Herm Edwards on Tony Dungy
He was always about coaching his way. He had a certain style. At times people looked at his style, like maybe he wasn’t forceful enough because he wasn’t demonstrative or anything like that. He was always a guy who felt that he was a teacher first and foremost. He comes from a family of teachers. He was a big proponent of teaching fundamentals and techniques and being smart, not beating yourself, and helping the players become better football players and better men.
I always kind of took Herm for the poor man's Tony Dungy because I knew they were good friends.

They are both men of character
We can argue about Herm’s coaching abilities all day but he’s a man of character. I think he does what he thinks is truly right. Case in point is the LJ situation. Not many coaches would have kept their star player out that long before the league stepped in.

+1
We need a future defensive leader, his name is James Laurinaitis and he can be selected in round 1 of the upcoming Draft.

Yeah but...
The difference is that Herm’s a man of character with a couple of major character flaws;
- His sense of denial far too often clouds his ability to provide sound judgement
- He has a blame avoidance problem
Both of these make it hard to identify weakness, hence he never made any of the positive adjustments that would produce wins.
And of top of all that, I don’t think he’s a skilled enough game manager to succeed in the NFL.
The difference is;
Dungy suffers none of these character flaws and everyone hates to see him leave after so much success. Herm is like a persistent rash that we can’t seem to get rid of fast enough.

I Think
That hit the nail right on the head.
End result is that Dungy faces his problems, acknowledges them and corrects them, which is a large part of why he’s a successful coach. Herm seems to put a lot of time into denying that his problems exist and he keeps repeating the same errors over again, which is a large part of why he fails so often.
Herm Edwards will not be the Chiefs' head coach next season.

me too,
and until he was our coach and i saw his face all the time, I also thought they looked like brothers/twins. seems kind of silly now that i’m used to Herm’s face, but i used to think of him as Dungy’s younger, less talented brother.

He-he-he
Lets hope Clark lets the new GM start fresh, with his guys. Who would want a coach, who has lost twice as many as he has won in KC?

Too Bad Dungy Had To Go
He really was a great coach…should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. But everyone eventually reaches their end in the NFL and I guess he’d reached his. That he was able to stay so great for so long says a lot about his talents.

Has anyone ever seen...
Herm and Dungy in the same place at the same time?

Maybe it's like Fight Club
Herm has an alter-ego that actually is a good coach and takes responsibility for his actions.
