WR Samie Parker signed by Seahawks
Seahawks just supposedly signed him, and we are not sure what his skill-set is.
We all know he is fast, and that he is a PR/KR. But what kind of hands does he have, is he any good at route-running? Can he play on coverage teams, is he an good, adaquate, or bad tackler? And anything else you can tell us would he helpful.
Thank you

he is a PR/KR
.
really? He tried out for the Carolina punt returner job and got axed after one preseason game. he never returned punts or kicks for the chiefs.

alright...
Then I know even less about him. Who is he, and what does he do?

He was here for a couple years
Before I knew the skill set at which he supposedly excelled was speed.
There’s a reason the ‘Hawks are signing him only after Burleson went down (and combined with Engram and Branch’s injury, sounds like they’re pretty desperate).
The Chiefs have one of the worst WR corps in the NFL and he couldn’t cut it here even though we gave him PLENTY of chances.
I don’t foresee Seattle hanging onto him once everyone is healthy again.

He was here for 4 years
netting 110 catches for 1509 yards, fumbling 3 times. I don’t see him staying on any roster that’s healthy. But all this getting tossed around by several teams might knock something loose in his head where he finally “gets it.”
Don’t really like the guy, but I don’t think he’s Satan’s right hand man like most the people on here do. He was a below-average receiver who didn’t meet expectations.

the biggest problem
was that his track and field speed didn’t translate to the NFL – he never became the deep threat he was drafted to be.

I almost 100% agree
but it wasn’t necessarily only his track and field. he was a bonfide deep threat when he played football at oregon. The guy just can’t seem to make it work in the NFL.

Just one more guy to add to the
“Dick Vermeil is a horrible judge of how college talent translates to the NFL” crowd =)

yup.
About the only thing he’s going to do anymore is be a journeyman backup when teams like the Seahawks lose a lot of receivers due to injuries. Can’t be that bad of a paycheck.
Anyone know how that works? Is your contract pro-rated based on how long you play for a team assuming you don’t play it out?

Vested veterans
Which I think is four years, have their base salaries fully guaranteed if they are on the roster opening day.

Won't help your special teams either
I knew special teams was a concern in Seattle so I guess signing Parker shows just how much of a concern it really is.

so...
In conclusion, he is fast, doesn’t have hands, no KR/PR experience, no ST ability or experience. Is that right?

good thing
the Seahawks have Engram and Branch coming back in a few weeks.

oh oh!!
and when he does< finally make a catch that goes for about 10 yards, he gets up and celebrates like he just scored a TD.

Wow
Seahawks sound desperate.

They also signed well-known Stud WR...
(checking name…) BILLY McMullen.
Go Seahawks. ;)
Best part is all of us actually have high hopes for him, cause we hear he’s 6’4" and has good hands. It sounds like a dream come true right now…regardless of how athletic he is. Of course, we should get Seneca Wallace into the next couple of games and then things will get better when Bobby Engram and Deion Branch come back. And our young RG was playing last game with a torn pectoral muscle.

Whose taking Rob Sims spot?
Womack?
Maybe he can instill some pass blocking abilities in these guys.
by Joel Thorman on Sep 10, 2008 5:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Probably Womack...for a week or two.
Then he’ll get hurt and we won’t see him again for a couple years.
If Locklear gets back he is a very good pass blocking RT…and that should help a LOT. When he gets back Willis(current RT) is good enough to be the RG. And eventually he probably will play there this year even if not right away because of Pork Chop’s injury history.
After those two you get Wrotto, a great run blocker with little pass blocking disipline so far…and Steve Vallos, who is a lot smarter than he is athletic.
Ultimately Rob Sims can be replaced by Willis or Womack pretty effectively, Locklear is where the real upgrade will come from.

Samie Parker really isn't THAT bad...
but he definitely should never be a starter, otherwise your team is in trouble… big time.

hahaha.. your funny. good joke..
Sammy Parker really is “THAT bad”.. he is an embarassment
ugh.

I never thought
Parker was really that awful. He should have never been more than a 3rd WR. What few chances he had to catch, my memory serves as him catching quite a few of those passes that were catchable. Always thought that the fans were hard on the guy, but I suppose it’s not hard to hate on a guy who celebrates a first-down like he just hit a buzzer-beater.
I don’t realy get all the negativity towards him, though. He played over Sippio and got everyone’s panties in a bunch is what I think. Oh, and where is Sippio now-a-days? Oh that’s right… not even getting tryouts with teams. Get off the Parker-hating bandwagon bitches. He’s not with the Chiefs.

Chill yourself freak
sry to offend your boyfriend
ugh.

Sammy might be ok
If he would not catch a pass, run a liitle ways then figure it is a good time to fall down in the middle of the field. He seemed to be able to make some hard catches, but if it hits him in the hands it is a sure drop.

Parker was used in the wrong ways….i think you guys are to hard on him
by IamtheGreatest on Sep 10, 2008 9:43 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Unlikely
It’s unlikely that the Chiefs coaches who watched him everyday in practice and on film were wrong about him for four years.
Plus, after Engram and Branch get back Parker likely won’t be on the roster.

Kinda reminds me of someone else on the team
who’s had a few years to prove they can do the job, but can’t.

Will have to be a little more specific
I think we’ve got several of those guys. :)
by Joel Thorman on Sep 11, 2008 9:02 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
he was used as a starter....
he isn’t a starter but i really didn’t think he did a bad job coming off the slot…..I think he is better than Jeff Webb as a 3 and i definitely think he is better than Maurice Hagans who we have now….I still think that he is better than Bobby Sippio but its all a matter of opinion…

It's funny how an HBO special
can make people fall in a love with a guy who no one in a position of football authority thought was better than Parker. But apparently some fans know better than the coaches, staff, and other teams coaches and staff’s. The whole Sippio thing tries my patience.

He's definitely better than Hagans and Sippio
But when it comes down to it we couldn’t justify paying him anything more than the minimum considering we can get similar production for the minimum.
