Trade No. 27
Maybe it's just me but I've been sorely disappointed, not only of the play from Larry, but also the leadership abilities of our overly touted running back. It is in my personal opinion that Kolby Smith and Jamaal Charles are viable options for the Chiefs in 2008. However, this might not be true in 2009.
We might be able to squeeze a 2nd rounder out of a team in return for LJ. And to me a 2nd Rounder could bring us another great OL or QB prospect since we will be taking Rey Maualuga next year with our first pick.
Tell me you guys aren't intrigued by the play of Kolby and Jamaal; enough to say that we don't need LJ this year.
In a zone blocking scheme you don't need the best talent at RB, so why not let go of our top man and give our speedy youngsters the ball?

The salary cap hit we would take
Would be unbearable. This isn’t a realistic possibility for several years.
Yeah, I think it is just you
People need to get over LJs personality and just pay attention to what he does on the field. He’s a great RB and like it or not, we’re tied to him for several years because of his contract.
Not every player on the team needs to be a leader.
Life without Larry
I think LJ proved his worth last year. The records before and after LJ’s injury were significantly different. Smith did well but was not part of any wins once Larry was gone. If some one like the vikes comes along and once to trade the front end of their draft for him, I would have to reconsider. A second rounder wouldn’t be a move forward.
Still One of Our Best
LJ is still very much of a spark and a force for the team. Again, we haven’t even played one REAL game this year. Let’s let him do what he does best. The Chiefs need players like him and he still has a few good years left in him, especially with the solid running of Smith and Charles to back him up. Where’s the loyalty? Are we going to call for Tony to get traded as well? I want them both for our run to the SB a couple of years from now.
From what I've read....
he’s been a really great teacher for Charles during camp, and Charles says he has learned a lot from him. Don’t have the link, but I read it a couple days ago how Larry is getting used to being a mentor.
I'm Going To Kill This Right Now
We cannot trade Larry Johnson, because doing so would entail approximately a 15-16 million dollar cap hit on us next season which would crush our ability to sign any young, promising free agents and would eliminate our ability to get rid of other dead contracts (Napolean Harris, primarily). Even if another team was willing to take on the non-guaranteed portion of the contract (which is far from a sure thing) and pony up a draft pick that would justify trading him, we cannot take that cap hit that would result unless we wanted to hurt our team’s rebuilding effort.
So you can thank Carl Peterson for rendering Larry Johnson untradeable. He’s not going anywhere this year.

Get over this Post
I had a few chardonnays when i wrote this post. I was obviously upset at something. Maybe i’m just trying to get a conversation starter going. And as far as comparing a trade between LJ and Tony G, it seems illogical to compare the two. One is expendable and the other is priceless. Tony is the best TE EVER and LJ is just really good.
No Worries
I wasn’t pissed or anything and we’re always happy to have discussions going…just that people keep trotting this scenario out, it’s been discussed on these boards before and we’ve repeatedly pointed out that Johnson’s contract makes it unfeasible.
Not that I’m opposed to trading Johnson if it wasn’t for the contract, so I can see where you’re coming from. Frankly, I thought we should have tried to trade him when he held out before last season, when his contract was small enough that someone probably would have been interested in taking a chance on him, but Peterson apparently deluded himself into thinking that team had a shot at the playoffs so he handed Johnson a rotten contract and now we’re stuck with the guy for at least two or three more years (and probably until he retires).
