Chiefs looking at Simms...
I don't know what our chances are at making this happen - and I have no faith in King Carl - but this is interesting:
via Rotoworld:
In addition to the Patriots, the Chiefs and Titans have reportedly contacted free agent Chris Simms.
It sounds like there'll be a small bidding war for Simms' services. However, the Pats are the early leader to sign him, as he'll be in Foxborough for a physical on Monday and could put pen to paper by the end of the day.

It'll be the Patriots
I’m not sure if their offense is similar to what he has run in the past but New England would be his first choice because it’d be immediate playing time.
Not so fast
my friend. How would it be immediate playing time? What has Chris Simms done
I think Cassel will start for now.
You're right
Oversight on my part. It’s probably the best chance for playing time.

Not only playin time, but actually helping his stats personally for the future as well. He isn’t just trying to help NE win. He sees pass chances there..
His future is as a back-up quarterback
NE is the best place to be, in my opinion.

Pats will sign him no question. I think the opportunity and program is too alluring. However, depending on how smart Simms is he may possibly be looking at his career beyond one season and out of the 3 teams I believe Kansas City is the only place he could earn a starting gig to “ressurrect” his career. Let’s face it, its Brodie’s job to lose and I’m routing for him but the realist in me believes that similarly to how Huard out PRODUCES Croyle I think that if he had to compete for his job he wouldn’t win
I think Simms is worth the risk and could fit into KC’s picture nicely

Simms just isn't that good
I’m not sure where the thinking started that Simms is a good NFL quarterback. He’s very average, at best. He’s started 19 games in his career and frankly hasn’t shown much more than Croyle.
Besides, he was cut in Tampa Bay where he couldn’t beat out four other quarterbacks.
Simms
He had one half of a good season in 2005. Beyond that he’s pretty much sucked. Talked to a lot of Texas fans and they’ll point out that he wasn’t even the best QB on the Longhorns roster when he played there. The guy’s “potential” is largely based on name recognition because he’s Phil Simms’ son.

P.S.
Simms is much, much tougher than Croyle

Sarcasm?
You realize that he’s never actually played an entire season, right, due to both injury issues and performance issues. He’s not quite as fragile as Croyle, but he’s close.

He played the rest of the half with the spleen injury
I call it stupidity but the buzz word is “tough”.
He Also Lost That Game
Call me unsentimental, but I’ll take “good” over “tough” any day.

I don’t believe Simms left Tampa Bay because of his inability but rather issues w/ Gruden that resulted over his injuries. I’m fully aware Simms has never played a full season but the knocks he’s taken and gotten back up from puts him over in the toughness department. You want stupidity look at Merrimam. I don’t think you guys are really reviewing the options and when you have people posting about Shaun Hill then you know are options are limited..
I love the perspective change I’m reading from one game. I think people are starting to realize Croyle, perhaps just like Simms, is at best a career backup

Gruden
I suspect that the reason Gruden soured on Simms wasn’t because Simms got hurt so much as because Simms wasn’t very good. Gruden’s job is to win games and he’s very good at that. He’s not going to set his QB and team up for failure just because he feels like winning a pissing contest with one player. After all, he plays Jeff Garcia and the rumors are that he can’t stand that guy.
As for Hill, I’m fine with picking up him if he’s available on waivers. I just don’t want us to trade anything for him because he’s not worth it.

I’m not sold Simms was shipped out because he was the lesser of the 5 QB’s on Gruden’s roster. I do think history factored somewhere into the equation and I think by all accounts Simms days were over in Tampa before this season even began. Many players can run their course in one organization to go excel in another. Mind you Gruden at one point also passed on Rattay so again, given the options, I think Simms is the best option and fits into our picture in KC. He’s young, has good ball placement, and in my opinion worth the risk. The only other free agent name I’ve heard who has skills better than those on our team is Culpepper and well I think he cooked his own goose

Are there any QBs worth trading for?
If they are remotely interested in Quinn or someone else who may be expendable, now may be a better time value wise than during the off season. Seattle got Charlie Fry at the beginning of the season for not much. Thoughts?
None Right Now
Any QBs that we might be interested in trading for are going to be overpriced at this point, especially since we’ll be dealing from a position of desperate need. We’re better off waiting until the offseason.

For Real?
I just can’t see them even considering trades and potentailly giving up the valuable picks needed in our rebuilding phase. I think its free agents or draft and I personally would have them rely on the latter than fixing a trade. Like you’re asking – who’s out there and at this point I don’t see anybody worth it

Does anyone
Wish we had drafted Colt Brennan right about now? I know it is a real reach still, but I am just saying that I wish we had a quarterback who was clearly showing promise, besides the one who is always hurt.
Word
Crazy as it sounds, I think Brennan is the true future of Washington as opposed to Campbell (and what a steal at the position he was drafted)

I Wanted Brennan
Thought he was definitely worth a risk…much better chance of making it than Thigpen. I think he’s got a great shot at being Washington’s QB soon, since it appears that Campbell’s time is limited.

people shied away from him
because he looked like utter douche at the senior bowl. His bowl game last year was a little disappointing as well. But I’ve heard he looks great up in Washington… had a good offseason/preseason. I guess we’ll see in a year or two.

Senior Bowl
He apparently tore a hip flexor in Hawaii’s last game and tried to play through it in the Senior Bowl, which is why he stunk. The prognosis, though, was that he’d make a full recovery so I thought he was well worth the risk…physically, at least. Biggest problem with him was character concerns, so I didn’t think he was worth a first-day draft choice.

I think Campbell is safe
He had a decent season last year. 60% and 2,700 yards in 13 games.
Although I guess it’s safe to say that any fringe player is in trouble when he wasn’t selected by the current regime.

Jim Zorn
actually knows how to develop QB’s, unlike Carl or Herm. Perhaps he wouldn’t have had the coaching to actually excel in KC (or the receivers) because he obviously has funky mechanics and still needs a lot of work. But he was terrific in preseason play and I think he will be a future star in the league
by KansasCityShuffle on Sep 9, 2008 12:40 AM CDT reply actions
In fact
1-3, I think in the QB postition Washington has arguably the most depth in the league
by KansasCityShuffle on Sep 9, 2008 12:51 AM CDT up reply actions
Campell is definitely safe
He had a poor first start but the entire team did. Everyone raves about his progress over the summer. He’s been pegged to break through this year and he certainly has the tools at his disposal to do so
by KansasCityShuffle on Sep 9, 2008 12:41 AM CDT reply actions
It's his third year
Which is when he should break through. Just like Brodie.

did you say break through?
or break down?
