Chiefs Sign Jay Feely
That's right...FIRST, my fellow Pride denizens!!!
Hope that Feely's leg problems were overblown...if so, it's a nice pickup (although I still like Connor Barth). But then again, as I've said before, average kickers are a dime a dozen and it's hardly a major scavenger hunt to find some old vet tooling around somewhere who could step in if you've got a spot that desperately needs filling.
Wonder what Mike Vanderjagt's up to these days? (Update: According to his website, all meaningful events in Mike Vanderjagt's life apparently came to an end in 2006...so I suppose that's the "Where are they now?" trivia question for the week).
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Awwww yeah…that’s the instincts from the intel background kicking in. If I can beat CNN to a writing a story on a major world event, I can damn sure beat you guys :)

Vanderjagt
Last I heard, Vanderjagt was kicking poorly in the Canadian League.

w00t!
Sorry Barth… I was pulling for you man.
Do we keep kickers on the practice squad? I still think Barth can make it in this league, it just doesn’t look like it will be this year.

We Can
When we got rid of Medlock we tried to put him on the practice squad but he ended up with the Rams (where he sucked, of course).

He didn't go to the Rams until this year did he?
I think he just stayed unemployed last year, which is a strange choice to make if you were offered a practice squad job.

Yes
I think he was insulted or something that we offered him the practice squad stop…douche-rocket.

I'm Pretty Sure He Was With The Rams Last Year
I think they kept him inactive, though.
And yes, I get the idea that the kid’s kind of a dumbass.

Maybe not for a kicker
You could just wait to see if a kicker gets hurt in pre-season or goes down for a few weeks during the season.

I wonder if this is as our guaranteed K
or if he is brought in merely to compete with Barth. You’d have to think Novak is gone, although I think that it is a possibility that Barth is still our K when we open up the regular season.

According to Herms press conference
He is “competing” with the other two today and tomorrow and then tomorrow, one of them would be cut and the remaining two would “compete” in the St. Louis game and they would make the pick then.
I suppose that means that if the one that they keep along with Feelys kicks a 60 yarder and Feely misses a couple of extra point attempts, that they would stay up all night and make a decision from there.
I just cant see them signing Feely and him not being the guy they take into the regular season.

You got that assessment about right, I think
Feely’s numbers from last year would make most kickers’ jobs secure, I would think. So part of the tryout is whether it’s too good to be true. And that the injury/bruise is better. I also understand that Feely’s mouth and Parcell’s principles weren’t going to be compatible. But I think it was you, DJ, who replied in another thread — “Who cares? He’s a kicker!” You could put him in his own locker room in the parking lot if you needed to.

Nobody talks to the kicker anyway
They’re either afraid of jinxing him or pissed at him for costing them a game.
I suppose I’d have a chip on my shoulder too if you made me sit on the bench all night and then expect me to jump up and kick a 55 yarder with the game riding on my shoulders.
But who cares! He’s a kicker!

Ehhhhhhhh
I dont like his kickoffs, especially if his leg is injured at all…we will see Thursday I assume…
(And YES, i realize all of my posts subjects are similar “Ehhhhh”, “I agree” “Yes” and so on…)

Remember the last time we brought in a kicker solely because he was good at kickoffs?
Lin Elliott was brought in because he was good at kickoffs. Too bad he sucks at AFC Championship game winning Field Goals. I think I’d rather have someone that was good at the later than be able to kick it 5 yards deeper.

What, Lin Elliott?
You mean Lin Elliott, right? Why can’t we say Lin Elliott? Is Lin Elliott a killing word like in “Dune”? What’s wrong with saying Lin Elliott?
Sorry, but I don’t believe in shunning people 10 years after the fact. He was a horrible kicker, sure, and I thought the Chiefs were stupid for signing him originally (because he was horrible with the Cowboys too) but Steve Bono (3 INTs), Paul Hackett and Marty Schottenheimer were as responsible for that loss as Elliott. How do you go up against the worst rushing defense in the league with Indianapolis that’s giving up 4.4 yards to your running back in the game and not just cram the ball down their throats in a 10-7 game? Especially when you’re stuffing their running game and their QB can’t throw either?
