Arrowhead Pride has seen the light...
I don't know if it is the wisdom we gained by being a week older, or that coupled with another loss to another bad team, but almost everyone here seems much calmer after the loss to the Falcons than we were last Monday after losing to the Raiders. Maybe we were a little deluded after playing the Patriots so closely in Week One. Now reality has set in, and for the most part, we all appear to have accepted the fact that the Chiefs are a rather poor football team at this time. (Certainly, the volume of flaming has diminished greatly when comparing today to last week). So, fellow AP posters, let's keep the discussions respectful and productive, and let's all get ready for the Donkeys!
Chiefs 24 - Donkeys 21

My Prediction
Broncos 38, Chiefs 21.
I think we have our best game of the season against a porous Broncos run defense, but I think Cutler absolutely lights up our secondary. This is the first real QB we’ll be facing this year (Brady doesn’t really count because he got injured so early).

to be honest, I don't think Cutler will do that much
I can see Denver putting up 250 yards on the ground pretty easily

Broncos 42, Chiefs 6
And that will be after Novak goes 2 for 4 field goals. I just cannot see Tyler doing any better than last week and I think Shanahan will have our number, again.

As much as I hate the donkeys
I picked up their defense to play KC in one of my fantasy leagues this week.

Don't Feel Too Bad
If I’d had a bookie, I’d have emptied my bank account to bet against the Chiefs last week because I was convinced Turner would tear us up. And going against the Chiefs is probably not a bad bet in any other week of the season this year either, sadly.

Tyler will do better.
He improved over the course of the game. Take away the first few minutes of the game and he was 13 for 26 with a TD and INT. Hopefully that carries over to this week.
They need to playcall like we’re down by 10 from the opening kickoff.
I’m worried about our D. They should be performing better than they are now. I think we see Harris at MLB after he practices himself into better game shape this week.
Chiefs 24 Broncos 21 (in OT)
by NJChiefsFan on Sep 22, 2008 1:34 PM CDT 0 recs
I agree
I agree, Tyler will do better, he’s improved, and improving, late in the second 1/4 and all of 2nd half he got comfortable and made plays.. If he starts next week i think that score you got will be dead set minus the OT though.
also play calling is a factor as well, I think Chan has been calling some dumb plays, we need to take some deep shots. spread the D out, so LJ can run.

Chiefs 13, Bronco's 35
Tyler throws at least 2 int’s and that’s him staying away from Chump Bailey. Denver’s always been a good running team and that doesn’t bode well for us given our most recent showing
Oh and I take the following week off because given that I work w/ so many (MF’n) donkey fans – if I show up – someone’s going to get fired !! (okay I’m kidding w/ that last bit except if it’s that little Geologist Pri*k on 18th flr. :)
C’mon boys – little help this week PLEASE !!!
Go Chiefs !!

It wil be interesting to see how their secondary plays us
…since they got him from WASH, the Donkeys have often used Bailey on Tony Gonzalez, leaving Bly on our #1 WR (now Bowe) and a safety/nickel back on our #2, depending on the package and formation.

Cutler will torch us
Our strong point is our secondary but I’m very, very worried about the Broncos.

That’s right. Broncos will only get one point.
by Vince D on Sep 22, 2008 2:18 PM CDT 0 recs
Because
their kicker will have to kick one of our extra points after Novak’s leg falls off when he tries to actually kick the ball into the endzone on a kickoff?

Chiefs 0 Ditka a million
As for the Broncos they’ll score early and often, but I have a feeling as our confidence grows we might score too, I mean two we might get a safety.
Blame my wife!

Okay, so a few things are now clear
1) I shouldn’t have put in my prediction for the score, as no one is really talking about the main thrust of the post =)
2) Why in the hell do people think Thigpen is going to get the nod again? I mean, I’m all for developing younger guys, but the void at QB could hamper the development of OTHER offensive players. Huard is by no means the answer, but I think we might see him against Denver…thoughts?
by PVChiefsfan on Sep 22, 2008 2:32 PM CDT 0 recs
try this
if you’ve already concluded that Croyle is a bust, and your line really can’t protect anyone, especially if you’re playing from behind, you play Thigpen to keep a fatality from occuring during the game. This will cement a good draft position, and possibly a good QB prospect (-this is me talking now—Yeah, a good QB, but only if the decision maker has nothing to do with the current Chiefs)

I think Thigpen starts
because he improved over the course of the game, and if Brodie’s coming back, this might be the last look we get at Bones.
Keep him on a leash, but play him. There was a point where we were only down by 10 early in the 2nd half.
We missed a FG and got stopped at the goalline. The D disappeared.

Thigpen Will Get The Nod
If you look at the Chiefs website at the postgame comments Herm already started spinning how he thinks Thigpen was effective in the 2 minute offense, so I have little doubt Thigpen’s the starter until Croyle returns. Plus, I honestly believe that Herm Edwards hates Damon Huard as a player…to the point where he’d start Ingle Martin or really terrible Division II scrub Richard Bartel before even considering giving Huard another start.

My Prediction
If Herm tries to run the 2 minute offense against Denver, Thigpen makes a run at doubling his career high in interceptions. The Falcons defensive backs weren’t remotely comparable to Bailey and Bly.

Just to be fair
the only times when Thigpen was succesful was in the 2 minute offense. Crawford, you can still shit on everyone, but don’t shit on them in the few ways in which they don’t deserve it.

Main thrust of the post
Last week was just kind of a shocker, particularly because we played the Pats close. Kinda in the same thought process of us backing into the playoffs in 2006 making us think we would be at least decent in 2007.

A real test of our young secondary
Well, so far that has been our only bright spot this year. Right now we’re 4th against the pass, with 2 rookie corners, and two 3rd year guys. Granted teams haven’t passed much against us because the running against us has been so successful. But, Cutler is our first test with a high-caliber QB, and he will probably destroy us.
I say Chiefs 13, Broncos 38.
by bamakcfan on Sep 22, 2008 2:34 PM CDT 0 recs
I agree - Thigpen starts
The Bronco’s would KILL Damon. It’d be like hitting a practice dummy. He just won’t be able to avoid the rush. At least Thigpen has the ‘getaway sticks’ to avoid being killed..
by Cat Stabber on Sep 22, 2008 2:52 PM CDT 0 recs
My Picks
Round 1: Rey Maualuga, MLB (I agree with the position as #1 for us, but we’ll see who the best prospect is after the season)
Round 2: Trade (I like Vince D’s idea and think it well worth it)
Round 3: R Tackle ( we can’t move the ball or protect anything without a solid line)
Round 4: Guard, either to start at RG or be a project for a future LG (agree)
Round 5: Linebacker to develop in case Williams/Johnson doesn’t work out (agree)
Round 6: Offensive line, for depth
Round 7: D Line, for depth
I’d also like to see some active early free agent signings of some second and third year players like DE, CB and depth positions. I like the direction we went this year, but I just couldn’t handle another year of completely unskilled faces and the excuses of rookie mistakes. I’d like to see some solid young guys (2nd & 3rd year) replace the weaker players we have whatever their experience level.
Finally, COACHES! We really need some top coaches for skill positions and groups.

A quick look into your favorite AP Commenter's predictions.
DJ: I think we’ll go out and surprise some people. Herm will have this team ready to play. Will we win? I don’t know, I’m not going to say. Will we be competitive? I don’t know, I’m not going to say. Will we ever resemble anything that ever remotely is similar to an actual football team? I don’t know. I’m not going to say. It’s pointless anyway. Because if I say so, you’ll just blame Herm anyway. And I’m done with it. Like, for example, the other day, I was at Wendy’s, and I asked for a Big Mac. And they said “Sir, this isn’t McDonalds. It’s Wendy’s. We don’t have a Big Mac.” I just don’t get it. Don’t you people have patience? Oh, sure, they say they’ll have patience and give me a Big Mac. But when I actually order one? No, they just want to give me a frosty. So go on and blame Herm Edwards, but I can tell you this. Eventually, that Big Mac is coming. And if it weren’t for Dick Vermeil, I’d already have two Big Macs. And if we don’t run the ball 700 times a game? That Big Mac isn’t going to cook itself. Have you ever noticed that Herm’s biceps are dreamy? I mean, I’m not saying. I’m just saying. A little bit.
UCrawford: You know who’s going to win on Sunday? Carl Peterson. Carl Peterson and his fiendish plot to destroy us all. Did you know that Carl Peterson is behind the plummett of the stock market? Did you know he’s behind the Pentaverate which includes the Queen, the Rothchilds, and Colonel Sanders before he went tits up? We’re going to lose 1070 million to one. The only way we might be able to score two points is if we put in Damon Huard. Did you know that Damon heals the sick? Because he does. I mean, not completely. They still die. But just before they die? Their temperature lowers a degree. It’s amazing, really. He’s such a good guy. Have you seen those highlights? I mean, he’s a 35 year old guy with bleached blonde hair! He’s like Art Alexakis only with a weaker arm. And by “weaker arm” I mean “amazing eyes.” Also, we suck. Even if we win this game and Tyler throws three touchdowns and goes for 300 yards, all that means is that Carl Peterson is trying to get our hopes up before he ruins it. Did you know that Carl Peterson sucks? Oh,and if you were confused, let me take seventeen million blockquotes of your above statement and throw them back in your face. EAT IT.
primetime: Abandon all hope, ye who comment here. You suck, you suck, you’re wrong, you suck, you’re cool, you suck. /spellcheck
Eric Allen: Do you NOT understand? We are going to LOSE! We will SCORE FEWER points than the OTHER team? Herm Edwards is the worst running back/quarterback/wide receiver/sushi chef/animation artist/kung fu master I have ever seen! God! What do we have to do! I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!
Ridiculous Matt: Unproductive sarcasm + witty banter + pop culture reference= COMMENTING BRILLIANCE! Quick! Twist your opponent’s words into nonsense without convincing anyone! Hurry! /goes off to write the three NBA blogs he manages for a sport no one cares about
CatStabber: That guy sucks. That guy sucks. That guy sucks. That guy’s okay. Ooh, good idea, that guy. That guy sucks. +1.
HIV2Elway: Come on guys, can’t we stop with all these fervent overreaction and calls for unnecessarily harsh punishment for our players who fail us and our enemies?
PVChiefsFan: *Remains optimistic as hurls self off roof
Lanier63: You damn kids get off of my lawn!
Chris: Fuck you people, I’m going to India.
