What a missed chance to honor Tony G

How bout that coaching by the chiefs, (lack of more like it). I believe that was the biggest put down to date from the uppers in arrowhead aimed for 88. The guy really had been the only stand out player since D.T. on this team and his number was (probably accidentally....NOT!)  forgotten with just one yard to break that loud mouth Shannon Sharpes' record against his (Sharpes') home team. I can't think of a bigger travesty. I am sickened.

Tony G would say

That getting the win is 100 times more important than his personal record. He’s got 12 more games this year to get 2 yards. I think it will happen.

Woudl have been a great game for it, but I agree with DJ, Tony would rather have the win.

Tony would definitely say those things.no doubt.

but it isn’t just about what Tony would say, what is it that Herm and co. were thinking?

From the time herm edwards showed up, he has made a point to try ( not fully successful because TG is too good for it to fully succeed) to keep TG in the shadows.

Get over it.

Everyones been down on Herm all season. Why are you waiting until after a win to start peeing on everyones parade?

Don't blame the coaches

We were up at that point. Why on earth would you throw the ball when you’re ahead with 2 minutes left when EVERYONE knows you want to get it to Gonzales. I think he’d be happy with the win over the record.

The players made plays today

That’s the difference between this game and the three losses.

Sure it woulda been great for Tony to break it in front of Shannon and his old team, but I think we all know he’ll be honored very soon, and in no way am I taking shots at the coaching this week! Enjoy this win, and especially enjoy the potential shown by our young chiefs

I haven’t “waited” till after a game or win.

I have said since the sucker was hired he was no good. one win in 12 games doesn’t make him any better.

put down those rose tinted glasses and if you don’t like my opinion, don’t read it.

I feel the same way.

We needed this win, but it gives alot of false hope.

Dude!

Every one, including Herm wanted Tony G to break the record today. Running the ball at the end was the RIGHT decision

I strive to be the person my dog thinks I am.

there is no conspiracy put in place by herm edwards to try and keep tony g from breaking records. it’s called conservative, posession-oriented, run when you’re leading in the 4th, common sense, low risk decision making and play calling. this isn’t the al saunders era any more. tony got his share today, and i’m sure he would be far more disappointed if he got the record and not the W. i know i would be.

let’s be patient with herm (for now at least)… i know i know… i think it’s foolish to start rebuilding in your 3rd year as head coach… it should have been done his first year, but what can you do? he didn’t want to step on toes in the front office until he knew that the players he had were inadequate, hoping that the pieces were still in place so that he could quick-fix the defense and still have our high flying offense working the way it did during the vermeil years…. but that didn’t happen because he tried playing conservatively which was not our personnel’s forte.

sure the youth movement has arrived 3 years past it’s cue, but i think we’re getting ahead of ourselves asking for the head of herm just yet.

on the other hand… if this season heads pretty far south, and bill cowher wants to return to the sidelines in ‘09 i’d have no problem with ditching herm in favor of The Chin.

He is the only coach

I would accept over Herm. It would be stupid to have a coaching change in the middle of rebuilding. Herm in my opinion should be given next year no matter what happens. Teams that are successful in this league have consistency in identity and personnel. Regardless of what you guys say Herm has an eye for talent. He knows exactly what we need and he knows exactly what he wants to do. Give him one more offseason to bring in another draft class because so far so good in that department. (minus Medlock)

hmm...

i did just see tony making comments about not getting the record during the broncos game, saying he was really disappointed. i didn’t think he had that in him… hmm… oh well, i’ll let it slide i suppose…

by ManDude on Sep 29, 2008 11:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, because that was definitely more important

than winning the game. Not throwing the ball to TG was in NO WAY disrepectful or was it in NO WAY bad coaching. It was completely the opposite, it was an excellent coaching decision by Gailey. In that situation, it would have been FOOLISH to throw the ball and risk an interception when you are trying to put the game away by running the clock down and possibly scoring. I would have been pissed if they passed the ball in that situation.

I can’t speak for TG, but I would doubt he was miffed in any way. To finally get a win after almost an entire year of losing has to be the biggest relief for all of the players. It’s not like he won’t get the record sometime this year…..like the next freakin’ game. Let’s keep our focus on what’s important.

-You play to win the game - Herm Edwards
