We just got Ingled!
There has been a lot of great chatter going on the last couple of days on my favorite blog. The much ballyhooed Quarterback "controversy" , if you can call it that, has been dissected by many. Of course we all have an opinion, just not the one that mattered. I was personally surprised that we passed on the apparently so so Chris Simms in favor of Ingle Martin (Who?). Wikipedia pages were blistered by bloggsters trying to figure out who this no name was. I still don't get it.
I do believe that it takes a different kind of person to throw that perfect fade pass to the corner, and also zip it into double coverage. Who wouldn't have liked to be the Tom Terrific (may he rest in peace) on their own team? No wonder we all are anxiously waiting for the Savior of our franchise, although Ridiculous Matt apparently already found his! I for one will keep dreaming.
Herm Edwards and Chan Gailey obviously know what they are looking for in their quarterbacks and proven experience is not required on the resume. I have been a big Brodie doubter, so I was obviously a little TOO excited about the possiblilty of a new gunslinger added to the roster. I think maybe my sub-conscious thought that Chris Simms was Phil Simms, or maybe Jay CUTler was getting cut and we could pick him up? Not sure. Still confused.
I like Herm and I think he has single handedly added more talent ( I just can't give Carl any credit for it) than anyone in the Chiefs organization for a long, long time. I will try to be patient and realize that maybe Ingle Martin is a piece of the puzzle and not a wine, Damon is the man right now, and Brodie (please come back and make me eat my words!) is the quarterback of the future!

Cutler is very good
I think he is the best young QB in the game.
But anyway, Simms likely wouldn’t have accomplished anything this year anyway.
Yea, Simms never looked all that great.
And that was pre-ruptured spleen, which is a crazy-serious injury.
I would have rather just stayed away, which is what we did, it appears. Plus, there has to be a reason that the Pats didn’t even work the guy out; maybe having something do with the spleen?
On to your first point, it depends on what you define as ‘young’. And, for that matter, I think that Phillip Rivers > Jay Cutler, but I suppose reasonable minds could disagree. Also, if Ben Roethlisberger counts as ‘young’ (and he sure as hell should) he could certainly be on the list. Cutler is definitely up there though; too bad (well, not really too bad as a Chiefs fan, but whatevs) that their run D is pretty much atrocious. I don’t care how good they looked last night, that was the fricking Raiders.
Raiders Have A Good Rushing Offense...Usually
Fargas was actually tearing things up last season…their big problem was their tackles couldn’t pass block worth a damn. If they’d just be able to find one who is competent, the Raiders would actually be a pretty good offensive team. JaMarcus Russell looks like he’s got the potential to be a good pro if he’d get a little time. Right now, though, that line of theirs is 2007 Chiefs-esque in its porousness.

Cutler > Rivers already
I’m probably biased because I hate Rivers with a fiery passion from the gates of hell. Mostly because he’s a bitch, yes, a total bitch. I don’t know if anyone remembers at the end of his second season, he came in during the second half of the last game when Brees got his shoulder blown to bits by John Lynch. Anyway, he threw a pick in that game, and during the return he stomped on the leg of one of the Denver players that was laying on the ground and drew a personal foul, a la Albert Haynesworth – just not on some dude’s mellon. It was then that I knew he would be a total bitch for the rest of his career. He sealed his fate last year when he was seen talking trash during the Denver v. San Diego game (can be seen here). Interestingly enough, he was talking to Cutler. Rivers is a grade A douche bag. He’s a douche bag within another douche bag, a whiner and a poor sport.
Back to the point – after watching Cutler slice and dice on Monday night while not even having his top receiver on the field, I have to say he is going to be an elite QB in this league. I knew he was going to have a good year this year… but I will wager that he makes the pro bowl this year if he can lead Denver to the playoffs – especially now that Brady is out. I am sickeningly envious of Denver for having him. He is clearly the best of the 3 QB’s taken in the ’06 draft.

Especially Since
The other two are looking like they’re heading out of the NFL soon. Vince Young’s apparently talking retirement. I thought it was really cheap how the Tennessee fans were booing him at the stadium after he got hurt…the dude isn’t very good, but nobody deserves that (I certainly didn’t cheer when Croyle got injured). Matt Leinart seems to be regressing in physical ability as well as skills.

young
talked about retiring after his first year. he seems like a really complex/unstable dude. kind of like the Rampage Jackson of the NFL world.
and im not saying that in a tasteless, joking manner. i have a world of respect for both of them for what theyre not but could be, but still am amazed sometimes at what they are.
Naming my son Brodie Damon
I Think Young Is Just Not Cut Out To Be A Pro Quarterback
He can’t complete passes and he throws way too many picks. He was great in college, but that’s just a different game than the pros.

Agreed.
They are two completely different games, almost. His skillset fit in with the college game perfectly, and he, without a doubt, should have won that Heisman Trophy his junior year.
However, he just doesn’t fit in as easily in the pro game.
re: Simms and the Pats
The Pats contacted Simms on Saturday, before Brady was injured. Once it was clear Brady was out, they weren’t interested in Simms as a back-up QB anymore.

Cutler is already better than Rivers
And I believe this year will prove it.

with LT
I could be a decent QB…Rivers has never impressed me…Cutler has, often.

then why does tavaris jackson still suck?
peterson was as productive last year
Naming my son Brodie Damon
Because jackson
isn’t even decent =) I’m not saying Rivers is Rex Grossman, just that I think he is a long way from Jay Cutler.

Until Pollard slips him a candybar...
Poor taste? Probably.
He still plays for the Broncos, I blame all the desensitizing tasteless blogs these days.

I Have Been Smacking Myself In The Head
For taking Carson Palmer instead of Jay Cutler in my non-Arrowhead Pride fantasy league. I’ve got an absolutely stellar team there except for the QB spot, thanks to the Bengals’ front office’s utter stupidity on personnel. If I had Cutler on that team I’d be destroying everyone by 40 points a game. AAAAAAARGH!!!
So yes, Primetime, I think he is the best young QB in the league. Denver found an absolute gem.

I wish them all the best....
on other teams. This is one of the best FanPosts I’ve read in a few days. Thanks “TheQ” for your sense of committment and faith. I’m confused and concerned just like everyone, but I am ready to just stand behind the team and cheer them into the season. I sincerely pray that the QBs we have are the perfect guys for THIS year. Let them learn and develop along with the rest of the team this year. We all expected difficulties and trials from the start, but since the start of training camp, expectations have gone from zero to “How come he isn’t perfect?” Come on, let’s give them the opportunity to succeed or fail. Let’s cheer them on and support them, instead of constantly looking to replace them while they grow. Patience this year. Next year, we will raise the bar and demand more, but let them prove who they are and what they are capable of by playing.
Seriously
You thought Cutler even had a chance of getting cut? Sorry if I missed way out on your sarcasm?
