my QB pick for 2009 draft!

i know there has been alot of talk about QB in the draft next year and while i agree that next years draft will not e a strong QB class, i think that there is one qb in the game that is kinda of overlooked.  no its not tim tebow, sam bradford, or chase daniels.  my QB pick is mark sanchez (6ft. 3in.  225lbs) out of USC. i know some of you might not agree but here is a couple of reason why i think he should be considered.

Star-divide

1) he can make every pass on the field with accuracy. (69% this season so far)

2) he fits kansas city's mold of a mobile QB, and can throw on the run.

3) he is tough and does not like to miss time if he can help it.  (he is plaing with that dislocated kneecap)

these are just a few reasons i can think of right off hand and like i said before i think he might be overlooked a little bit.  USC has a couple QB's playing in the NFL right now in matt cassel and carson palmer.  then there is matt lienart who i think was overrated anyway. but my point is that USC has a knack for making pro football QB's.

maybe its just my imagination running wild since i havent slept in over 24 hours but i want to know what you guys think.

Im going with

Stafford. He’s looked good every time I have seen him play.

Harallel

Is who I’m going with. That is, if we can’t get Bradford

by KansasCityShuffle on Sep 25, 2008 11:34 PM CDT reply actions

Chase Daniels

he’s just a winner…plain and simple.

by KCWolfff on Sep 25, 2008 11:44 PM CDT reply actions

Chase Daniel

would have been great for Al Saunders’ offense… but not Chan Gailey’s.

by Vince D on Sep 26, 2008 12:50 AM CDT up reply actions

Sanchez or Daniels

Would be good in Al Saunders offense… Bradford is not good. He is a Stoops product and Stoops has yet to have one of his QBs make it in the NFL. His system is great for college, but it is a death sentence for QB careers after college it seems.
Sanchez looked good tonight despite the interception. USCs D just gave it up. All of Sanchez’s drives tonight came in under 3 minutes for each drive… Quick trigger.
I like Daniels though. Tough guy and seems to be intelligent. I think he would learn any system. A little full of himself though. I think he could take a pretty good hit. Cotton Bowl last year, saw him run over an Arkansas LB, and then got in his face afterwards… A lot of grit… Hopefully he is more like Tom Brady than Ryan Leaf when he comes into the NFL as he reminds me a little of both…
Juries out on Tebow for me…

Naaaah...

Can I get back to you in January?

Lets see how the college season plays out. I don’t forsee any of these QB’s being considered to be a franchise player, but you never know. Also, we will most likely be picking in the top 3 next year. So to even use a QB with our first two picks is too risky considering that we need help EVERYWHERE……Especially at LB… There should be a couple of quality Free Agent QB’s who could be of interest to us next year….

by aPacificChief on Sep 26, 2008 2:47 AM CDT reply actions

Agreed...And Offensive Line

That’s an even more pressing concern if we draft a guy to play QB. Whoever we put back there isn’t going to help us a lot if our line gets him beat down like they have with our QBs the last two years.

I don’t see Daniel as being a good enough bet as a franchise guy to take in the first round, but I do see him as a viable mid to late round pick and think he’s probably worth a risk on drafting there. But we’ve got too many infrastructure problems everywhere else to draft a QB first unless we’re 100% certain that guy is the answer to this team’s problems. And note that it’s not necessarily a good idea then…since Ryan Leaf was a disastrous selection and he was being touted by many as a QB prospect on par with Peyton Manning (even though he wasn’t even close if you looked at their performance in college).

Am I the only one

that thinks maybe a guy that throws game killing interceptions to OREGON STATE may not be the best QB ever?

Beware Pac-10 QBs. They’re either VERY good or massively underwhelming.

Bones. It's not just a noun it's a verb. Not just a nickname, a movement.

Very True

by UCrawford on Sep 26, 2008 8:46 AM CDT up reply actions

No to Daniel and Sanchez...

My QB pick would be Nate Davis. This guy has great pocket presence and tremendous upside. He is pretty mobile and if you guys saw the Ball State drubbing of Indiana, there was one play where he threw one pass off-balance on the run for a 40-45 yards touchdown.
But on second thoughts I wouldn’t want Chiefs to draft a QB and spoil that young man’s future. I don’t think our coaches have the ability to smoothen out clinks in a raw prospect and I don’t think any QB coming out in the upcoming draft is completely NFL ready.
Person who is named as curl dick can only look good as a coach in comedy movies; developing QB for an NFL franchise in reality is a whole different deal altogether.

I really think....

that if we have a top 3 pick we should look at Michael Oher, Seriously think about it, Albert wasa guard all through college, I know he is playing pretty good at Lt but i believe he will be an all pro guard at this level. Think about it having Oher at LT and ALbert at LG and letting these two first round picks grow and develop together and than moving Waters to RG and having anyone not named MAcintosh play RT. If we draft Oher i still think we would have a shot at a Qb such as BRadford or Daniel in the second round and our line would be even better. But lets say we could trade LJ for a second round pick or third imagine what we could do with them to fix our line and get a QB of the future and maybe even MLB just in the first three rounds. I know i am just imagining but still I really think That we could get a good Qb in the second round and could use the first pick on something else including MLB.

If Albert Plays Well At Left Tackle This Year

I think it’s kind of ridiculous to shift him to start another rookie left tackle, particularly since quality right tackles are tougher to find than the average guard. I’m fine with drafting Oher, but if we do I think we should put him at right tackle unless he’s clearly better and more ready to play that position than Albert…regardless of how high he’s drafted.

by UCrawford on Sep 27, 2008 12:33 AM CDT up reply actions

I disagree

I would not be happy with a Michael Oher selection. Don’t get me wrong, I think the guy is an unreal talent and probably/possibly (since he is so raw) an upgrade over Albert. However, we are in this thing for the long haul and we have way, way too many positions to fill in order to justify upgrading a position in which we spent a 1st rounder on last year.

And moving Albert to RT doesn’t seem like the best move. We can pick up a solid RT early in the second and keep our top 3 pick.

And

If we are keeping out top 3 pick I want Michael Johnson. MAWK IT DOWN!

Pass rush is worth a top 5 pick

Watching DT and Neil Smith bring the pressure last night was awesome! The Giants did not “invent” the idea of pressuring the QB! WE DID!

I'm Fine With Defensive End Too

So long as we address the offensive line as well.

I’d just rather someone else was making the decisions, though :)

Oher is absolutley been a man beast this year

heads and tales above Jake Long or anyone else the last few years. I think Albert is better athletically to adjust to another position and quite possibly could be the next Will Shields. WIth Oher, Albert, Waters and Niswanger contniuing to develop positively, we are one player away from a very dominant long term line, the way the Chiefs are use to having. Quite possibly it could be Taylor. Like Dorsey last year, if he is there when we pick, we have to take him.

I think I am going to resign myself to settling in that this rebuilding could take a few (three) years before we see post season.

by Lanier63 on Sep 27, 2008 9:06 AM CDT up reply actions

The only problem

Is that St. Louis could pick ahead of us and I know they need help along the left side with Orlando Pace’s career winding down.

The more I think about it the more I realize we probably won’t be picking #1 overall. St. Louis has much bigger problems within the organization than we do. Rumor is they’re looking to move Torry Holt…

by Joel Thorman on Sep 27, 2008 9:26 AM CDT up reply actions

Torry Holt

Good luck with that…maybe San Fran is interested in acquiring another old St. Louis receiver :)

Although that would make me happy because I’ve got J.T. O’Sullivan in one league :)

by UCrawford on Sep 27, 2008 11:01 AM CDT up reply actions

Why not move Holt?

The man’s a machine. His stats have been digressing slightly over the past 3 years but he would be an attractive option for a contender (Insert obligatory Cowboys mention when talking about a player on the open market) particularly with the evolution of the passing game.

by Joel Thorman on Sep 27, 2008 11:08 AM CDT up reply actions

Because He's Old

And he’s had knee problems. I think you hit the nail on the head earlier when you said Williams should be the Cowboys main target for receiving. I don’t even want to think about how lethal that offense would be with him there.

Personally I hope the Chiefs get him, but for selfish fantasy purposes I’d absolutely love to see the guy go to Dallas in a mid-season trade because I’ve got him on my team and right now he’s nearly worthless :)

Ray Maualuga

i think we should draft this guy with our first pick he is a true leader and could do wonders if not right away in a 1 year. I really like sam bradford in the 2010 draft he has already shown a huge improvement in his footwork and hitting the reciver in stride not to mention he is highly accurateover 70% back to back years. he will be a great qb mark my words plus he can take a hit something he will have to get used to if drafted by us just my thoughts though what do you guys think?

by ThRoAt HaMMeR on Sep 27, 2008 4:13 AM CDT reply actions

Unless

there is a change up top, we shouldn’t draft a QB with a high pick. We have shown no ability scout or develop that position under Carl. I would hate to ruin a QB.

I feel for any QB that Herm gets hold of.
