Brady's Knee Injury

Gang, a quick fanpost to say that I DO NOT, in any way, consider the injury to Tom Brady to be a dirty play by Bernard Pollard.  Pollard was doing his job trying to get to Brady and the ball.  You'll find the same reaction from a Poll I put up over at Pats Pulpit.  Unfortunate, no doubt, but not dirty.  Pollard seems genuinely upset about causing the injury in the course of doing his job.  No harm, no foul.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Everyone, even the NFL, agrees

Moss was just venting and protecting his QB it sounds like.

Agreed

You’ll hear that sort of frustration from teammates whenever a key player goes down, from any team. That’s just the way it goes..

agreed

pollard was already on the ground…not like he could avoid hitting his leg

Thanks for posting this

You know what? This has been one of the better back-and-forths we’ve had with another SBN site in a long time.

You do a great job at Pats Pulpit and it’s already regained its status during the Tommasse days…

Glad to hear it.

We’re homers, but we also try to be football-smart and fair about it.

That’s a pretty good young team you’ve got there. Lot’s to look forward to. Just my .02 on Croyle: he’s young. Huard is bound to look better than him just by his experience. Croyle will improve, and he’s got a good arm—don’t know why Herm didn’t stretch the field with him more than he did.

As Mr. Sloan always says, there is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about. --Shaun of the Dead

The Chiefs Have Got Promise

So does that young QB you’ve got stepping in for Brady. I doubt he’ll be as good (who would?) but with that receiving corps he’s got he’s still got a shot at keeping you competitive this year. Can’t count out any QB who’s got Welker and Moss to throw to.

Yeah

the Pats may not score 30 points a game each week, but with a solid o-line and a front 7 who can stop the run, and Moss and Welker, and Maroney, you guys could head to the Super Bowl again with a backup QB

by PVChiefsfan on Sep 8, 2008 7:48 AM CDT up reply actions

Earl Morrall

Just remember that the backup QB saved the season for both the old Baltimore Colts (twice) and the undefeated Miami Dolphins team.

So you never know with Cassel until he’s had a chance.

We have our back-up in now

Does that mean there is a chance at a SB!(he-he)

by Eric Allen on Sep 8, 2008 11:40 AM CDT up reply actions

I know

I was being serious…Brady is great, but I think you could put any halfway decent guy into that spot, and still have a playoff contending team.

by PVChiefsfan on Sep 8, 2008 12:41 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

I think the Pats still have a chance to be contenders. They’ve taken a hit, but not one they can’t recover from because they’ve still got a lot of weapons.

NFL rules hit is legal

Not that we had any doubt, but here’s the NFL’s interpretation:

The NFL’s officiating department has reviewed the Bernard Pollard hit that injured the left knee of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and has deemed it within the rules.

NFL rules state that “no defensive player who has an unrestricted path to the quarterback may hit him flagrantly in the area of the knee(s) or below when approaching in any direction”.

But the Pollard hit was deemed legal because “the defensive player was coming off and affected by a block by the offense”, according to a league spokesman.

Belichick has a press conference at 3pm EDT. We’ll see if he’s more talkative than his usual self.

Brady's Out
The Patriots just released the following statement regarding Tom Brady:

“After extensive tests this morning, it was revealed that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s left knee, which was injured in the first quarter of yesterday’s game, will require surgery. He will be placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the 2008 season.”

Ouch

Sorry guys…always sucks when your franchise player goes down. Hopefully he’ll be able to return at full strength next year.

Yeah, hopefully

The league isn’t as fun without the best team at full strength.

Saw an interesting quote from Vinny Testaverde today. He said he was never the same after his ACL in ’00.

The NFL is wierd

The Colts looked bad last night, SD lost on the last play of the game, and this with NE. The perennial superpowers are off to a rocky start. To bad for Brady, sorry NE fans, but you at least have a chance.
