wrong…dealing with sources who give you misleading or false information is just part of the job but you still have to give those sources a chance to tell their side of the story or you’re just doing a hatchet job.

And Stephen A. Smith and Cris Carter are two of the worst analysts on television. It continues to surprise me that anyone hired Carter after he showed himself to be the weakest link on “Inside the NFL” at every opportunity. He should be fired for suggesting (twice) that a football player should be shot as a way of improving the franchise. Smith’s just a terrible journalist…I don’t know why ESPN keeps him around considering how little he provides in useful analysis and what appears to be overwhelmingly negative opinions of him from the viewers (he’s a constant target for mockery). He got fired from the Philadelphia Inquirer for not taking his journalistic responsibilities seriously (he got caught skipping out on a game he was supposed to be covering and texting in a column from the airport) and every show he’s done on ESPN has been shuffled around and eventually cancelled due to low ratings. He does a blog that’s quite possibly the most useless I’ve ever seen…all it does is link to his columns on ESPN. He doesn’t even bother to reprint the story, he just posts the headline and a hyperlink. What a complete clown.

Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.
