Edwards prefers line continuity over benching bad performers
According to Teicher at the Star [Ed. note: Remember to link the stories you quote! Thanks! -Chris], Herm want to go young and play the the 2008 regular season preseason with a view to the future. That is unless you play offensive line, then the goal is totally different.
Herb Taylor played well enough at left tackle in the preseason in Branden Albert’s absence that coach Herm Edwards suggested Taylor would play some once the regular season started.
Taylor hasn’t played except on special teams. With right tackle Damion McIntosh having his problems, using Taylor in his spot might be one step toward better offensive-line play.
But Edwards said continuity on the line is more important.
“In the past, the thing we’ve struggled with is those guys (not) playing together,” Edwards said. “Now they’re all healthy, for the most part. We’re going to (let them) play together for a little while.
“But I’m not going to say no to anything.”
This kind of double standard with players and positions drives me crazy! If the plan is to play youth and get them experience this year fine. If it is to play the best players at a position and try to build a winning enviroment and bring the young players along as they show signs of improvement fine.
But DO NOT try to sell me on giving an untest QB the chance to start "so we know what he can do" and then sit two younger possibly better linemen so that we "have a better chance to win."
Pick a direction and stick to it this year!

I'm sorry........ WHAT!
Herm I was one of your biggest supporters in this rebuilding project, but that statement is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. YOU put the best players on the field who give you the best chance in winning, didn’t you also say that Herm? Now continuity is more important than talent?
I thought your plan was to develop the young talent for the future? I’m starting to think that Herm is doing his impersonation of DR. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This kind of mad psycho who pretends to have a logical plan of action and methodically implements them. Then he sits in his office and with a sinister grin morphs into Mr. Hyde diabolically thinking of ways to torment the club and its fans.

o -line
Sack sacintosh now. I think Herm is afraid the statue we call Damon Huard will not make it to half time behind the swinging gate we call the right side of our line. I think taylor would be an upgrade over sackintosh, but so would I ( 5’ 9" 177 lbs 47 years old).
I’ll ask again why with a youth movement richardson is’nt even active so he can get some experience. Thigpen is probably the only quarterback we have that is mobile enough to survive the full game and that is iffy! Also with all the three and outs from no run game or passing game the defense will probably give up 300 yards rushing in the second half. Wait a minute they already have done that against a team that CA’NT FREAKIN throw the ball.

You Beat Me To It
I was just about to write a scathing post. Good work
What in the hell is he thinking. Damion McIntosh was horrible last year and he’s horrible this year. WHO THE HELL CARES IF YOU HAVE CONTINUITY WHEN YOUR LINEMEN AREN’T GOOD!?!

As For Picking A Direction
But DO NOT try to sell me on giving an untest QB the chance to start “so we know what he can do” and then sit two younger possibly better linemen so that we “have a better chance to win.”
This is just the way he is…he’s not even really committing to Thigpen to play. All he knows is that he’d rather run out a guy who’s looked like a career 3rd stringer than start Damon Huard for any reason, but he’s going to pull people in and out of the lineup and screw up the rest of the offense just to try and prove that he’s right not to start Huard…not because he believes any of these guys are any good. But he’s happy to start scrub veterans at positions where he thinks anyone won’t notice if it’ll take criticism off of him.
I’m telling you, this youth movement is doomed with Herm coaching these guys. We’ve got talent to build around, but we need a new head coach if that talent is ever going to develop.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

And it is only the 3rd game
The starting lineup for the o-line has only been all together for 2 games. How much could it possibly mess them up this early in the season to switch out one of the players. And at the tackle possition no less, the only player that would have to adjust would be the RG at this point.

Exactly!
Seriously, would it really mess up the line that much to replace the RT only? Is Branden Albert on the left side all of a sudden not gonna be able to block if someone different is on the right side? It seriously makes no sense to me. These guys are professional athletes… if they can’t adjust to a new person on the line then they don’t deserve to be in the NFL.

they don’t deserve to be in the NFL.
I think you just described half the starters on this team.
have you seen my baseball?

I NEVER want players hurt but..
I almost am hoping that Sackintosh will have to leave the game early because his knee starts to bother him. That way we might see Herb in there and find out if he would be an improvement at the RT spot.
