Adam Schefter Says the Chiefs Have Interviewed "At Least a Half Dozen Candidates" for GM Job in Recent Days
Floyd Reese |
Jimmy Raye III |
Ted Sundquist |
A quick note from Adam Schefter before these playoff games start.
In recent days, the Chiefs have interviewed at least a half-dozen general manager candidates, according to multiple league sources, yet only a handful of the names actually have surfaced.
Candidates interviewed include New England’s vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli, San Diego’s director of player personnel Jimmy Raye, former Denver general manager Ted Sundquist, former Titans general manager Floyd Reese and former Chiefs coach Marty Schottenheimer.
League sources insist that the Chiefs are waiting on Pioli, that he is their No. 1 candidate for the job. If the two sides cannot agree on a contract, then Kansas City will be prepared to move on. But apparently it still is in talks with Pioli, though no decision is imminent.
The Sundquist and Reese interviews are news to me. It's still all about Scott Pioli though for the Chiefs. I caught a mention somewhere that John Clayton of ESPN said that he thought that Pioli would return to New England.
Scott Pioli to the Kansas City Chiefs is far from a done deal based on the information we've been given.

Mr Pioli
I hope he isn’t just wasting their time enjoying being courted and getting an ego massage. If he wants to stay in New England, fine, I can understand that but if that is the case just withdraw already and let them be on their way. I can see good and bad in how things seemingly are dragging.
…and I told myself I was not going to spent one minute this weekend worrying about the Chiefs…every time I think I’m out they pull me back in…

I give him until Monday or Tuesday
I think the problem is us waiting on Pioli. It is time for him to make up his mind. He is a good candidate but the world does not revolve around him. The Chiefs job is an excellent opportunity and he should be jumping at the opportunity. If he can’t make his mind up fine, but let us move on. Pioli better be a genius, because it seems like the Belichek arrogance has worn of on him.

I agree
They have coaching decisions (hopefully finding a new one) a draft and free agency to prepare for not to mention talent evaluations. Decide one way or the other and stop holding up the train.

Pioli still has to meet...
Over at WPI it is being reported by a source in the NFL league office that Pioli is going to meet with Kraft and BB back in NE, sometime early this week, for a counter offer. Until then we won’t know anything… Or so I understand. Meanwhile Hunt is being reported to travel to the Raven camp for a couple of interviews there, today. The Raven’s head office is permitting interviews with the executives for jobs involving a higher carrer move only. This is to be on Sunday,(today), only, as they are preparing for next week.
