Nick Novak will be the Chiefs kicker when they open the regular season Sept. 7 at New England.
The Chiefs informed Novak today and told rookie Connor Barth that they would be placing him on waivers, ending the camp-long battle between the two players.

I Love The Final Paragraph In The Article
The Chiefs apparently decided to go with the more experienced Novak, who has kicked in 16 NFL games, making 65 percent of his field goals for Washington and Arizona.
Because why should you pin your hopes on a rookie who might suck when you can have a veteran who already sucks?

Yes, but he has experiance sucking with three teams now....LOL

Especially The Cardinals
Who have been the poster child of “suck” for several decades. You know your team is in trouble when you’re picking up players that the Cardinals have dumped.

What Do You Mean?
Damion McIntosh and Anthony Alabi were ex-Dolphins and they’re outstanding tackles. Carl Peterson said so. :)

I am so pissed right now
I have no idea what they are thinking…neither Barth nor Novak are going to wow anyone with long kickoffs, but at least Barth got one past the goal line last night, and they seemed even on FG’s…I thought the kickoffs might do it.

Hmm...
Perhaps the Chiefs staff know something about Novak and Barth that we don’t? Still, this sucks.

I Doubt It
Honestly, I suspect it’s nothing so much as a CYA move so Carl doesn’t have to defend himself for choosing a rookie again.

After All
They didn’t know anything we didn’t about Eddie Drummond. He sucked, everyone knew he sucked, it was clearly obvious that he sucked and yet the Chiefs kept playing him because, well, Mike Priefer is a terrible special teams coach who has no idea how to field a good unit. Until Nick Novak proves for a full season that he’s better than a 65% field goal kicker I don’t trust any decision the Kansas City Chiefs make in regards to special teams that goes against my own better judgment.

Well, when Barth becomes a kicker somewhere else hitting 90%, Carl will have to defend the fact that everyone except him likes Barth more.

I'm Sure He'll Figure Out A Way
After all, he’s found a way to explain away most of his mistakes and his lack of results for the last 14 years.

Why didn't he kick 90% for us?
He would have won the job.
Lets not make more of him than he is. The two guys were dead even. Better to go with the more experienced FG Kicker in that case.

Feely?

I'm still pissed we passed over Mason Crosby in the draft
Seriously, since Lowery, we haven’t had a reliable kicker.*
*Including Tynes!

Stoyanovich
He was decent…including one season where he hit 96. So was Morten Andersen (two seasons over 80).

The youth movement only applies selectively
I was a big fan of Barth. I am befuddled with the choice to take Novak instead.
He’s kicked 65% on 20 attempts, not so hot. I like that in 69 kick off attempts, he has managed to get 1 touchback.
I mean, what kind of veteran leadership does a kicker provide anyway? Experience shmexperience… this stinks like a bag of smashed assholes.

Where Does One Come Across A Bag Of Smashed Assholes? :)
I hear you, brother…unbelieveable choice by the Chiefs. I haven’t seen a single thing Novak does that’s better than Barth. His kickoffs were shorter, his missed field goals were further off and his track record in the NFL indicates he’s not a good kicker.
If this fails, this should cost Priefer and whoever else made this decision their job.

!["On a warm, sun-filled summer afternoon, Barth and Cox shared the path they each took in their NFL journey with those in attendance [at the HSPD program]. Representing three school districts, students from East, Hickman Mills, Raytown, Raytown South and Ruskin high schools then asked questions of these NFL gladiators. Following the Q&A session, the HSPD [High School Player Development] participants concluded this week-long program with a spirited 7-on-7 competition."
