Wax -vs- Razor: An Interesting Perspective
"Unlike most teams with no chance to win and in desperate need of an overhaul, the Chiefs decided to go for the full bikini wax rather than shaving the sensitive areas repeatedly with a rusty razor (see the post-Gruden Raiders or the post-Esiason Bengals). "
I thought this evaluation of the team was pretty spot on, but most of all I loved the idea of the Raiders and rusty razor blades being used together.

Fairly good article
from a non-fan. I liked this
Bowe put up great numbers in 2007 as a rookie, and thanks to his size, speed, and focus it was not an aberration. He will likely be the best WR in the AFC West in 2008 and beyond.
But I think Neil Smith played DE, not DT and I wholeheartedly disagree with his assessment of Waters.

There were definitely some things wrong.
I disagreed with the Waters thing too and don’t honestly don’t remember if Neil Smith was DT or DE.
Overall I thought it was pretty fair, and (bonus) I didn’t want to shoot myself after I read it.

When I said "I think"
I was speaking figuratively. I know he was a DE. However I didn’t know this
There was a rule created in his name. The “Neil Smith” rule prevents a defensive lineman from flinching to induce a false start penalty on the offense. Enacted in 1998.

Yep
He was a DE in th 3-4 that we used during the Schottenheimer years, so he is bigger than a 4-3 DE because he was more of an inside guy.
I remember the Neil Smith rule. He caused SOOO many false starts with that flinch it wasnt even funny.

Even though DT was technically a LB
I can’t really remember seeing him play off the line, so wasn’t our “3-4” then really just a weird 4-3 with one DT and 3 DE’s =)

and he was damn good at it
I think it’s an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty now… attempting to cause a false start by flinching on the D-line. I still see it called a few times a year… but nobody is as good at it as Neil was… I think DT had it down pretty good too.

Speaking of causing false starts....
I saw an interview with the old Colts player Art Donovan a few years ago. He said that they played a game the day after the circus was in town on the same field. He said they would pick up the elephant crap and throw it on the hands of the lineman. When they flinched, he’d pop them in the head and get a false start penalty. He just giggled when he told that story. I wish I could have seen that game…..
