The only way Pennington makes sense to the Chiefs is if they feel Thigpen isn't capable of being a competent number two. As committed as Herm Edwards is to this youth movement, he wants a quarterback capable not just of getting the Chiefs through a game or a season, but one who can get the Chiefs through the next five years.
KC Star Chiefs Blog
Consider this the official prediction thread. Will Thigpen play well enough to make us forget about Pennington? Or will Herm make a run at his former signal caller?

The question is...
Does Pennington want to be a starter, or is he content being a backup?
I DO NOT want Pennington as a starter, but I think he would be ultimately superior to Damon Huard as a mentor to Croyle or the next young QB. He is extremely intelligent and knows football inside out, he simply was not blessed with good athletic ability.
So if he is happy being the mentor type and maybe the primary backup in a Super Bowl run in a few years, I’m all for it. If he wants to come in and compete for the starting job, I have to say thanks, but no thanks.

I Think Pennington Ends Up With The Dolphins
It’s in the AFC East, he’d be the starter this year, and he’d likely command a bigger contract than he would from us. And honestly if I were a player I’d probably have more faith in a team run by Bill Parcells than one run by Carl Peterson. The only draw for him here would be Herm Edwards.

The only draw?
And the inevitability of Croyle missing extended time at some point.

If He Goes To Miami
He’s pretty much guaranteed a starting spot. So if he wants to play KC is not a draw when Miami offers a better opportunity. Plus, I don’t think most players like to be in a position where a teammate has to get injured for them to get on the field.

Injury Prone
What I do know is that both Brodie Croyle and Chad Pennington are very injury prone thus far in their career.

The only way Pennington makes sense to the Chiefs is
that he takes Huards place. I do not know if that makes sense though.
