The Denver Broncos have reached agreement to name New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels their new head coach, team sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen on Sunday.

Wonder what this means with Pioli
The assumption for some time is that Pioli could bring McDaniels with him wherever he signed on as GM.
Does McDaniels taking the Denver job mean Pioli is not coming to K.C. or is it just a case of it being a job too good to pass up?

oh s***
Considering what he did with Brady and Moss and now Cassell the Broncos are going to be scary good on offense next year with Cutler, Marshall, and Royal!!!
Double whamy since if we get Pioli now is that just going to mean we get that head coach from Iowa!?

Broncos already had a good offense
I’m not prepared to claim McDaniels is a bigger offensive mastermind than Shannahan.
I was concerned about the possibility of McDaniels as head coach anyway with all our young players. Would he be able to control them? Guess we’ll see how he does in Denver.

Just a guess
But, I think this portends that Pioli has told McDaniels one of two things:
1) He will take the KC job and not hire him as HC.
2) He has declined the KC job, and told McDaniels to seize the opportunity in Denver.
I highly doubt he would tell his friend to take a HC position for a division rival of the team he would be a GM for.
I think Pioli is GONE.

DJ, what are your thoughts on this?

Very real possibilities
It could also be that Denver is simply a better opportunity for McDaniels no matter what Pioli does and that given the choice between Denver with an established franchise QB and a good offense (his specialty) already and K.C. where the line is a mess, our franchise RB is heading out of town and getting by with a patch job QB (Thigpen) that he simply thinks its better for his career to go with the Broncos.
Everyone has assumed that Pioli and McDaniels are tied at the hip, but it might simply not be the case. Who knows?

Mangini left NE and went to a division rival
I don’t think this has anything to do with Pioli.

I don't know
I don’t think McDaniels was ever Pioli’s only choice for head coach. Here in Iowa City, there has been a ton of talk about Ferentz possibly going to the NFL with Pioli. From the reporting here, it seemed more likely that Pioli would take Ferentz than McDaniels. Every time Pioli is rumored to be interviewing for a GM job (almost every year) Ferentz is rumored to go with him. Plus Ferentz has been awesome at Iowa, gets the most out of young players, schemes to the strength of his players, and has NFL experience. I would be very sad to see him leave the Hawkeyes, but would be super excited for him to coach my Chiefs.
All that said, I think from what I have been reading, Pioli to the Chiefs seems at least still a possibility.

Not joined at hip
McDaniels took not only a good but better job for him, a better team with an established QB. He can’t bank his future on a job not even open yet with KC. I don’t see this having anything to do with Pioli but it does leave Mr Shanahan as a natural fit.

Agreed
Denver is a very good job, especially for a first time head coach. They have work to do, but they are not a complete rebuild like the Chiefs are. I don’t blame McDaniels for jumping at it.

I can't believe I am writing this
I would LOVE Pioli and Shanny to KC!

NE ex-coaches haven’t exactly set the world on fire.

Pioli Shanahan partnership here?
There were the reports that Shanahan contacted Pioli, is that to take our HC job to screw Bowlen? We all seen what business does to a friendship.(Carl, Herm)
Lets hope Clark lets the new GM start fresh, with his guys. Who would want a coach, who has lost twice as many as he has won in KC?

I don't think Carl is anybodies friend.
Remember how Vermeil was thrown under the bus after he left?

it could just as well be that
Pioli is coming here and has decided to keep Herm – so McDaniels was told he could go ahead and take the broncos job.

I heard that Pioli wanted
Thomas Pitts as HC, he’s suppost to be the best HC out of all of the Devry Tech schools out there.
My point being as far as anything concerned with Pioli everything has been rumor and speculation. McDaniels = Rumor, Ferentz = Rumor, Contract signing for 40 Million = Rumor. Nothing has been correct in any of this speculation.
Don’t worry about Denver

McDaniels is also rumored to be taking Dom Capers with him.

Yes
Another interesting situation, Bowden hired a HC before going after a GM, ala the Browns. Is Bowlen going to go Al Davis on the Broncos? If they want a GM it’s going to make it tougher to get a good one for them.

Shanahan
If he came to Kansas City it would take alot for me to get excited about him. I don’t want him to come here. He would have to turn the ship very fast. I have hated him for so long. We need something fresh. Shanahan is the anti fresh.

Lord Mentos Earl of Summer's Eve then?
We’d bet Shanny’s out for at least year, don’t see him finding something that appeals to his pedigree in an off-season. Also, Pioli + Shanny makes no sense if they’re marketing KC to Pioli as a “new baby” for Pioli, ‘too many cooks spoil the stew’ problems could arise too.
He’d be an interesting option if Pioli stays in NE and we end up with a less “established/empowered” GM.
Really the best news was Denver firing him, too bad norv turner wasn’t available for them too.

Shanny
Yes I’ve hated him deeply but I would LOVE him to come here, oh the betrayal felt in the heart of Bronco fans MAHahahahaaha!!!!!

Do you really want Denver's sloppy seconds?

shan
Is a great offensive mind . His problem in denver is he had full control to draft who he wanted he was in control of everything . With a good gm helping him out scouting guys it might be a good idea for him just to coach and leave everything else to a good gm.
