WOW!

OK, I see that our offense is struggling with the QB issues.  We are coming alive at the end of the game a little but WOW.  I mean to let the Raiders of all teams run over us like a bulldozer.  The Broncos can blow these guys out of the water 41-14 and we can't keep them from running over us???  LJ looks apathetic.  Gonzalez isn't getting any passes, and all the money we have spent on defense and we can't get a push on their offensive line?  I had better hopes of this season.  I mean I didn't think we were goin to win the division, but I did think we could at least beat the Raiders.

….Get McIntosh the hell out of there….

….Is it worth losing your first home game of the season, against one of the worst teams in the league, by playing your #3 QB? We’re the laughingstock of the the league. This isn’t colliegiate football, but watching KC’s QB play you wouldn’t know any better

….If my first name started with Damon, and ended w/ Huard – I’d be PISSED. Far beyond what I am now…

….I think my assesment in a previous post comparing this year’s team to the Dolphins last year will hold to be true…

….If there was an open QB competition happening TODAY, I think even a concussed Trent Green could beat out the scrubs on our depth chart….

…Pollard, you’re going be a stud in this league

….At what point in the season do we consider LJ “dunzo”

I’m too miffed @ Herm to even continue. I’m gonna go drown my sorrows ; ^ )

Pollard isn't a stud IMO

This is a passing league, safeties like him who don’t excel in coverage are getting pushed out. Look at Roy Williams.

I like Pollard I just think he’s probably better fitted for some sort of linebacker/safety hybrid.

He Did A Solid Job Yesterday

Of running Darren McFadden down from behind…which shouldn’t have happened, since McFadden’s supposedly one of the faster players in the NFL. Frankly I think Pollard’s looked better and better in coverage the longer he’s been in the league (unlike Roy Williams in Dallas, who seems to have regressed). It’s tough for any DB to look good in coverage, though, when there’s no consistent pass-rush threat in the front seven.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Oh, 1 more

…How stupid do you have to be when Hagans is in the game, to think they’ll do anything but RUN?

additions and comments on the above

-I don’t know how they expect LJ to get any yards when we call what appears to be the same play every time we get a 1st down. And then we just pull him from the game entirely – the guy had TWELVE carries!! This game looked like a week 4 preseason game… totally embarrassing.

I can’t imagine how easy it was for Rob Ryan to plan for this game – “Ok, for the first three quarters they are going to run on first down… and probably right up the gut. So I’ll just stack the line for that. Then we just blitz the QB because they can’t seem to protect the QB on any pass play. As a matter of fact, let’s just blitz the whole game because there is no way they can stop anything.”

-I actually can’t wait for Croyle to return… and I can’t believe I’m saying that. Thigpen isn’t going to develop in to anything… ever. His arm is ok, his decision making is abhorrent. I can’t count on both hands how many times he threw in to double and triple coverage. Then there was that awesome play where he didn’t read Asomogha (sp?) completely reading that bubble screen and nearly getting a pick-6. It’s not that hard to pick out a white jersey in the middle of 3. Even when he wasn’t throwing in to hardcore coverage, he was inaccurate. Bring on the Ingle!!

-wtf is up with our playcalling… I just can’t understand it. I want a 10 page report with a TPS cover letter on it explaining why we can’t adjust to what is happening in a game. Oh… can’t run up the middle? I have an idea – let’s try running it up the middle again. They’ll never expect it a 23rd time!! Newsflash – until we show we can pass the ball, teams will always stuff the box and we will never be able to run. Just because we showed we could pass on ONE drive in the FIRST game of the preseason does not provide sufficient evidence that we have a passing game. Nobody is buying it.

The only positive to come out of this weekend is that we are now tied with San Diego for last in the AFC West, which is pretty hilarious.

One of my good friends is a Miami fan, and I had to watch him struggle through that 1-15 season last year. I fear that I may be in his shoes this year. Sad sad sad indeed.

Speaking of Chargers....

Has anyone ever pointed out here, that the Chargers 3rd string QB is better than our starting? Whitehurst was selected one pick above him and I firmly believe if given the opportunity Croyle has been given he would have exceled

as far as draft postions

croyle was rated as high as the 3rd qb in the draft until his size and bulk and injury history doomed him.

he had a fantastic senior bowl and it wasn’t an overwhelmingly strong QB class.

There Was Nobody Behind Croyle That Was A Stellar Candidate In That Draft

Of course, that’s still not a reason to name Croyle the “QB of the future” and give him an uncontested starting position. Picking one of the top QBs in a mediocre draft class does not make that QB good by comparison. And Croyle’s performance during his overall tenure at Alabama was far from fantastic…it was slightly above-average and marred by serious injuries.

Bottom line: We should have been looking for QB prospects through free agency and in every draft since we drafted Croyle as well. If he beat out the competition and got the starting job that way, fine…he’d have earned it. But it was sheer idiocy and desperation to declare that we were set at QB with a fragile player who’d never outperformed his backup and not bring in anyone. It was a ridiculous and reckless gamble, it predictably blew up in Peterson’s and Edwards’ faces and they deserve to lose their jobs for it.

P.S. I’m not all that sold that Whitehurst is good. I’m not all that sure he’s better than Billy Volek (who’s only a slightly better version of Huard…probably because of his better lines).

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Oh I agree

I was complaining last week about how they wouln’t throw on 1st down with. I know that these backup QB’s don’t know all the passing plays but COME ON! Like you said roll with what they throw. I mentioned in another blog that Herm should be a Defensive Coordinator or coach at a franchise like Chicago. BRING BACK MARTY!!!! Marty had a west coast Offense and now Herm comes in and wants to turn us into a smashmouth run em football team?!?!? That requires TOOO much change in personell. LJ was good because Trent opened up the field with the west coast offense. Our line is not set up like Chicago’s or Pittburghs. GET US A QB!
