Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

I can't tell you today whether or not Sippio will make the team. My guess is that he won't. But one thing is becoming clear: the wide receivers who will play for the Chiefs when the season begins will come from this group: Bowe, Devard Darling, Franklin, Price and Webb. Not Bobby Sippio.

And that's something the billions of Bobby Sippio fans out there will just have to deal with.

I think it is to early to know.

If he plays like he did against the bears for the rest of the preseason I think he has a good chance of making it.

I know him very well.

His mom is my science teacher( I am only 12 years old). I go to his dads football camp. he is one of the nicest and most unselfish people I know

He looked great Thursday.

He’s got real sure hands and can gain some yards as a checkdown. His blocking’s pretty solid but he did miss a couple guys.

As of now I’m rooting for Manderino simply because we’ve got the inside track with him here at AP, but Cox seems perfect for the job.

+1 on everything.

With the interviews and everything with Manderino, I have found myself rooting for him.

But Cox is probably a better person for the job, and he will (and should) probably win it.

The way he played Thursday

I don’t think there’s much debate in the matter now. He hit guys hard in blocking and did a great job catching that pass. He already is familiar with Chan Gaileys way of doing things. Really no reason to go with anyone else.

I think

Cox caught two passes – in one game he had more yards than Wilson did all last season =)

I disagree about Sippio

I think he has one thing the others dont and that is heart. He knows he is on the edge and will play with the extra passion necessary to land the #5 WR spot.

Disagreement with Adam T on Sippio

Last year Jason King had a short article dated September 13 about Sippio in the sports section, which I found cached and have included a couple of sentences below. I wrote Jason, and we exchanged 3 or 4 emails, and I am going to paraphrase what he said since I cannot remember every word.

I questioned him why Sippio was not playing. Jason wrote back and the essence of his reply was this. He said he had attended every practice session, and watched the wide receivers closely. He stated it was “clearly obvious” that Sippio had more talent and ability than any receiver we had in camp, and he simply could not figure why he wasn’t receiving more playing time. However, Sippio’s one drawback was he clearly was the slowest receiver on the field. That appeared to be his “only” drawback. He also stated, “I believe they are going to play the ones they have more invested in than a free agent.”

That said, there are still a few games left for Sippio to prove his worth if he gets the chance. I place more faith in King’s observations than Theicher’s. At the very least it appears the staff is giving Bobby a long look.

Byline: Jason King

Sep. 13-When the phone call finally came - when the Chiefs offered him a chance to make their roster—receiver Bobby Sippio wasn’t even excited.

“I didn’t want to start back at the bottom,” Sippio said.

It figures on the first 5...

All of them have looked really good thus far, and they are all likely more talented than Sippio save Webb.

However, unless K. Robinson finally gets healthy and steals the kick return game and ‘counts’ as the sixth receiver, I still think Sippio make the team. Sippio >>>> every other WR on the roster.

It sounds like

Adam T is really hating on Sippio. Im sure he has his reasons, but I dont recall a writer flat out telling a man that he wouldnt make the team before. I think Sippio has made it this far for a reason. He looked good during the bears game so hopefully we will make the team.

Did Darling even play Thursday?

Because I don’t remember seeing his name once the whole game. I didn’t even see him targeted with a pass.

Franklin and Price looked good. I thought Sip did well enough. He may have done better if Pigpen had been on target with more than 25% of his throws.

I’ll reserve judgment for a few more games at least. I’m not ready to cut any of our WR’s at this point. I think they’re all fighting hard for the job.

Darling did play

but he wasn’t thrown to once.

Sippio May Be Slow

But that’s not necessarily a career-killer in the NFL. Tom Waddle was possibly the slowest receiver to play the game, and yet he was very valuable for the Bears when he played for them. I am a Sippio fan, and I recognize that the guy’s got shortcomings, but honestly he’s looked impressive enough to merit a shot at some playing time. The only legitimate reason I can see for not keeping him around would be age (he’s 28) not the lack of top-flight speed.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.
