Community Projections: Larry Johnson
From the FanPosts. Consider this part of the 'Community Projections' series Chris runs. -Primetime
What should we realistically expect to see from LJ this year? I’m sure a lot of you are wondering this, as I am. Will we see the LJ that broke the Chiefs rushing record, or the one that missed 8 full games last year with a foot injury? Short answer: don’t know.
Word from camp says LJ is back in full force, going full steam ahead, punishing the people that try to tackle him, and will not go down. However, all it takes is one play to put LJ back on the sideline. I’ve never had a foot injury but I’m sure that if the foot gets tweaked one time it could spell a disappointing season for Johnson and possibly the Chiefs.
LJ is a pivotal part of the Chiefs offense. Don’t forget that up until LJ got hurt last year during the Green Bay game the Chiefs were in first place in the AFC West at 4-3. Now, I’m not saying the Chiefs would have won the division with a healthy LJ, but they most likely would have won a few more games. (which could have totally changed the outcome of this draft)
Bottom line is I don’t think we should expect a 1700 yard season from LJ. What I expect is somewhere between 1300-1500 yards and hopefully around 15 TD’s. Anything above this would be bonus.

For those of you that don’t know me I’m bigknoxy and Chris asked me to write a few post to help out while is in India. He has been really helpful to me on www.kcchiefsfootball.com and I am just trying to return the favor a bit. Also, if you haven’t been to my site let me know what you think, any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks bigknoxy
Anything around 1,000-1,200 would be nice with me. Anything more than that I would be questioning how many carries LJ is getting.

I'd Say 1,000
I suspect he’ll probably get in the 250 carry range, which at 4 yards per carry would put him around 1,000 yards. I don’t see him pulling down 5 yards a carry with our line in the state it’s in.
Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

Yep
I think 1,000 would be great because I’m expecting a lot from the backup running backs too. I think as a team we could get to 1,800 if all goes well with our O-line.

Will Kolby even make the cut?
Can Savage impress enough that Kolby Smith doesn’t make the team? Whatever’s ailing Kolby better heal fast. Cuz it appears that Battle is winning a spot on the roster. And if that’s the case, then Battle can be work horse if something should happen to LJ, allowing two speedsters to create a multi-headed running attack with Charles and Savage, both of whom could be used for returns if needed.
Can’t believe I’m throwing this out there because I thought Kolby did an excellent job last year. And related to LJ, I’m putting him at 1250—lower due to the use of other backs.

I would take Kolby
over Savage…I think he is the more complete RB.

But what about Battle?
Gretz has had good things to say, and have you seen this video?

And Yes
I have seen that video…I have loved Battle since we grabbed him. If he if he could pick up the playbook and such he’d have a shot at being a pretty crazy back in the NFL – guy has near LJ size with Priest-esque speed (at least in a straight line :) )

If those running backs can play specials teams, they could all be in uniform week one.

I kind of hope he makes the team
He had a run or two that looked pretty good to me last year… we’ll see, but I believe he could be a durable stand-in for LJ if he get’s hurt again this year…

Yup
Reminds me of another #27…
One cut and go… bruising and difficult to take down. I know someone has mentioned it before, but Battle would be a good LJ replacement in short yardage situations. Charles will be a good change of pace back and a receiving threat as well.
I agree with PVChiefsfan… LJ, Smith, Battle and Charles will be on the roster at the start of the season.
Savage will be on the practice squad if at all possible.

Not afraid of contact
You will not see him step out if a db is in front of him.
