Unfortunately
Their record is 1-0 and ours is 0-1. And last year, when they were the youngest team in the NFL, their record was 13-3.
Youth is a good thing to have, but talent, good coaching and personnel management are even more important. Right now we’ve got youth and we might have talent, but coaching and personnel management are not looking so great.

If we were 1-0
but had looked as sorry as we did last weekend, say the Patriots just looked worse without Brady, would you say that we’re on the right track? Is the gap between wins and losses and all other indicators the size of a small ocean, or just like, the Mississippi River?
Of course, give me four months, and I may readily agree with your second paragraph. Again.

At 1-0
I’d probably be a little less pessimistic on our chances, same as I’d be less pessimistic on our chances if we were 12-4 last year instead of 4-12. Don’t get me wrong, I think the team’s shown improvement. I’m just starting to wonder if maybe Herm is going to put a ceiling on that improvement with questionable play-calling.
To me, Herm’s kind of like Glen Mason, the former KU coach. Good recruiter, knew how to put a team of talented players together, but you knew that the Jayhawks probably weren’t ever going to a BCS bowl with him there because he’d always undermine his teams in big games by making at least one or two completely boneheaded playcalls that would cost them the wins they needed. Herm’s playcalling at the goal line on Sunday definitely reminded me of Glen Mason (specifically, the KU-Nebraska game back in ’93).

People keep questioning the playcalling
And yet, with the playcalling we were put in a position to win the game against the defending AFC Champs that no one save the Giants found a way to beat. If Bowe had caught either of the passes thrown to him in the endzone, we would have beaten them.
So yes, the playcalling was boring, but it SHOULD have won us the game.

Last Year

That nobody found a way to beat last, while they had Tom Brady in the lineup. If Brady had gone down last season I have very little doubt that quite a few people would have beaten them last season.
But yes, the team was put in a position to win, but after Bowe blew the TD catch on 1st down the coaching staff really screwed up by not trying to pound it in via the ground game. This is why we gave Larry Johnson the superstar contract, after all…and if he can’t be relied on to come through on the goal line, you’ve got to question why the offense was built around a ground game with him being featured.

I didn’t know KU had a football team until last year.

Yup
Even had a few good years in there once in awhile. Went to the Aloha Bowl twice in the ’90’s, had a running back (Tony Sands) who set the single game rushing and carries record against Missouri (until LaDainian Tomlinson eventually broke the rushing record). Almost won a national championship back in ’69 when we had a future Hall of Famer by the name of John Riggins playing halfback for us. Our team still holds the record for the longest run from scrimmage in NCAA history (99 yards, by Gale Sayers).

OOOOH
You’re a KU fan! That explains it! You’re used to settling for the lesser quarterback!
(Mizzou Fan. Man, we really have little to agree on. Do you like vanilla over chocolate, too? Wait, you think Huard should start, of course you prefer vanilla!)
Or maybe you just sense a kinship between Reesing and Huard for their propensity to end up with sod on their helmets?
Just kidding!
Also, I think you have a better than decent chance of whipping the hell out of South Florida tomorrow.

I Think It Will Be A Good Game Tomorrow
We’ll see, though…I don’t think anyone can love their chances against Jim Leavitt’s teams. He’s just a really good coach.
Saw an interesting article on Reesing in the KC Star today, by the way…seems like a pretty sharp kid who’s not going to end up as one of those “athletes who can’t make it in the real world” mold. Good for him.

Huard v. Croyle

Actually, it’s more an issue of preferring vanilla over the flavor of rotting fruit. :)
