Tamba Hali Now Questionable For Sunday
From the FanPosts. -Chris
Tamba Hali was an unexpected addition to the Kansas City Chiefs' injury report this week, listed as questionable with a sore knee, leaving the Chiefs with only two healthy defensive ends, Alfonso Boone and 2008 7th round pick Brian Johnston.
The Chiefs carry only four defensive ends. Alfonso Boone and rookie Brian Johnston, a seventh-round draft pick, are the others. Boone was a starting tackle last season and played in McBride's spot after he left the Raiders game last week.
Johnston played a handful of defensive snaps in the first two games.
The Chiefs also have linebacker Demorrio Williams, who has played some as an end but only in passing situations.
If Hali is out for this one, looks like we'll get a look at Johnston to see how accurate those early comparisons to Jared Allen that some AP commenters made were.
Although going up against Michael Turner in your first big game is not a situation any rookie should want to find himself in.

Honestly
I CANNOT figure out why people say Herm has bad luck with injuries.
There is no Dana only HERM.

LOL
That was pretty good.
Jared’s mini-me? A 4th rounder whose second contract warranted $70+ million? I’ll keep dreaming.

Johnston will have a breakout game sunday.
If Baker doesn’t play for ATL, then he will have 2 sacks and a forced fumble. I am now excited to watch this game, just for this reason.

We Got Jared Allen
That’s hardly a drought. It’s not really a curse that we couldn’t keep him…just Carl Peterson being Carl Peterson.

He Qualifies
He’s not Reggie White, but he averaged over 10 sacks a year in his first 4 seasons, just slightly under the pace of Bruce Smith during his first 4 years in the league. Smith had one more sack than Allen during that time period…and Allen’s just entering his prime so he could very well improve like Smith did.

Actually I Should Rephrase That
He qualifies for now…for all we know he could get injured and his career could end tomorrow, in which case he would have been promising, but not great. But assuming he avoids injury or off-field problems and follows a steady career progression he could very easily end up being a great player.

Yeah
because avoiding off-the-field problems is his bag, baby.
Not to mention the fact that he’s been largely neutralized the first two weeks in Minnesota.
Just sayin’.

does not a ProBowler make. Let’s wait to see what drunkey turns into before we start sucking his bottle.

Nor Does One Sackless Game
Mean somebody is a bust. We will see. Or not. To be honest I don’t really care that much what Allen does. Dude’s not with the Chiefs anymore and he’s not in our division so he pretty much like any other player as far as I’m concerned.

Carl being Carl
I’ll take the picks over a huge risk to a player that is going to take up a substantial portion of our cap room. I thought he did a good job (although the situation came to that because of his own stubbornness).

Maybe it's just
Herm’s “injury curse”. It affects his QBs most of all, but seems to affect the rest of his players too.
Or, it’s just bad luck – like the Seahawks with receivers this year. (Speaking of which, has anything like the rash of injuries at one position that the ’Hawks have had this year EVER happened before?)

Yes
The St. Louis Rams’ entire offensive line last year. I think they lost five or six guys to injury, most of them for the season.

They Lost Two For The Year In Preseason
And they have a head coach who’s as bad as ours. And their front office is a disaster.
Steven Jackson was very, very smart to hold out until they paid him big. He knew that he was going to get nickel and dimed forever there.

Pretty much anything that
could happen at this point will not surprise me. I don’t think it will affect the outcome of the game whether Tamba plays or not, because we have absolutely no offense. Turk’s injury is something which will probably keep him out of the game on Sunday. Anytime the spleen is injured, it is a big deal. A ruptured spleen could cause a player to bleed out before anything could be done to save him. I think they will be very cautious about his return.

It happens to every team
Last year’s Bills had somewhere up to 11 players on IR for much of the season. Most of ours are dings and bruises. I wouldn’t classify that as bad luck. As far as Brodie goes, any QB with that hit would be out just as long. Our problem with Herm is his lack of retooling the Right side of the O-Line and the right side open gates to the QB.
Overall, if we have to go through the pain of getting these young guys experience so that they are much better later in the season and most importantly next year, then let’s just do it. Let them work and learn. We will go through the pain sooner or later, so it may as well be all at once! Maybe we will be pleasently surprised. I think we can beat Atlanta, even with the obstacles we face. I’m going to root for our boys all the way!

didn't Brodie get hit from blitz coming from the Left side of the O-line?
Brodie got hurt because he did not recognize the blitz coming, and throw to the hot receiver. Plus it was Jamaal Charles who took the wrong blitz pick up.
What got Brodie hurt was that there is too much experimenting going on. We should be playing players who are mentally prepared to play the game, not depend on youthful energy to win our games.
by aPacificChief on Sep 20, 2008 3:07 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think that's entirely correct
Form the articles at the time, Brodie recognized the blitz and pointed it out to Charles, who then took the wrong blitzer. Yes, it was a mistake from a blown assignment and most likely inexperience. How many blown assignments can you point to from experienced and lack of energy from experienced (older) players on every team, every Sunday? Hopefully the mistake doesn’t result in injury, but each circumstance of a missed assignment has that potential. It happens in every game, and jot just ours. Our guys aren’t perfect and and I know they all just try their best. It just happened to result in the injury this time.
Now, I do agree with you that the line and team must be put together mentally prepared and with the best players in each position to give the team the opportunity to win. I have to disagree that “What got Brodie hurt was that there is too much experimenting going on.” It isn’t working new players in and putting responsibility on them, it is just the specific hit, or the specific events of the moment. Had Brodie been turned slightly differently, it would have just been another sack. Had Tamba not fallen on the RBs feet during his tackle, he wouldn’t have bruised his spleen. So on and so forth.
I wish that we had the luxury of a solid line to limit the hits on our QBs. I do hope that the mobility of Tyler will keep him upright, but I think someone, experienced or not, will blow their assignment and we will all hold our breaths while he is running for his life, hoping that he survives.
by TXChiefan on Sep 20, 2008 5:56 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The hit that Brodie took did take him from an awkward angle, and injuries occure agreed..although
Charles has been playing football for many years. Its not like he’s new to the game, why did he pick up the outside blitzer and not the inside? I know only Charles can answer that, but if Brodie did reconize the blitz why did not throw to the side of where the blitz was coming from? there was no defenders in the flats, if I remember right he was looking right then saw the LB and DB coming from the left, and had no time to brace himself leading to that separated shoulder.
If Charles picks up the inside guy and Brodie throws to the hot reciever, the hit would of never took place. The hit that Trent Green took that lead to the concussion is something that you cannot prepare for, but the hit that Croyle sustained leading to his separated shoulder could have been avoided.

Injuries happens to every team, yes....but
to have an injury occur because of a blown assignment is inexcusable.
