Jeff Garcia?
I just read this on si.com in Michael Lombardi's post: "I really believe Griese will remain the starter for the rest of the season. The Bucs have made several calls letting teams know Garcia is available for trade."
I know Garcia doesn't fit into the "youth movement" we are currently enjoying, but wouldn't he fit with this team? I can see our young offensive players really blossoming with this (former) pro bowl caliber quarterback. Imagine what our receivers could do knowing that there is proved QB in the pocket.
I think that in a few years when Garcia is ready to retire, the rest of the offense will be at their peak - thus making the transition to a young QB easier.
Your thoughts?

I think
Garcia would be an okay temporary fix. He’s fairly mobile (which Damon isn’t) and would add veteran leadership. I just wonder what the price tag is.

Well
I know Garcia doesn’t fit into the “youth movement” we are currently enjoying, but wouldn’t he fit with this team?
Unless he’s injured, which (judging by the quality of his play last week) is not an unreasonable assumption. Frankly, he’s going to get cut soon enough that it’s not really worth it to trade when you can try and sign him as a free agent. There really aren’t any other starting jobs open right now so we’d probably have first crack at him.

Do you think he would fit...
… with what Herm is trying to do? Even if we wait and get him at the end of the year as free agent, do you think it would be a good move? Or just another band-aid on a bullet wound?

I Don't Think We'll Have To Wait Long
From what they’re saying the relationship between Garcia and Gruden is so bad he’ll be gone in a couple of weeks so we won’t have to wait until the end of the year.
As for how he fits, if he’s healthy then he’s probably fine to bring in, just not for a long-term deal. But we may need him next year if Croyle flames out because I seriously doubt Thigpen, Martin or Bartel are going to be the answer at QB for us (so we’ll have to develop a new one) and he may be better than Huard. Just not enough to cough up a draft pick for, though. And I don’t think we ought to dump Damon Huard just yet, in case Garcia not good this year.

Garcia is 38 years old
There is absolutely NO reason to bring him to the Chiefs. We need a QB that will be around the next 6 or 7 years, not one that should be retiring after this season.

I wouldn't be opposed
If we were a playoff ready team and our QB either sucked or was just injured.

I agree
I’d rather stick with Huard for now, because he knows the offense and the receivers. Though he isn’t our future, he is loyal and a decent QB. As our line improves, so will he. Our goal is to find the right young guy to develop. Huard is here and he will get us through this year of “rebuild” and “reload”. We may lose a few games, but won’t lose draft picks or cap space we need to resign the players we need to reward and keep for the future.

Yep
I hope you knew that I don’t think we’re playoff caliber right now! :)

What? Are you kidding me?
You don’t think we’re playoff caliber right now? I KNOW we are….it’s just that we are a few grains short of a full load of powder to get us there! (as in a few LBs, OLinemen, a ready QB, and WRs) . Otherwise, we are ready!!!

Rumor is
The Bucs were trying to get whatever they could for him. That’s an indictment on his future abilities if I’ve ever heard one.

How many do we need?
If my math is correct that’s 6 QBs, none of which would likely start on any other team(excepts for Garcia, maybe). Well, only 47 more and we’ll be all set. The perfect team made of 3rd string/practice squad QBs.

What's wrong with 6 QBs?
The Bucs did it. :)

Consider this though as far as a trade with Gruden
The Bucs wasted little time in agreeing to terms with center Jeff Faine, striking a deal barely an hour into the free-agent signing period on Feb. 29.
But Chiefs coach Herm Edwards apparently thinks they were overzealous, implying that they tampered with Faine while he was under contract with the Saints.
“There were probably some deals done before,” Edwards said in a news conference Monday. “We didn’t cheat. We abided by the rules. That’s how you’re supposed to do it, and that’s what we did.”

Not sure if Gruden wants to “help” the Chiefs right now, unless they pay dearly.

No doubt that was tampering
I remember that signing vividly because I stayed up until about 2 AM on March 1st following the signings.
By 12:45 AM, Faine had signed the biggest deal for a center in NFL history. The source (I think FOXSports.com) already had several quotes from Faine and everything.

...
What the chiefs are trying to do is rebuild a team at just about every position, so if there is inexperience everywhere, how much learning can be done? They definitely need a player like garcia to show the them how to win, not have a game like we did today (17 for 46 for approx 200 yards a td and 2 int) which really helped our running game which got about forty yards. for fucks sake, what do you do with that? its gonna regress the players and there goes rebuilding season…
