Chiefs Sign QB Ingle Martin
Not Chris Simms or Tim Rattay but former Titan practice squad QB Ingle Martin was signed today by the Kansas City Chiefs (or he'll be signed tomorrow technically but he'll be on the team).
Quarterback Ingle Martin on Tuesday agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs after the team offered him a spot on the their 53-man roster.
The Titans had a chance to promote Martin from their practice squad to the 53-man roster to keep him, but opted not to. Martin starred locally at Montgomery Bell Academy and spent all of last season on the team’s practice squad.
Even though Vince Young is currently injured, the Titans let Martin slip away from their practice squad. More info on Martin is here.
We're still waiting to see who was dropped from the 53-man roster to make room for Martin.
H/T to Jimmy from Music City Miracles.

QB
Is this QB better than Simms? Anyone have any info on this QB?
Simms
Simms hasn’t played in two years and is coming off an unprecedented injury. I would hope he’s better than Simms.
Still waiting to see who gets dropped
Maybe it’s Thigpen?

Or the Chiefs
carry four QBs while Croyle is hurt.

They Won't Put Him On IR
That’ll end his season. Everything they’ve said points towards him coming back this year. We’ll probably carry four QBs until Croyle’s back, then either Thigpen or Martin goes.

4 QBs makes sense
Behind Huard there is no NFL experience so I’d imagine they would want to keep their options open.
Didn't he lose his job to Chris Leak?
Didn’t Chris Leak try out before OTA’s? So a reject of our reject is the answer?
Aw, Hell...
He’s another 1-AA quarterback. He was Rex Grossman’s backup at Florida for two years, then he went to Furman where he had a career fairly similar to Tyler Thigpen’s. He was drafted in the 5th round of the same draft we grabbed Croyle from.
So it looks like Damon Huard’s the man this year.

Correction
He was Grossman’s backup for one year then he lost his job to Chris Leak his sophomore year. His numbers were okay at Florida his sophomore year, but that’s because he padded them against two crappy teams (San Jose St. and Florida A & M). He started two games against good teams (Miami and Tennessee) and got knocked out of one with a concussion (Miami) and played horribly against the other (Tennessee).
This signing say “Ugh” to me.

Is this guy related to Ricky?
but can he sing?
I guess if Gruden’s hobby is collecting old QB’s, maybe Herm likes collecting QB’s that have to be projects. That’s okay if he’s developing QB’s for the next Head Coach.
I Have A Feeling
That when the next head coach comes in, none of Herm’s “projects” will be on the roster for very long.

What pray tell
is an “Ingle Martin”? Sounds like a vineyard.
The IV....wow....
at least he’s the fourth, reminds me of our only SB win! against the Vikings, who we traded our best rusher to……weird….
Did you notice
that Jared Allen didn’t have any impact on the Packers game? I couldn’t find his name anywhere on the stat sheet.
No Tackles, No Sacks
I’m sure he’ll have better days ahead, though…he’s simply too talented not to.

If he doesn't
plow into a lightpole first. Hope that guy gets his act together, but from his early behavior, it looks like the same old Allen.

In the comment section on Tennessee's site...
They referred to our organization as “a real football team”

Finally our own Kyle Orton...

Maybe...
is it possible we signed him kind of temporarily b/c Thigpen’s been injured and Brodie’s out for a couple weeks so that Huard isn’t all by himself and we have to have Colquit take snaps? And we will drop him when we have our original 3 @ 100%. Then it would make sense not to sign a “starting calibur” QB and waste the money on a knee jerk reaction. I’m just wondering if that sounds legit….
id prefer martin
to thigpen, because ingle martin sounds like it will bring us the favor of Santa Clause for some reason
Naming my son Brodie Damon
Ingle Martin...
…was heavily recruited out of high school after leading his team to 3 Tennessee state championships…Parade all-American, state player of the year, etc…he chose to play at Florida because of Steve Spurrier, who bolted for the NFL after Ingle’s freshman year (where he backed-up Grossman at QB, as well as recording some starts at punter and WR)…
Ingle never fit in with the Ron Zook regime and left for Furman after losing the QB battle to Chris Leak…
Drafted by Green Bay, released last season…spent 2007 on the Titans’ practice squad…
He had a great preseason back home in Nashville for the Titans this season, including leading the team on a memorable 4th quarter drive for a game-winning FG against the Raiders…a number of Titans fans thought he’d outplayed Kerry Collins for the #2 job, but the FO didn’t agree, releasing him but signing him back to the practice squad…
he has a ton of potential, but is a bit of a project…I’d say he’s likely better than Thigpen…
Obviously
They aren’t bringing in a guy to challenge for the starting job. Looks like an emergency guy they are bringing in for a 3rd QB and when Croyle returns they’ll cut him and maybe try to put him on the practice squad.
#3 competition
Judging by his preseason play, the fact he was recruited by Florida State (compared to Coastal Carolina), and since he was originally drafted by the Packers I think the guy has a leg up over Thigpen. The Packers even throughout the 90s always have been good at selecting QB’s in drafts. I paid close attention to all QB play in the preseason and his #‘s made his name stand out to me. I think they should study him alongside Thigpen all season and make a decision on who to cut but if I were a betting man I’d say its Tyler
I’m disheartened Simms wasn’t signed, but he was at least worked out. So many passed on him doesnt speak well for his return which I was hoping would land in KC. This practice squad seems about right though; add another low-key pickup to the KC squad

I'm telling you, it's a KC Orton
Can we nickname him “Meat?”

"UGH"
…I was originally surprised Titans didnt move him up to active roster after Young’s injury and especially since he was a wanted man. What does it now mean if Titans passed him up so they could sign Simms (which they’re doing) ?

I'd bet Simms costs more than Ingle "Meat" Martin

martin
Supposedly this guy is pretty athletic. Has a pretty big arm and good mobility for his size. He actually ran the ball quite a bit at Furman with some decent success.
I remember during the Croyle/Martin draft that the Chiefs (as well as a number of other teams) were pretty high on Martin….
He has obviously been the 3rd/4th qb for a reason, but it seems like he has some good tools to work with, and being around favre for a couple years probably served him well. It will definitely be interesting to see what kind of impact he can make on this team, where the starting qb job (IMHO) will be up for grabs as long as Croyle is the frontrunner
From What Came Out During The Favre Saga
Being a backup to Brett Favre didn’t involve a lot of mentoring because Brett Favre wasn’t of a mind to help anyone in taking away his job. Apparently he gave very little assistance to Aaron Rodgers. Can’t imagine he’d give much more than the time of day to the third-stringer.
And yes, the conclusion I drew from the entire Favre drama this offseason is that Brett Favre is something of a selfish, insecure prick.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.
Something had to motivate him
to keep that consecutive games started alive. Insecure sounds about right…..
