Kansas City Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards doesn't want to win this weekend.

There's no other explanation for the news coming out of KC, where Edwards is starting incredibly unproven QB Tyler Thigpen over the injured but now apparently healthy Damon Huard, who you will recognize as the not-quite-dead guy from this film clip. He's also decided that "star" running back Larry Johnson won't be getting carries in goal line situations, despite that pretty much being his calling card at this point. Coach Edwards has also required that all his players spin around really fast before each series and curl up in a ball any time Adam Jennings returns punts.

When did Herm Suggest That...

LJ wouldn’t be getting goal-line carries? That’s news to me (especially considering I just traded for LJ in my fantasy league). I mean, does Herm really think we should use our speedback Charles there or is he thinking about the patient Kolby style? LJ is a banger and especially if he’s within a few yards of the end zone, he’ll run some MoFo’s over just so he can wave that flag again.

Read the KC star

article here where it says they’re replaceing Johnson with Charles in goal-line situations

have you seen my baseball?

I Just Threw Up In My Mouth

So we’re in the second year of a giant six year contract that the team gave to Larry Johnson because he was an outstanding power back, and now we’re removing him from the situations where we actually need a power back? To give playing time to Jamaal Charles, who can’t move the pile? That’s absolutely insane.

No wonder Larry Johnson was bitching…he was right.

This is what I'm saying

Why do they keep making these decisions that leave everyone dumbfounded?

The Article

Does say that they’ve been replacing Johnson in goalline situations, but they’re referring to what we’ve seen the last two weeks, not attributing something Herm or Chan or LJ said. They replaced him in those situations the last few weeks because they were in a passing mode and in that, they utilize Charles in the package instead of LJ. LJ will still get the goalline carries. For all of Herm and Chan’s faults so far, both know who the power guy is and that he can get that ball in the end zone. I expect a at least one score from him this week against a mediocre run D in ATL.

Remember that this is Adam Teicher writing this

The guy who constantly makes crap up and presents it as though he has an inside source. Like when Paul Hackett was going to be our new offensive coordinator, or when the reason they brought DeMorrio Williams in was to move Donnie Edwards to middle linebacker.

The Chiefs are replacing Johnson with rookie Jamaal Charles or Kolby Smith in obvious passing situations and when they are near the opponent’s goal line. Johnson was in for only one of four plays from the New England 5 in the final minute two weeks ago.

Those are Teichers words, not Herms. He’s talking about the goal line situation at the end of the New England games where they were having to pass rather than run to conserve time on the clock. We ALL know LJ is a piss poor pass blocker. We also know that the one running play they DID do from the 5 yard line was LJ, not Charles.

I just

traded for LJ in my Fantasy league too. Let go of Stephen Jackson and Santana Moss.. Haha! I’m sort of a Homer.

Wow.

I’m speechless. Like, Ok. I can be pissed because Larry happens to be my favorite player, but as a Chiefs fan, that has to be the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard in my life! I mean, Larry is the reason we had so many touchdowns! (besides Tony) HE gives us the best chance to win in the red-zone! This is retarded. And just when I was gonna say, “Ok Herm, I’ll give you another chance.”

Wow.

Goodbye LJ. I loved having you as a Chief. See you in Tampa Bay or something.

He's Not Going Anywhere

That contract makes him virtually untradeable.

I realize that...

But if he wants out and they are satisfied with Kolby and Jamaal, then they MAY want to let him go.

This is just REALLY upsetting.

They Can't

Unless they really want to screw up their cap space. They’re only in the second year of a six-year deal that gives him $19 million in guarantees.

Then again, we are ridiculously far below the cap, so maybe they don’t care. I’m not exactly sure what our cap space is right now.

The KC Star reports it to be

about 18.3 million under the cap.

I dont know what it is either

But I know we got a lot more than most teams. I understand what you’re saying, But who knows what the hell is going through the minds of Herm, Carl, and the suits in the front office.

I Won't Even Pretend To

That comment about why he keeps Damion McIntosh as a starter still blew my mind, and hammered home the point to me about just how far out in the ether Herm Edwards really is.

I think...

Herm mentioned that the line needs to play together for a little while longer in order to gel together and blah blah blah. He makes excuses for bad players and I dont get it. THATS where he is supposed to be a coach… But… Oh… I forgot…. He doesnt know how to do that.

by R2J_24 on Sep 19, 2008 12:18 AM CDT up reply actions

It's becoming increasingly more evident

Herm is not interested in winning ball games. Period.

Talk about serious job security…

I thought losing was part of the rebuilding plan?

Hey they had so much fun high five’n everyone at the War Room last April, they figure lets do again in ‘09. But this time we’ll BBQ and have a few beers while we’re at it. Can’t do that if we are not selecting in the top five, now can we?
