Disappointment with the win?
Tony Gonzalez expresses disappointment with lack of record setting catch.
Dude...this is pretty serious.
I didn't think so until I watched that video.
I mean how much can you blame the coaches? They do bear much of it. A three yard flat route would have served the same purpose as a Larry Johnson smash. So why did they completely overlook that? And we knew Damon is capable of that pass...and he would've been a perfect representation of what Tony Gonzalez has been about.
Setting records with guys like Damon Huard.
So after watching the video and considering the matter, I found myself a little angry. And sad. And frustrated.
But the Chiefs have won a game and, well, that's very important. Kansas City, however, deserved to see that.
Herm's explanation will not be good enough.
And another note: Notice how Tony described the young players? They're giddy. They'll need a lot more focus to win on the road, however.

I Bet
you wouldn’t be so happy if that three yard pass ended up being a pick six and we blew the game. We needed this win more than seeing Tony break the record. I know your going to say that scenario is like a 1 in 100 chance. I’m not taking that chance, sorry. Tony G is going to Canton regardless.

Too Bad Tony
Wow,
I am really suprised. Too bad for Tony. You run the ball inside 2 minutes with the lead. Man if we would have lost this game because we tries to pass with only 2 minutes, everybody would want the coach fired. Anyway withHUard at the healm it was a good chance if he dumped it off to Tony it would be 2 yards behing the line of scrimmage anyways. He would just have 2 more yards to get next week.

Poor form
Say what you want about the final 2 minutes, but Tony had 4 quarters he could have had his # called. Poor form, just poor form on Edwards behalf
At what point did the Chiefs become such a classless football organization? Anyone?

Whoa...
I’m not going that far.
I’ve never seen Tony say something like that. But it’s all understandable.
And I agree that the win was more important. I bet Tony does too.
Just watch the video so we can fully appreciate what it means to him and his family.
And us fans.

WE PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!! The only stat that matters is the score.

Why start Thigpen
Over Huard, I know Huard is no hall of famer, but he DOES give us the best chance to win. Hindsight being 20/20, would we have won the Falcons game with Huard? That play to win the game is no argument there!

At the time
I think Herm really thought Thigpen gave the Chiefs the best chance to win… going against their good DE with our O-line we needed someone who could scramble and throw on the run.

I understand Tony wanted the record for the fans
but you just can’t throw the ball with the lead under 2 minutes, especially when EVERYONE KNOWS it’s coming to you.

I thought the same thing yesterday.
He SHOULD have broken that record at home, against Sharpe’s old team. It’s upsetting that he couldn’t have broken the record on a win.
Regardless of what the score was at 2:00 left in the game, there were 58 minutes prior to that, 33 of which the Chiefs had the ball, that Tony could have gotten his catches. Is it unfair? Absolutely. Was it more important to the team to win? You bet. The record will come, no doubt. But the game would have definitely been most rewarding having Tony break that record at home. Now? Just Ugh.
have you seen my baseball?

Maybe Tony should have dropped one less pass in his 11 years here
No offense to Tony, I understand he’s disappointed and I would be too. This is exactly like last year when Dwayne Bowe got 995 yards at the end of the season and everyone was talking about what a failure it was for the coaches. If he had dropped one less pass over the season then he would have gotten it.

I don't blame Tony
For expressing his genuine disappointment. He’s got a reporter with a mic and camera in his face and he was just being honest. I didn’t think he was complaining. During the end of the game, I too thought it’d be “nice” to make happen.
But after 12 losses you don’t start tempting fate. It’s not like we were facing a totally inept offense that had no chance to score if they got the ball. We had to run the ball. Run time off the clock and avoid the risk of an interception. Tony will get the record next week. Plus, if people felt the game was over, do you really want to set a record during garbage time? I realize a home crowd against Shannon’s old team would have been sweet… in a winning cause…

Exactly
I don’t blame Tony G at all for being disappointed that he isn’t going to break the record under ideal circumstances, but this team was hurting bad and there was nothing more important than getting that win. As bad as things have been going for us, if they had tried to force the ball to him to get the record and something catastrophic had happened, heads would have rolled.
