What advice should Jake Delhomme give Carson Palmer regarding Tommy John surgery?

How is Jeff Otah looking? Was he worth the 1st rounder?

Was last year a fluke for Julius Peppers? Will he get resigned?

by Joel Thorman on Sep 30, 2008 8:58 AM CDT reply actions

The surgery was a success

Delhomme says his arm is stronger than it has been for years. We’re still loving the Jeff Otah trade, the guy is a beast. He actually cost us next years 1st plus a 2nd and 4th from this past draft.

Peppers contributes in so many ways, more than just sacks. This past week against the Falcons he had 5 tackles combined, one for a loss, 1 sack, 2 hurries and 2 passes defensed. Rumor is the Panthers have already made an offer to resign him but nothing has been announced.

What's the state of your rush defense?

Larry Johnson has been hot the last two games…. will you guys be able to hold him back?

by Vince D on Sep 30, 2008 10:08 AM CDT reply actions

The rush defense is playing very well.

The Panthers have held the following RB’s to less than 100 yds and zero TD’s: LT, AP, Turner & Forte. LJ will be next.

The Panther run D has been a strength so far.

How in the world did the Vikings beat you

if AP didn’t get 100 yards? Oh yeah, Tavaris Jackson wasn’t playing, so he couldn’t throw the ball to your guys =)

by PVChiefsfan on Oct 1, 2008 12:54 PM CDT up reply actions

Vikes are tough to run on

Throw in a couple turnovers, 12 penalties and a sack for a TD and it spells loss.

Playoffs

Carolina appears ready for a run at the playoffs but can they topple the NFC elite (DAL, NYG, etc)?

by Joel Thorman on Sep 30, 2008 12:12 PM CDT reply actions

I think they can win the NFC South

Whether they can beat Dallas, NYG, Philly or GB in the playoffs is still up in the air. I think if they stay healthy they can beat anybody on any given Sunday. I really thought Dallas was the class of the lague but then they lost to the ’skins, so that gives us hope.

So I gots Jake Delhomme on my fantasy team...

AND I love that chicken at popeyes, and have McNabb.

When should I start him?

Can you explain why a good ole QB and two wide receiving studacles don’t equal instant victory, and how you esplain that to chiefs fans?

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Sep 30, 2008 2:13 PM CDT reply actions

I rarely draft Panthers in fantasy

I’m too much of a Homer. Jake had a good week last week and maybe he will again this week. I wouldn’t play him because from week to week the Panthers could change the game plan and run the ball 40 times. They’re too unpredicable on offense.

Do you guys feel like

all your penalties the Panthers are getting are going to cost them any games? Or do you think this is something they will work out as the season progresses?

How likely do you think it is that the Pathers defense shuts down the Chiefs offense on Sunday and turns them into a one-dimensional passing team?

have you seen my baseball?

by IISaiNtII on Sep 30, 2008 4:22 PM CDT reply actions

Whoops

To go with that last question, how good is the Panthers secondary to stop our WR’s and TE?

have you seen my baseball?

by IISaiNtII on Sep 30, 2008 4:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Penalties are a big concern

But I can’t say its why we lost the Minnesota game. It better get worked out as the season goes but so we’re getting too many penalties on both sides of the ball. Two weeks ago it was the offense (7), last week it was the defense (6).

I think its very likely the Panthers keep LJ in check. The Chiefs will have to pass the ball effectively to beat the Panthers. Our secondary has played well but rookie FS Charles Godfrey has been beat deep a couple times so I would think the Chiefs should test him early and often.

Gonzales should have an active day

The Panthers can be had over the middle of the field at times. SS Chris Harris though is a good tackler who excels at stripping the ball. Watch out for that. MLB Jon Beason is playing well in coverage too.

Draftnik questions.

Primetime beat me to the Otah question, so here’s some more:

  • Dan Connor was thought to be a steal in the 3rd. How has looked like a steal, or is i starting to look obvious as to why he fell?
  • Teams almost ALWAYS have buyers’ remorse when they trade away a first, as you guys did for Otah. Has it set in, yet? Or has there been no regret?

by Direckshun on Sep 30, 2008 6:34 PM CDT reply actions

Conner went on IR last week

Tore his ACL on special team in the Vikings team. He was looking good to that point but wasn’t going to play much given how deep the Panthers are at LB.

No buyers remorse on the Otah trade. Though he went down with an ankle problem last week word is he will be good to go against you guys.

Is your pass rush

A aggressive, violent rush, or is it more of a consistent rush? Just wondering, we are running low on competent QB’s. Do we need to go tackle eligible all game?

by Eric Allen on Sep 30, 2008 7:54 PM CDT reply actions

The pass rush is the Panthers weakness on D

They rarely get good pressure with just the front four. They will mix in some zone blitzes plus they have pass rush lineup they deploy. Also, for the first time this season the Panthers moved Peppers to the left side on some plays. The Panthers also frequently will drop Peppers or Brayton into coverage and blitz a LB or safety.

Why did Steve Smith snap?

I never saw him as that kind of guy. It looks like him and Lucas are getting along fine now, but there must be some underlying issue?

by TheQ on Sep 30, 2008 8:32 PM CDT reply actions

Not the first time

6 years ago he did the same thing against a practice squad player. Check out what Jaxon from CSC had to say about this most recent incident.

by Joel Thorman on Sep 30, 2008 9:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Thanks PT

He does seem to have some anger issues! The crazy part was how he described the fight as particularly violent. Steve Smith doesn’t seem big enough to do that kind of damage to a Safety? He must have hands like Roy Jones Jr.!

by TheQ on Sep 30, 2008 9:32 PM CDT up reply actions

Steve Smith is strong, not just for a guy his size, but period

That’s why he is so hard to bring down. He has a wicked stiff arm.

He obviously has anger issues and my personnel opinion is he is arrogant. So when someone talks smack to him he can’t take it. Lucas is a CB by the way and he and Smitty match up in practice frequently. In both punching incidents it was described as a ‘sucker’ punch, meaning the other guy didn’t see it coming. Smith has never disputed that characterization. So you have to consider that if your going to sucker punch someone you should be able to knock the shit out of them, which he did to Lucas and the UDFA TE (his name escapes me at the moment) six years ago in the film room. BTW, he sued Smitty, said he ended his career and they settled out of court. Couple hundred K I bet.

How is the D-line

with Jenkins going to the Jets and Rucker retiring?

by cmpotter on Sep 30, 2008 9:28 PM CDT reply actions

We miss Jenkins on the field

but not in the locker room, where he was a distraction. Damione Lewis has played well though in his spot. The FA LDE Tyler Brayton has played ok but he’s no one you should fear. Maake Kemoeatu is still a very good run stopper and loves to excel on those 3rd and 1’s. The subs are DT Walker and DE Charles Johnson who excel at the pass rush. As I said earlier, run D has been great, the pass rush average at best but the pass coverage has been good.

Thanks for the insight

It looks to be much more difficult for our offense this week.

I want to know

how Peppers has done against rookie O-linemen. I’m excited to see how Albert or Taylor dance with Peppers.

by ilamuku on Sep 30, 2008 9:32 PM CDT reply actions

Peppers can explode on any given play

but he’s asked to do a lot of things. Peppers vs. Albert will certainly be a key match-up.

So who's going to play LT?

I blog the Carolina Panthers at www.catscratchreader.com

by Jaxon on Oct 2, 2008 11:10 AM CDT up reply actions

Herb Taylor

Most likely. 6th round draft pick. Looks like he can hold his own, at least.

by Joel Thorman on Oct 2, 2008 12:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Carolina Offense

The Chiefs held Denver to 1 passing TD and held them to under 100 yds rushing. Do you think Carolina will struggle offensively this week?

by ChiefsDude on Oct 1, 2008 10:22 AM CDT reply actions

If you can shut down the Panthers running game

you will put pressure on Jake. Musin Muhammad proved he is back last week (8 for 147 yds, TD) which means we finally have options other than Smith. TE Dante Rosario is a weapon too. The Chiefs will have to score at least 20-30 points to beat the Panthers.

My prediction: Panthers 31 Chiefs 16

A big THANK YOU to Jaxon

I like the cut of your jib...

And I was referring to the lawyer who claimed that wasn’t what was up.

by Official Arrowhead Pride Parade on Oct 2, 2008 12:05 PM CDT up reply actions

I figured that either...

A) It was true and they were making out or something
B) They were doing something worse, like drugs or something

Either way, the one chick was drunk which makes A or B possible. I never heard any clarification after the fact so we are still left guessing as to what really went on in that stall. I kinda like it that way.

Matt Moore

Would he develop into a good starting QB, for another team maybe?

by Eric Allen on Oct 2, 2008 4:12 PM CDT reply actions

Possibly

How’s that for a commitment? When he filled in last year and started the last three games he definitely look competent. Many Panther fans regard him as a possible replacement for Jake, but that remains to be seen. He fractured his leg during the preseason and is out a few more weeks with a possible return around week 6. Right now he’s under contract for another 3 seasons, including this one, so he would have to be traded if another team wanted him.

He looked a little shaky in the preseason but again he is young and a good chance of being around the league in some form. He needs more experience and time around the pro game to make any firm type of decision.

by LittleKing on Oct 2, 2008 7:29 PM CDT up reply actions

We just don't know a whole lot about the Panthers

I could see the Chiefs getting rocked.

Or keeping it close.

by AngryJesus on Oct 2, 2008 4:57 PM CDT reply actions

I see the Panthers

As the team we’re striving to be.

Solid on both sides of the line (when healthy). Competent QB.

by Joel Thorman on Oct 2, 2008 6:22 PM CDT up reply actions

That's a nice compliment

Jake is the key for the Panthers. He makes plays in the clutch and is a leader in the huddle. After the last play victory over the Chargers, the players on offense all talked about how Jake gave them confidence and was focused on executing. You can’t put a price on that.

I got a question for ya

I’ve been a big fan of jonathan stewart since his days at oregon and was wondering when will we see him starting for the panthers?

by fujirio on Oct 3, 2008 10:34 PM CDT reply actions

Not a Panthers expert

But considering they spent 2 first round picks on RBs in 3 years I would imagine they are following the trend of the rest of the NFL and going with a two back system for the time being.

by Joel Thorman on Oct 3, 2008 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Yup, they rotate

sucks for Fantasy but good if you wan to win. You’ll see more of Stewart in the 3rd & 4th quarter.
