News items of note: CB Pat Surtain is out of this Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. It’s the same for QB Brodie Croyle. Nobody else has been ruled out. A starting quarterback will be named tomorrow between Damon Huard and Tyler Thigpen. Whoever the starter is, will play the whole game as long as he’s healthy, the Chiefs will not try to mix in a quarterback for a series here or there. And, the head coach plans no personnel changes on his offensive line this week.

Ah, Bob Gretz
Never too proud to lick the shit from his master’s shoes once the master has stepped in it. :)

Thigpen will start even though......
Our best chance to win is w/ Huard. But since we can’t protect him – it’s likely he wouldn’t finish out the game. For that reason – (My guess is) Thigpen gets the the majority of reps this week and the start against Atl.. We need blocking help so lets activate Cottam and go w/ the 2 TE set.
What the heck do I know – I thought we’d beat Oakland……

Disagree
Or, more accurately, I have a different guess. I think Huard will be the guy. Thigpen was an absolute disaster anyway you slice it.

albeit to late !!!

And if all other things are equal
Huard can do that much more effectively than Thigpen.
This blows…arguing over a journeyman and a guy who, at best, should be a 3rd QB who never sees the field.

What's wrong with Marques Hagans?
Let’s throw someone in the backfield who at least stands a chance to get away from the opposing d-line.
This would at least keep the defenses honest, cause they’d never know what to expect, what with his lazer-rocket arm and pin point accuracy. Let the big dog eat already.

Whoever starts
Needs to keep the offence on the field long enough for our defence to catch its breath. Watching us get run over in the second half was seriously painful…..

I wrote this huge commment going off
on an AOL commenter at FanHouse until my editor was like “Um….Matt … ? I hate to tell you this, but he’s Canadian.” To which I responded with “is there some sort of brain-eating virus in Canada?!” And then he explained.
And that was sad.

I couldn't get back at this sooner as I was driving home from work
No offense taken :) I do always appreciate being corrected – I do the same w/ my kids when needed. So that said – according to Webster’s;
Offence
n. Chiefly British
Variant of offense.
noun
1. the action of attacking an enemy [syn: offense]
2. the team that has the ball (or puck) and is trying to score [syn: offense] [ant: defence]
(Or puck – I love it) Anyway, being a Canuck we’re schooled using the British version. I’m 49 yrs. old – I need time to change :)

Herb Taylor
If he hasn’t beat out Mac yet, then isn’t that a sign that he’s either A) not that good or B) still has a long way to go.
I mean he was a 6th round pick a year ago. How much tape has anyone seen on him? Very little.
(EA – just playing a little devil’s advocate..)

What about Barry Richardson?
Anyone heard how he’s progressing?
Wasn’t he supposed to be a talented player who just loses focus easily cause he isn’t challenged? Why hasn’t he cracked the lineup then?

I mean he's only a rookie
But again, if he’s not in there, and we’re knocking the guy above on the depth chart, then what does that say about him?
We talk about Herb and Barry but they’re still just 2nd and 1st year guys, respectively.

If Barry was ready
Herm would start him for sure. That said – it’s hard to believe he’s not at least as good a Mac
by Cat Stabber on Sep 16, 2008 7:02 PM CDT 0 recs
My Take
Is that there’s not a chance that Huard will get the start this week. Herm’s pumping up the idea that there’s an open competition so it will appear he’s putting a lot of thought into this but it’s pretty obvious after last week that he doesn’t like Huard, so there is no real open competition. That way, when Thigpen lays an egg and Herm doesn’t yank him Herm can claim that this is all part of the plan and he obviously doesn’t give up on the plan just because things get tough because he’s resolute that it’s the right course of action (even if his “plan” is garbage because he has no clue what he’s doing and he’s making shit up as he goes along).
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

That last sentences
Is classic Herm. Classic.
Now that you said that, I guess I can see Thigpen > Huard.

If you've been living in a cave the last week...
you wouldn’t know that Tyler Thigpen doesn’t deserve to play in the NFL. Otherwise, if you HAVEN’T been living in a cave – then there is absolutely ZERO reasons as a football fan you should even think he’s worthy as a #3. Bar none, the worst QB performance I’ve ever witnessed and I’ve seen better decision making from junior varisty QB’s in high school
….It’s not even funny. I’m still foaming in the mouth from last weekends display. I want Herm’s head on a plate for the atrocity we called a football game and if one would be incompetent enough to commit the same mistake(s) again then I’m wasting a lot of my free time.

What if
Thigpen went out and played well?
I’m not saying he’s going to. I’m convinced that whoever plays is going to play badly. I’m not asking this as a call for Thigpen, I’m just wondering about something to hope for. I mean, the call is Huard, obviously, based on last week. But what if Thigpen came in and played well? Wouldn’t that be cool? It’s something to hope for.
I guess that’s why I wanted Thigpen last week. There’s a chance that Thigpen will get it and improve. I have no such hope with Huard. He is what he is and that’s it.
An impossible hope or a dismal reality. Welcome to the 2008 Kansas City Chiefs.

I will poo in the other...
Just saying.
But I think it will be pigpen Thigpen.
“He’s got more upside than Damon at this point. He’s mobile, and he can throw on the run. We need that right now with the state of the offensive line. These guys that are out there are giving it their best and getting beat. So it’s on us, as coaches, to give them some help by putting a guy in there who can move around. And right now, that guy is Tyler [Thigpen].”

My (earlier) point was based on the Herm quote
“Whoever the starter is, will play the whole game as long as he’s healthy”
If Herm is to be believed – Thigpen is the only Q.B. we have that has a chance of playing the whole game – and that’s because of his mobility not ability. At this point he is CLEARLY not the Q.B. solution this team needs – but he might live to see and comprehend Monday. Damon would just wake up in the hospital sometime late Sunday afternoon a la Trent G.

Wait A Minute!!!
And, the head coach plans no personnel changes on his offensive line this week.
I almost missed that. DOES THIS MEAN McSACK IS BACK AT RIGHT TACKLE!?! AFTER THE GAME HE PLAYED LAST WEEK!?!
Thigpen’s screwed…I mean seriously, that kid hasn’t got a chance. I think McSack’s going up against John Abraham.

I've thought to myself
the reason they play Thigpen is because his mobility fits better into the design of Gailey’s new offense which they were using Croyle as the center piece of. As to not throw off its development and not wanting to scrap it just because Croyle’s down. But for pete’s sake no development will occur at with Thigpen at the healm. It’s become evident Huard not in favor w/ Herm, but I don’t care for playing favorites I care about winning ball games. And if Herm Edwards isn’t here to do that let’s find somebody, anybody, who is willing to. With all the political propaganda we’re fed on a daily basis from both sides of the same coin the last thing I have a stomach for on the weekends is listen to Herm’s incoherent ass
Again, I’m still foaming at the mouth the more I think about last weekends display. Even though I predicted we’d be as bad as the Dolphins last year we ARE a better team that was put onto the field last Sunday and I simply refuse to believe otherwise.
by KansasCityShuffle on Sep 16, 2008 10:15 PM CDT 0 recs
In all honesty
It should be Tyler. He IS the most like Croyle. He deserves to show if he can stay healthy for a game. Hell, he made it as long as Croyle or Damon has through one game. If he can go one whole game without getting the injury bug, he just might be the guy.
Jesus I can’t believe I’m posting this. Can someone take the jesus juice CP gave away?

Put Pigpen In
Obviously everyone agrees our line sucks, so put Pigpen or Thipgen or whatever his name is in. At least then they’ll be taking out our 3rd string QB instead of our 2nd. Heck if he can stay upright, keep him in until Brodie returns, then we might have a healthy Huard if Brodie goes down again.
