NFL veteran quarterbacks Chris Simms and Tim Rattay should be headed to Kansas City Monday evening and they are expected to workout for the Chiefs sometime on Tuesday.
Both Simms and Rattay were rumored to be at the top of the list in New England for the Patriots to step onto their roster for the injured Tom Brady. But Chiefs sources say both quarterbacks left Foxboro without being offered a deal. It sounds like the Patriots must have something else working behind the scenes.

I'm not sure about either of them being the answer, short or long term.
Simms has shown flashes, he has also thrown a good number of INT’s. And he has some cajones. But that also is what made him a free agent. He would stay in there and get blasted constantly which got him severely hurt. Plus, if I am not mistaken. Isn’t he a lefty? That would make the RT cover his blind side. Thus meaning he would be getting an injury settlement rather quickly. Who would want McIntosh covering your blind side, especially at RT? I honestly don’t know much about Rataay. If it’s the same guy, I think he backed up Warner after Lienart got hurt in AZ, If you ask me, I would probably consider brining in Culpepper for a work out atleast. And I don’t know Joey Harrington’s status. But if he is avaliable I like him, he just needs a little work.

P.S, All of our QB's are suffering from a career threatening illness.... Dick Curl.
Get rid of him, and they have a chance to recover.

sounds like
your description of simms is eerily similar to that of croyle

Except that...
Simms has won an NFL game.

But ironically
Not since Croyle has been in the league…

Yeah
And his injury history isn’t nearly as bad as Croyle’s. You’re right, this could be bad.

I say
sign Simms to a 1 year contract and let him compete with Huard for the starting job this year. What do we have to lose? Croyle says that he hopes to be back in 2-3 weeks, but most seperated shoulder injuries require more time to heal than that. Especially since it is his throwing shoulder. I know there are others out there with similiar resumes, but I think he his one of the younger ones and has the most upside. Imagine if we got lucky and Simms did resurrect his career in Kansas City! Do you really want Culpepper or Harrington messing with our locker room mojo? The nice thing is this isn’t about money or even draft picks. We can sign Simms and see for ouselves what he is about with very little risk to us.

YES!
Finally this team makes a free agency move that makes sense! Taking a flyer on Simms is genius. The kid competes hard, has a good arm, and needs development. I don’t necessarily think this is a good coaching squad to develop QBs in general, but Gruden is notoriously taskmasterish. Maybe with some motivation and no expectations he could excel! Sign him! Sign him now!

Agreed.
I don’t have any more faith in Simms then I do Croyle, but I would much rather at least take a flyer on Simms to be a halfway-decent QB than sticking with Damon Huard. If Huard is the starting QB in two more weeks, even if he plays incredibly well (Huard 4 MVPZ!!!), he doesn’t belong in the starting lineup.

Simms?
Hasn’t played in two years and couldn’t beat out Brian Griese for the back-up job.
And he’s so “tough” that he nearly played himself out of the NFL.
He’s showed flashes of being an average (maybe slightly above average) quarterback.
Not much different from Croyle, in my opinion. Not interested in a guy who hasn’t seen the field in two years.

Let's put it this way.
Look at what we’re paying Huard. Look at what we’re getting out of it. I’m absolutely willing to do anything to try and find a quarterback solution. Drafting is something that is only going to give us more headaches. Let me put it this way. Tim Tebow broke records and won the Heisman, has a national championship, a cannon of an arm and is a physical freak of nature.
And still, I’m terrified that he’ll be the biggest bust in a long line of NFL quarterback busts.
It’s going to be hell unless we find lightning in a bottle. We might as well take our chances before embarking upon the nightmare that is trying to draft a first round quarterback.
VICK IS A NO-GO. Sorry, but as much as I’m willing to rationalize a wide variety of moral and legal improprieties in professional sports, there’s a line. Plus, it’s not like he was awesome before.

I'm willing to do anything as well
But not make the same mistakes that led us to drafting Croyle. And the other quarterbacks for the last 2 decades.

You Know What The Really Sad Thing Is Here?
The fans of our team at this point would rather do anything but draft another quarterback because we have so little faith in the management of this team to either find a good one or develop one who has talent.
That’s a sign that the problem with this team isn’t the quarterback or the players on the field.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Allegedly
Croyle “beat out” Green for the starters gig in KC few seasons back. Different situation/different club I know, but the same in that I believe the table was tilted in the QB competition for Simms in Tampa. With the fallout w/ Gruden I don’t believe he was given a legitimate chance at the #2 spot. Since we’re on topic – does anybody have Simms actual preseason #’s? How much playing time did he receive comparatively? What were his stats?
Were Simms days in Tampa numbered before his injury or was he showing promise the accident?
by KansasCityShuffle on Sep 9, 2008 1:00 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Simms had one average season
In which he started 10 games.
Pretty sure he didn’t play during the preseason.
His play didn’t warrant him being on the team. They have a veteran back-up with much more experience and another one that was drafted.

Croyle never beat out Green
They never competed for the starting job.
Green was the undoubted starter heading into the season and Croyle was just a rookie.

Oh god
Huard 4 MVPZ!! Forgot all about that, that’s hilarious.

Yanno
I was originally one of the biggest detractors of Huard because he’s not the standard of what any QB should be in my opion nor anything near a franchise QB (which this organization desperately needs). But through watching Croyle with hope and aspirations for this team I’ve came to the realization Huard deserves the starting job. Sure, he’s not pretty nor anyone to be proud of but to me he’s shown performance and an ability to move the ball down field which for whatever reason isn’t there w/ Croyle. He’s a valuable assest to have on the team in my opinion as he’s always there when called on unlike other veterans
But I’ll say it again, I think in the locker room and with this youth movement Simms seems like the best candidate for the job and I for one am completely sold on it!

Offensively
We need a QB who can get out of the pocket, who can work with our offense. It’s sad to see that they have to take out boots, and rolling out because Huard can’t move 5 yards in ten minutes time. I know thigpen is extremely raw but he is honestly the better option for us “a rebuilding team” over Huard. I know Huard gives us the better chance to win. Right now I prefer bringing in someone else, at least until Croyle is ready.
