I know the Chiefs are committed to Brodie Croyle. I know the Chiefs' offense under Chad Gailey is not the same scheme Pennington ran for Herm Edwards in New York.
And I know Pennington has been injury prone. Playing behind a shaky line in Kansas City is an invitation to the disabled list.
BUT ... Croyle is just as injury prone, if not more so. And when he goes down, I'll take my chances with Pennington over Tyler Thigpen or Damon Huard.

And glue and water and tinfoil and possibly some chicken wire...
Oh, you were talking about the article, not Pennington.

I say take him
We have 39 million in cap space and one of the most uninspiring starting quarterbacks that I’ve seen since becoming a chiefs’ fan in 94’. Still, Pennington would almost certainly get hurt at some point, so I don’t want to part with any of the backups either.

Those four names seal the deal against signing Pennington

Apples To Oranges
Bono and Grbac were brought in to be the starters…Pennington isn’t. Huard was never a quality starter for any team, Pennington has been. Moon was the only comparable and he was 11 years older than Pennington when we signed him (and had a worse season his final year with Seattle than Pennington had last year in NY). So he’s not really all that similar to Moon. Frankly, if Pennington comes here as a backup and posts a season like last year, he’ll be a decent signing for us. Especially if we get him for less than we’re paying Huard.

Croyle more injury prone than Pennington??
Really? As far as I recall, Pennington’s noodle-arm fell apart in back to back seasons. Croyle blew some knees in college, and had a small case of puss-itus last year with his back and such.
I’ll hold off on saying Crizzle is as injury prone as Pennington until Crizzle misses almost two whole consecutive seasons because his throwing arm is torched.
I’m all for Pimpington as a backup to Crizzle. I’d take him over Pigpen and Grandpa Huard fo sho. I wouldn’t dump any of our other QB’s though… we could have another year like the Jets had in ‘05 (?) when everybody bit the dust and they had to bring in Testes-Verde.

In addition
I’d rather us try to snake the Spleeninator out of Tampa Bay (Simms). At least he’s still young enough to grow with the team if necessary.

Simms Sucks
He’s never played a full season, he didn’t play at all last year and the times he did play in 2006 he wasn’t good. He had a moderately interesting season in 2005, but that was three years ago and there’s been a lot of damage to the guy since then. 2005 was also the only year his TDs outnumbered his INTs. Pass.

my memory is froggy
I only remember the season where his spleen exploded and nearly killed him. I thought he was doing ok up to that point, or at least improving. Was that ‘06?
Oh well… if Pennington Bear goes to Miami (as you mentioned below) that is fine. Perhaps we will shop elsewhere? It sounds like Herm wants to get another arm if for nothing else just to relieve the current 3 fellas… to lower their pitch count if you will.

That Was '05.
He had a pretty good season in 2005, actually. 60+% completion, more TDs than INTs, solid downfield passing numbers. In 2006 his numbers were worse than his numbers in 2004. Although it was, in all fairness, a small sample size of three games, but still he was absolutely horrible for those three games (two of them against very underwhelming opponents).

Dolphins Are Apparently Making A Play For Pennington
If so, I don’t think we’ve got a shot at him. The Dolphins will likely start Pennington if they can sign him so Henne and Beck have a little breathing room in their development. Plus, it’s in the same division so there may be a comfort level there.

I say
why waste a dime on Mr. “Washed Up” Pennington. He was Herm’s boy in New York. That alone is enough to make a sensible person shy away from him.

In case you hadn't noticed
we now have an entire team of “Herm’s boys” ;)

One Great BIG Vote...
... NO!
Chad is not the answer at QB for us, as either a backup or a starter.
Now, I’m not dim enough to believe that Noodle-arm doesn’t own a squishy-soft spot in Herm’s great big heart, but there’s no way he can sell Chad’s slow-footed, OLD, and expensive self to us and still look us in the eye and give us the “young, unproven, and inexpensive” line about our team and Free Agents.
I’m not going to buy it.
Chad- you’re a nice guy. You’ve got a shitty arm. Yes, you and Herm backed your way into the playoffs a couple of times b/c the AFC West kept beating itself up. I wish you the very best. I hope you were smart with your money. Now- just so we’re clear- stay the F*$# away from Kansas City.

Herm was moon eyed
gaa-gaa over Pennington when he was in New York. Nevermind that Pennington had done nothing at all on the field to deserve Herm’s goofy assed man crush. Pennington sucks, pure and simple. We need another washed up Jet like we need to listen to more crap from Donkies fans.

Hate To Break It To You
But Pennington’s got a better QB rating over his career than Trent Green. His TD/INT ratio is about the same (Pennington 7.45/5, Green 3/2) and his completion percentage is five points higher, although that’s alleviated by Green being a better deep passer. Basically Pennington’s been about the same caliber QB as Trent, so claiming that he’s done “nothing” on the field is a bit of an exaggeration on your part.

Oh please,
Pennington is not going to set any team on fire. He is as lackluster a quarterback as I can think of. I hate to break it to you but Pennington still sucks.

When Pennington is healthy
He has always been a playoff caliber QB, the problem is he just can’t stay healthy. I think this would be a good backup signing, but I know that wont happen. We won’t get him for less than Huard, I think I recall Huard’s deal being around 2 Million after they restructured his contract.
by Shawn on Aug 8, 2008 5:19 PM CDT 0 recs
And by the way
Chad Pennington would not make a pimple on Trent Green’s rear end.
