Post-game thoughts
1. D-Bowe Show or D-Bowe D'OH!!!!
so I put my hands AROUND the ball?Drops can kill drives, teams, and even games. Bowe had several today, and no one has ever accused him of being immune from this problem. Bowe also saved us with his athleticism several times and caught our only TD. In the T.O. mold, you have to take the good with the bad, but this is something to be concerned about and watch for in his young career.
2. Fade routes, Seriously?
this is the fade route in its natural habitat...somewhere in between a catch, incompletion, and interception. So, first and goal at the 5 with 50 seconds left. Time to run your most effective plays and tie the game, right? Wait, let's look at the history of playcalling in the Herm Edwards era. No creativity. No blocking. No aggressiveness. What do these things tell us? We will run at least once, and I am okay with that, although I would have run a draw w/ Charles instead of a slow developing counter w/ LJ. Three other plays. We ran a curl to Gonzalez at the goal line. This would be the only "good" playcall of the sequence. However, it didn't work out. The others? Fade routes. The most uncreative and risky play there is. Fade routes have roughly a 30% chance of succeeding with your guy catching it in bounds, a 10% of being intercepted, and a 60% chance of landing incomplete or being caught out of bounds. This is risky and seems to stack the decks against success. That said, Bowe dropped a sure TD on the first fade route. So we were already playing w/ long odds. Seriously, run a play that gives the QB more than one option. No creativity or aggressiveness results in risk and, ultimately, failure. Shame on this team for lacking that instinct.
3. Why were the backups in the game?
this is where Jon McGraw is valuable, in a practice uniform. Take note Herm.Jon F. McGraw entered the game for his first defensive series with the Patriots backed up at their own 1. They predictably ran twice, struggling to get out of the endzone. But unlike other coaches (cough...Herm), Bellicheck has some balls and called for a pass out of his own endzone on third and long. Surely the defense had this ONE possibility to worry about in their minds? Jon McGraw...did not. He was late and slow over to cover over the top for Surtain, who obviously thought he had help. Aside from being beat, my thought was, "Why is this asshole in the game in the first place? We have three safeties that are better than him." McGraw, on the same drive, missed a tackle on a long Moroney run. Ultimately, the patriots completed a 99 yard drive w/ a TD to Moss, exploiting PAT THOMAS in zone coverage. He might be better than Nap Harris, but there is an issue there. Later, on another Patriot TD drive, the Patriots marched up the field on the ground. Noticeably missing on the drive? Glenn Dorsey and Tank Tyler, our starting interior lineman. Boone and Edwards are no comparison, and the Patriots exploited that difference as GOOD teams do. Why are the backups playing though? Is it an early season conditioning issue? A Herm preference to get everyone in some kind of rotation? Whatever it is, it goes against classic football logic of putting your best on the field at all times. It cost us two TDs and the game.
4. Youth was very impressive.
There's a bright future ahead of you, Jamaal.Branden Albert delivered several punishing run blocks at the point of attack and kept the left side of Brodie and Damon protected. Glenn Dorsey and Tank Tyler did very well on the inside, while Turk McBride looked better than Tamba Hali. Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr held their own against some very good receivers, although Moss's stats may show otherwise. Pollard and Page played well. But the star? Jamaal Charles. He looked better than LJ. There was a dynamic, fast, and quick presence when he was in the game that was simply lacking when LJ was in there. Where LJ was content to run into the scrum, Charles picked his spots, broke tackles, and exploded away from trouble. He is a playmaker, plain and simple. We should use him more.

5. No answer on Brodie Croyle.
No way for us to tell if you can play QB when you're on the bench. Warning: Football hurts and there will be bruises. While Brodie was in the game, he looked very good. He made safe decisions and good throws. However, he was the victim of drops. His stat-line was the victim of some D-Bowe D'OHs, most notably the big play potential in the 2nd quarter. But we were unable to see if Brodie had, in fact, turned a new leaf. Brodie had been beaten and bruised all day by whomever Damion McIntosh failed to block. It got to him, and he took a shot when Charles was put in a situation where he had to choose from Rodney Harrison or Adelius Thomas. He picked Harrison (Trent Green fears?). Thomas hit Croyle hard to the ground, but it didn't look dirty or even any worse than any other hit NFL players face. Brodie....couldn't handle it. A bruised shoulder resulted, and Brodie didn't seem willing to push himself enough to come back. While we did not find out about Brodie's abilities today or how he is progressing, we did find out he CANNOT play through pain or take hits. The old knock on his durability is reaffirmed.
On a positive note, the Chiefs made a close game out of a sure laugher. Is this progress? I don't know, and it's too early for anyone to assess. There were good things, and there were bad things. The problem is that the bad things seem to be habitual problems of the Herm Edwards Chiefs. Next week will be a better opportunity to win against a very overrated Denver team. Boy do these Chiefs teams know how to rip your heart out....
Good try....I guess...This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

He played pretty good, I thought.
Sure, he didn’t blow through the offensive line all that much, but he did get one sack and was in on a bunch of run stops.
He isn’t going to be Warren Sapp out of the gate, y’know.

I take it back on the sack.
I was wrong.
You are right, he did have a worse game than I thought.
He still played average, or maybe even good, but he certainly wasn’t as good as the coaching staff has made him out to be, at least not yet.

This was really well done.
Croyle may be the best quarterback but he’s like a rag doll out there…

End of Game
We wouldn’t even have to worry about the other plays if Bowe would have caught the ball that first hit his hands, and then hit him right in the facemask. That was terrrible.

You trying throwing a football after you separate your shoulder, and then say that.

That's true
But the knock on his durability is still reaffirmed.
Brodie can average 250 yards/game and 2 TDs per game but we will NEVER be successful with a quarterback who can only go 75% of the time.

What?
He’s proven he isn’t durable. I didn’t say or infer anything about heart.

I think
he was talking about this quote
"Thomas hit Croyle hard to the ground, but it didn’t look dirty or even any worse than any other hit NFL players face. Brodie….couldn’t handle it. I agree with the Charles’ assesment. He changes the tempo and I think he has a bright future in this league. For whatever reason, our franchise seems to have good luck w/ backs from Texas

sorry
I accidentally pressed enter….but anyways Croyle checked down way to many times and though it may be playcalling he didn’t even look down field which was some what pathetic, i do think that he needs to be in there but in all honesty we looked better with Huard but the play calling changed so we’ll probably find out next week, as for Johnson he consistently missed holes that were open, he is strictly a north and south runner and with this offensive line thats not always a good thing, Charles has the shiftiness to change directions and cut to the hole that is actually open and i think we need to seriously think about making this a dual running back threat and give both backs 10- 15 carries.
Bowe looke bad in the first half but made some plays in the second half to make it an okay game for him but seriously we need more from “The show” if were going to do anything.
Gonzalez was Gonzalez and is the best ever….no question in my mind
Darling- had a great catch but needs to get open alot more than once in a game- and I thought he was supposed to have more speed than that but maybe that was just me…
The Defense was IMO very good….yeah they give up some big plays but they caused some fumbles and covered some very good receivers pretty well
all in all i think that if the Offense can spread the field next week and the defense has as good a game as they did today ’hopefully even better with more pass rush" the raiders may be i nsoem trouble .I am excited for the rest of the season and hope the Chiefs can win some games which i think they will

Dual backs
I think that’s the idea. Charles will come along slowly.

My favorite part of the game
Seeing LJ and Charles in the backfield at the same time.

Yep
after playing arguable the best team of the millenium, we will be in a three way tie for 2nd place in the AFC West – We can jump right into the thick of things by beating the Raiders next week.

Good Things
Many good things happened and many bad. Most expected a blowout, but we hung in there against a much better team. I’m pretty happy with the quality of the players and know they will continue to improve through the season. I was expecting a close game because of the quality and experience of the Pats against the quality and inexperience of the Chiefs. I was tasting a chance at a tie or even victory. How amazing and unexpected by nearly everyone!
What hurt the most about losing was because of sorry, mundain play calling and the obvious lack of using the talent we have. Where were the bootlegs? What about play action? Why not stretch out the field to expand the box? How many times do you run over L Guard and L Tackle, the weakest positions on our line? Do we even have a “Special Teams” coach? Do you have to take a timeout to decide to run the same play on the goal line?
Excuse me, I need to go throw up again.

What are you talking about?
The LT and LG are the only solidified part of our line. Brian and Branden are men among boys.

Agree
Albert impressed me…even if he hadn’t missed all 4 preseason games, holding off Seymour is tough. The fact that it was his first action against someone from a different team makes it even more impressive.

the game
Agree with most of the posts. The change in perspective is great. I thought before the game, can we keep it close. Now its damn we should have taken , arguably the best team in football , to overtime on the road!

too conservative..
ok I agree with everything above—-ESPECIALLY the mcGraw comment—WTF is he doing on the field—
Croyle is made of glass—-he was hit MUCH harder earlier in the game
This crap of inside right—inside left for 1st and second down HAS to stop or we will be 4-and 12 —and I think 4 will be a stretch. we really have the talent to do something --but if we *-foot around we wont win a game—-I thought “we played to win the game” not to run the ball on 1st and second and pass on third…..

I want to see...
Charles running wild in the first half of games. Making defenses chase him all over. Then in the second half I want LJ to barrel over tired defenders. And can we get some downfield passes occasionally!! Was that the only play Darling was open? Or the only one they sent him deep?
