What is Larry worth???
I've read several post saying we could only get a 4th or 5th rounder out of LJ. Some say a 2nd (although I believe that's just a stretch to make their mock drafts look better).
My question is: What sort of player could we get out of him? A decent OLineman would be nice. Edgerrin James wants out of AZ too, could we just swap? How about Derek Anderson? LJ and 4th rounder for Anquan Boldin?
My point is: I think we can get alot more out of LJ by trading for a player than the oh so coveted draft picks. LJ has value. I don't want to compare him to Randy Moss exactly, but hey NE got Moss for a 4th round pick (and we all know how that worked out). I don't think Larry is done in this league I just think he is done with the Chiefs, and if we have to trade him, I think we can get more value by trading him for a proven veteran player. Lord knows Hermie won't go for it because who ever it is I'm sure they'll be over 23 years old, but it's not like being the youngest team in the league did anything for us in 08.
Just speculating while losing sleep over the GM hunt.........

Low value
Oakland would prolly take him. He could spit his drinks at any of the Bay Area clubs and no one would care.
Let's call him...Trogdor the Burninator!

If Pacman can still play in this league
after all his shenanigans, then Larry’s legal woes are small potatoes. Big enough potatoes I don’t want him on my team, but that’s not going to stop teams from wanting him. Hell the ticker tape on ESPN said today that some fool had said he thinks Plax will play in the NFL again…. I think it’s just as ridiculous that they get away with this crap as the next guy, but that’s what happens in today’s NFL.

His ceiling...
is a third round pick. I think we might be able to pull that off if we can somehow lace the deal with conditions. Like if Larry doesn’t start at least 8 games or doesn’t go over 1,000 yards we have to give back the third rounder in 2010.

Why in the world
would we trade LJ for Edgerrin James?
James is only 1 year older than LJ, but he has a lot more mileage…
James – drafted in 1999 – 2,982 carries
LJ – drafted in 2003 – 1,243 carries

Bill Parcell’s: "You are what your record says you are."
Thigpen WILL NOT be the Chiefs starting QB next year IMO. He can compete for the job and should be 2nd or 3rd string.

Let me repeat my question
What sort of a player could we get for LJ? I guess no one…..
by letral on Jan 12, 2009 12:08 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
At best
a conditional draft pick dependent on performance would be my guess.
The Day Herm Edwards didn't get his team ready to beat the Raiders at Arrowhead is the day he kissed his job goodbye.
So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehn GOODBYYYEE!

Unconditional? A fourth at best IMO.
If you trade him during camp to a team that loses a running back to injury, anywhere from a third to a fifth in 2010 depending on the number of carries he gets, maybe along with a decent player that doesn’t fit into that team’s long term plans, but certainly not a superstar.

I'll say this now.
LJ is going no where. He is still one of the best players the Chiefs have and commands respect from all defensive coordinators. If we land Pioli, he will keep LJ for at least one more year.

+1
If you are a new GM, and you are trying to develop your own young QB (either Thigpen or one we draft) what is the best thing to have?
A workhorse running back.
If we address the center (Alex Mack could be drafted in Round 2) and the right side of the line, there is no reason why LJ could not be a solid halfback again.

I agree
Larry is still one of the best rb’s in the game..He didn’t play three games of the season, and hardly ran the last portion of the season once we incorporated the spread and he still almost ran for 1000 yards…Plus our line if easily one of the worst in the league..Get real people I wouldn’t give up larry for anything unless he demanded to be traded..
I think Larry is a 1500 yard rusher behind a decent line.

Huh
I was going to write on here how larry was over rated and was washed up but than i decided to look up his stats and i was pleasantly surprised, i expected his YAC to be low but it was a ctually 4.5 and thats not that bad. the thing is though i see to many times where he misses the right hole and tries to make one himself by pushing through, i just would like to see him make more cuts and at least have some shiftiness, I do think he gets traded but i don’t think it is because it is his lack in production, he says he wants out and i think the chiefs know that this guy could become a cancer if he doesn’t get what he wants.

I partially agree with your statements.
Larry is very competitive and it is hard to know if he spoke honestly or was unhappy with his production in the last game and the play-calling by Herm & Co. I think that if Pioli comes in and things get shaken up, he will change BUT he can be a distraction and that has to be thrown into the mix. I honestly think that if the Chiefs turn it around and start winning and LJ isn’t carrying the rock as much as is still malcontent, he should go.

Anything
I’d take just about anything for him. Literally. I’m talking a case of lent rollers; a six pack of diet Sierra Mist. Just get him out of here.

I read...
the Redskins are thinking of moving Ladell Betts, the Blue Springs native. They believe they can get a 3rd rd. pick. We should be able to get at least a 2nd.
