Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Pennington is as good as ours.

The Jets acquiring Favre means that they will likely release Pennington, who's got zero trade value.

The Chiefs, hurting behind Croyle with an overachieving 2nd year rook with promise (Thiggy) and a 47-year-old vet with nothing left (Huard), will likely be in front to pick him up, considering Herm's penchant for Pennington. Although if the Bears or Vikings believe Pennington is a Super Bowl QB, the Chiefs won't sniff him. I personally don't think those teams feel that way.

Thank goodness, too. Huard is on his last wheels, and I believe Thiggy needs another year to adjust to NFL speed (although I guess we'll see how far he's along this preseason).

Put simply, Thiggy is just not ready to lead a team in the NFL. Not even a cellar-dwelling, rebuilding team like the Chiefs. Pennington is a good veteran off the bench, who can give our young players something to work with at the QB position.

If he was relatively inexpensive

Then I’m fine with him as a back-up – unless we really do think Thigpen can play. If so, then he’ll see time this year.

If not, I’d say Pennington is an upgrade over Damon (who, as much as anyone, seems to be on his way out).

I completely disagree with ya'll

Pennington can no longer throw a football without hurting himself. His shoulder bad, it may not be hurt but he can not be counted on to keep the defense of balance with a long bomb. He is in no way a upgrade over Damon if anything its a toss up.

PENNINGTON

i dont care what pennington does to herm under his desk, i would be UPSET if they let pennington take #2 or 3 over huard
Huard has an arm that can throw the ball just as far as pennington’s pea shooter, but with more accuracy and finesse
also, despite anything you say about damon, he does his job and leads his offense how his offensive coordinator tells him to

I agree! Please no Pennington!

How would Pennington ever get the ball downfield to Bowe! I for one am a little fed up with Herm’s experiments! A few years back Chad may have been an option, however Herm and Chad obviously have teamed up before with mixed results. So how would it get better now? Picking up Chad would be filled with contradictions to what the Chiefs are attempting to do. Let’s hope it’s not done, but with Edwards you just never know!

?

It’s not like he is going to start…and if you were at the training camp like i was maybe you would know that Damon Huard looked awful….he couldn’t throw worth crap….and made stupid decisons…..Thigpen looked better but only because he could scramble out of the pocket….Pennington has game experince over Thigpen and has much better fundamentals then huard

Herm knows nothing

at all about offense, and Pennington is Herm’s man. Enough said. Why do we need a washed up Jets retread who couldn’t play in the first place?

How much of a "need" is a veteran QB for us????

Personally, I would rather have Casey Printers back than consider “noodle arm”. I mean I agree that having a veteran backup is necessary, but really Huard and Noodle Arm are basically the same player. They are both smart and can manage the game, but Damon actually has an arm which makes our passing attack less “one dimensional” (as discussed). Also, in our current situation how much of a “need” do you think a veteran QB is anyway??? It seems more like a “want”, and it might be a good think to not have one as it would force our younger guys to step it up. Also, seriously Herm, please try and find a veteran, trade, whatever that doesn’t come from NY.

No Pennington

I like Herm Edwards, but if he freaking brings in that guy in place of Huard then I will be the first person to be shouting for a new coach next year.

The Arrowhead Pride verdict...

...seems to be anti-Pennington. I don’t quite agree with that; I think Huard is basically done and while I see good things in Thiggy, I believe he needs at least another year (although we’ll all know better after the preseason).

Pennington has been a starter in this league, his weak arm isn’t any worse than Huard’s, while virtually everything else he can do is an upgrade over Huard at this point.

But we’ll see. Pennington will have been released by the Jets by 4pm today.

I'd Rather have Thigpen

If we weren’t going to spend any money on a slightly veteran offensive lineman I really don’t see the point in spending money on a washed up QB. I say just let Thigpen play if Croyle gets hurt, I’d rather him take his lumps this season so we can start to figure out if we have a QB of the future.
