Quarterback of the Future?
I know there's a lot more football left to be plaed this season and there's a raging debate about whether we've seen enough of Croyle or not but IF the Chiefs pick a QB next year in the draft who should they pick? I know with Carl it's a big IF.
Let's look at three QB's in the college ranks right now a senior, a junior and a sophomore. If I have that long of an attention span.
First one of my favs: Chase Daniel
Chase is a bit short for a NFL prospect but, I know it's cliche, he makes up for it with heart. Also, the only experience he's had in college has been in the spread offense.
That said he is an extremely accurate QB and has the wheels to get out of trouble and to pick up a first down. Coach Pinkel raves about 6-0 225 senior calling him "...a coach on the field" and "a true team leader."
From 2005-2007 he's had a 63.1% completion rate and 62 td's and 23 int. Plus you throw in 8180 yards and it's pretty impressive. Also, he was 16-17 with 3 td's last Saturday. Even in the back yard that's amazing
Naturally, it remains to be seen how well he performs this year with all of the media coverage and defenses gunning for him.
Next up it's the Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow.

I know a lot of people say this guy's game won't work in the NFL. I tend to disagree. I have been wrong before and I'm sure I'll be wrong again. But this guy is a beast and a true competitor.
He's only a junior and most analysts project he'll stay at Florida but with the cash that's being thrown at high profile draft choices you never know. Nobody can argue with his accolades as a running QB so I'll just list his passing stats, which are provided by ESPN.com.
His stats are pretty impressive too. A career 64.9% completion rate and a 40 TD to 7 INT ratio.
I'm especially looking forward to your all's feedback on this one.
The Sooners sizzling, sophomore sensation Sam Bradford is next on my list.
Sam, as sizzling and sensational as he is; is still only a sophomore and wows the croutons out of me.
First off, he's 6-4 giving him plenty of room to see over the line of scrimmage and the long arm to give him a lot of torque.
He's proved to me he is very accurate a career 70.6% completion rate. Last year he racked up over 3600 yards and 36 touchdowns in his first season while only throwing 8 picks. This guy is certainly a NFL prospect.
Well, sorry for taking so long. Feel free to chew me up and spit me out. Just curious to see who you all think would be a great QB to draft if Brodie ain't the guy.
All stats and info come from ESPN.com, Rivals.com and my head.

Bradford
He is an impressive young QB,which hurts since I am a Tiger fan! I think his game translates to the NFL better than the other two. Although, I would like to see the Chiefs use a later round pick on Daniels . I think he might surprise somewhat like Troy Smith in Baltimore. They are both smart guys who can “figure it out”.

Agreed
Bradford appears to be the best candidate out of the one available (if he declares early).
I wouldn’t mind seeing Daniels with a late-round pick either (gritting my teeth after saying that since I’m a Jayhawk fan) but the QB I think has the most potential out of the definite entrants in next year’s QB class is Graham Harrell from Texas Tech. Pro size, pro tools, and he completes passes like a guy with a shot at being a good NFL QB.

Yeah
Harrell is very good. Very accurate arm. Do you know anything about Nate Davis the quarterback from Ball State? He has amazing stats and Whitlock thinks he is the best QB in college football.

Sad To Say I Don't
But keep in mind that Whitlock’s a complete homer when it comes to Ball State (since it’s where he played college ball).

Not All That High On Tebow
I think the knocks on him are pretty valid…he’s a scrambler with questionable passing skills. Maybe I’m wrong and he’s another Elway, or maybe not.

Agree
I have to agree that Tebow is definitely not the player the organization wants, and I think they want somebody who can definitely sling the ball but also is solid on rollouts. If we were to find a Jay Cutler type (minus the diabetes) he would elevate the chiefs offense and give herm the qb he wants.

I'd Still Take Cutler
Diabetes or not. If you’ve been watching the game tonight, Cutler’s been nothing short of amazing. Best QB out of his draft class by far.

Chase Daniel
I watch Chase a lot, and he is a good QB in that system. But he is a TOTAL system QB. Have you noticed how far back in the shotgun he stands?
I think Missouri is a good school to get your skill players out of right now, especially WRs (would love to see Maclin line up with Bowe and Franklin), but the way QBs are used in the spread offense makes them poor candidates for the NFL and they usually have a tough transition. Daniels is smart and runs that system good, I just dont see him as an NFL starting guy.

+1
chase daniel is a piece of shit. he will struggle hardcore in the nfl even if he ends up somewhere that runs a similar system. maybe doug flutie-esque, at best.

I Think He'd Be A Big Project
But I think he’s got the skills to be a good NFL passer. Whether he can operate effectively out of a formation that puts him under center is open to debate but that wouldn’t necessarily mean he’s not worth a shot with a late round draft pick.

Danielss!!!
I try not to be a spelling/grammar junkie on boards… but I feel you, that one scissors my timbers.

I can't spell half the time either...
but it’s pretty easy not to add an S to his last name people. BCS CHAMPS = MIZZOU

If we are to look at next years draft for a QB...we
shouldn’t. ‘09 class looks weak. Tebow might be a real stud in the NFL, but till then something looks off when I watch him play. Can run like a Clydesdale, but his throwing mechanics look awkward, and other times mechanical. Watching Tebow play QB for me is like watching Urlacher return kicks in New Mexico(which he did by the way). We don’t need another runner we have five of those guys already. We need a passer with enough mobility to evade the rush, and run if he has to.
If we are seriously looking for another QB we should look at making a push for QB’s already in the leagye guys like Brady Quinn, Alex Smith, or if Aaron Rodgers looks to be the real deal in Green Bay then Brian Brohm.

Brian Brohm...
has chocked the entire preseason and is currently third on the GB depth chart behind 7th round pick Matt Flynn.
by Dono on Sep 9, 2008 10:15 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Which Means Nothing
Because the guy’s a rookie and rookie QBs are generally horrible, even if they’re talented. If Brohm’s a terrible QB by his third year, then I might concede that he’s not any good.

Brady Quinn gets my vote.
If Anderson has another solid year we might be able to get him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Grahm Harrell
Seriously I think GH would be the best fit for us. The only downside on him is that his numbers will be a little inflated due to Texas Tech’s system. But really the guys has the size, tools, etc. Also Grahm can actually take a hit. I went to Tech and our O.L. isn’t anything special, he took some big hits. Seriously the guy is a machine. Really I think if he falls even to the 2nd round he would be a steal. Does anyone know what rnd he is projected even though it is a little early?
by Prospero15 on Sep 9, 2008 9:49 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Not Sure
It’s way too early to project with any accuracy anyway. Probably a discussion best held in December, when we’ve seen enough of their season to judge somewhat objectively.

Ive seen 3rd.
That is the highest I’ve seen him, can’t remember which site though. I’m also talking about legitimate sites not JoBlow’s mock draft.

Stafford
I would rather have him from Georgia than Chase Daniels or Sam Bradford even though i think both of those guys are good, but Stafford is mobile smart and plays in a very good conference…..i’ll keep my eyes on him
by IamtheGreatest on Sep 9, 2008 1:14 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Low Completion Percentage For Stafford
Pretty ugly, at least freshman and sophomore years. He’s having a much better season this year, but we’re only two games in so we should wait to see if his performance regresses to the mean. If he keeps performing at this level this year, though (and next, assuming he doesn’t come out early) then I’d say he’s worth a high draft pick.
