Also says Tom Brady’s injury is “quite serious” and could possibly be done for the season.

Nah,

Brodie will be out for at least half the season, but we’ll never really hear what’s wrong with him, not unlike LJ last year.

I think we should play Thigpen.

At least it would be more interesting than trotting out the same old, veteran stuff that doesn’t exactly jive with being the youngest team in the league.

Even if he is “better”, I really don’t understand the point of spending some valuable in-game experience time on some veteran QB when this season is all about building for the future.

by rockchalk on Sep 7, 2008 9:10 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I would disagree

on the grounds that I think that Thigpen is too bad to play in the NFL under any circumstances. Huard will at least help simulate a normal NFL game. Thigpen would not IMO.

If We Were Trading For An Older Vet

The list should start and end with Carson Palmer. The guy’s still in his prime and will be for awhile, his team is falling apart, the front office of Cincinnati is a joke, and he’s a class act a good leader and a top-notch QB.

And I think it’s only a matter of time before he gets sick of playing for the Bungles.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

by UCrawford on Sep 7, 2008 10:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Can't imagine the Bengals would even entertain the idea

He’s signed through 2014. They paid him a $15 million bonus in ’05 and a $9 million option in January ’07.

The Bengals tried to find a quarterback for 15 years before Palmer. They spent plenty of high draft picks.

I don’t see this even being in the realm of possibility.

by primetime 07 on Sep 7, 2008 11:03 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I Think They'd Entertain a 1st Rounder

If Palmer has more games like he did yesterday. And Palmer would be worth it…that team’s going backwards fast but he’s still an excellent QB.

Get ready for Quinn...

You know Carl gets a hard on just thinking about Quinn in gold and red. Dont be surprised if next year, we have Brady and Brodie, and we can all frost our tips and pop our collars. But seriously, Brodie is not an NFL qb. KC needs Tebow!!

Naming my son Brodie Damon

by troy145 on Sep 7, 2008 9:23 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

How so?

Seems accurate to me.
Brady is a douchebag, thus the collar poppin/frosted tips.
Carl, won’t draft a QB, I could see him trading for whichever Cleveland QB doesn’t make it.
KC needs Tebow. Hell, everyone needs more Tebow. Plus a nice God fearing man like him would fit in great in KC.
To those still hanging on to some pipe dream that Brodie is an NFL quarterback, get over it. The guys a joke and hopefully played his last NFL game today.

by HIV 2 Elway on Sep 7, 2008 9:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

quinn isnt anderson, so he/you was/are wrong

tebow will suck in the NFL so he/you was/are wrong

as far as God fearing, Brodie is about as good as it gets, just instead of foreign missions he went domestic.

Trent?

Anyone wish now we had Trent Green still? I’d take Trent and his 6+ concussions over little bitch Brodie or anyone else we got

by C-7PumpkinSmasher on Sep 7, 2008 9:22 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Tebow

is the ultimate system quarterback. If the Chiefs switch to the spread he would fit. As for Green…whats Blackledge doing now? Either sign Simms or take your chances in next years draft.

Simms

Not a bad option. Im almost surprised they havent signed up already…

by C-7PumpkinSmasher on Sep 7, 2008 9:37 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Pats are bringing him in

Simms is an average quarterback. And that was before his spleen was removed.

by primetime 07 on Sep 7, 2008 10:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Printers Is Horrible

We don’t want him. He’s doing miserably in the CFL.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

by UCrawford on Sep 7, 2008 10:51 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'd trust

David Greene starting Week 2 more than I ever would Tyler Thigpen ; ^ ) Huard can actually get yardage and if they actually play Thigpen I just dont know what to think. Hopefully Simms is starting to look more attractive as I for one wouldn’t mind seeing him in a Chiefs uniform.

I dont think we’d ever draft another QB (in high enough rounds to make an impact on next few seasons team) so I think considering the options a spleenless Chris Simms doesnt look too bad.

by KansasCityShuffle on Sep 7, 2008 10:15 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The only time I wanted to see Thigpen

was 1st and goal on the 5 yd line. I thought he might have added a running option.

Henne

We should have drafted Chad Henne.

by Prospero15 on Sep 8, 2008 9:24 AM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I Don't Like Henne

That guy was one of the most overrated QBs in college. He had the benefit of playing behind a great line with a very good running back (Mike Hart). His own performance though, was extremely mediocre. I think Miami’s going to be very disappointed with how Henne works out for them.

by UCrawford on Sep 8, 2008 10:56 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ryan Mallett

Was a better QB than Henne at Michigan.

by UCrawford on Sep 8, 2008 10:56 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Now with Noodle-Arm leading the way

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Henne man the clipboard for a season or two and then get dealt to some other team if Pennington looks like he has 4 more years in the tank.

by PVChiefsfan on Sep 8, 2008 10:59 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Henne

But here is the deal with Henne…. He can manage the game and at least has some upside potential as opposed to Damon. Even though I also agree that he is overrated, he still has played in big games and at the very least can manage the game, which is why I think he would have been a good pick for us due to Brodies reliability issues.

by Prospero15 on Sep 8, 2008 1:00 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He's Was A So-So Game Manager In College

He wasn’t a great one, especially considering the wealth of offensive talent around him.

As Cris Collinsworth said last night, “game manager” is something of a backhanded compliment since it’s usually used as a euphemism to describe a quarterback who’s not all that good. Henne’s never been that good. I’d prefer to target John Beck before I’d want Henne…Beck played in a weaker conference but he was a stellar QB in that conference.

by UCrawford on Sep 8, 2008 1:37 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Henne's issues

I was listening to Colin Cowherd this morning and he had a guest on (can’t remember who) that was talking about Henne in Miami. Apparently a knock on Henne was that he has bullet-itus. Much like Brodie did (maybe still does) he would throw every pass as hard as possible. No touch, every pass was a line drive bullet. They think that Pennington will help him develop that touch because, obviously, Pennington doesn’t have anything near a bullet arm and has always had to work with finesse. I think they like Henne in Miami to be the future starter after noodle-arm moves on/out. I don’t think they would get rid of Henne, not after just drafting him.

As UCrawford mentions below, Beck is a more likely candidate out of Miami, for us and for them.

by Ochophosphate on Sep 8, 2008 1:47 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Why take Beck?

I don’t want anyone unless I KNOW they are better than Croyle.

Quinn, Beck, Henne, etc.? No thanks. We’ll be testing for our QB of the future when Hali retires.

by NJChiefsFan on Sep 8, 2008 2:01 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Reasons For Taking Beck

1) He’s the #3 QB in Miami…so we won’t end up having to pay as much for him as we would Henne. Especially since he doesn’t appear to be a Parcells favorite.

2) He was an outstanding passer in college. Croyle wasn’t. Is that a guarantee that he’ll be better in the pros than Croyle? Of course not, but then none of the likely options we’ve got (including Brady Quinn) are guaranteed to be better either.

3) He’s not shown himself to be overly injury-prone. So at least we’ll get a chance to see what he can contribute instead of waiting on him to be healthy enough to play.

Combine his inexpensiveness with his demonstrated potential and he’s not really a horrible gamble at all, so long as it’s a low draft pick we get him for. If the Dolphins want a first-day pick, though, we should certainly forget it.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

by UCrawford on Sep 8, 2008 2:12 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I guess my question is...

Why take anyone?

I’m not discarding Croyle yet, and he’s only out 2 to 3 weeks.

Huard plays. Reinsert Croyle when he’s back, and let him play.

I’d rather keep the draft picks. We might not get the QB of the future from the draft, but I think Herm and company have shown they can get good players through the draft.

by NJChiefsFan on Sep 8, 2008 2:33 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I Wouldn't Have A Problem Trading For Someone

If it’s a 7th, 6th or even a 5th round pick. Guys drafted that low have a low probability of paying off anyway. But I agree that if there’s nothing somewhat attractive available for a low pick that we’re better off drafting a QB next season and restarting from scratch. The receiving corps and line will have a year under their belts with a competent QB in Huard anyway so that will help in the development process a bit with a new guy, plus you never know who might be available on the free agent market.

I’m not discarding Croyle yet, and he’s only out 2 to 3 weeks.

Yeah, but that was an optimistic projection…they said they “hoped to” have him back in 2-3 weeks, which usually means there’s a good chance he’ll be out longer. As for discarding Croyle, I’m fine with putting him back in for the rest of the season if he demonstrates he can outperform Huard, but not unless he can clearly outperform him. Otherwise we’re just holding up the development of the rest of the team to give playing time to a guy who a) isn’t showing us that he’s capable of being a franchise caliber QB and b) probably won’t be healthy enough to ever develop into a franchise-caliber QB. Croyle’s inability to stay healthy should definitely count against him this season when deciding who plays quarterback.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.
