Chiefs Look Lackadaisical Against Last Year's Losers
What progress Kansas City Chiefs fans saw in the first two preseason games was completely dashed by the Miami Dolphins tonight in a 24 to 0 loss.
Don't look for any semblance of progress by the Chiefs in their third preseason game- there wasn't any.
The Miami Dolphins, 1-15 last season, played smarter, faster and harder in virtually every facet of the football game. In fact, a Chiefs fan would be hard pressed to find any series of plays on offense or defense to applaud. Despite three turnovers by the Dolphins (the Chiefs had four), the offense was not able to generate any points.
But you know what? This is the preseason. You'd love to see progress, any progress, but I'm not calling for anyone's head. Our team is young, missing plenty of starting players due to injury and still learning a new offensive system under a new offensive coordinator. To expect anything beyond major growing pains, especially early on, is setting yourself up for disappointment. The preseason is too small a sample to garner any solid analysis.
Breathe deep, let it out and look forward to next week against the St. Louis Rams.
Patience. Patience. Be patient. Please?
Box score is here.

No really I would like to see
Some progress, but it seems like we already went backwards. It is like Herm told Gailey to slow down the Offense because we scored too many points against Chicago. On the brightside Barry Richardson did not look any worse than the rest of the O-line.

You know
I’ll never forgive Vermeil for doing this to us. Wow. I just can’t believe he’s responsible for this disgusting display.

Everyone was saying how great the new offense was last week.
There is not hing good to say about this game. It stunk from top to bottom. But lets not overreact based on one game and forget what we’ve seen up till now.

Why the change though?
Things looked alot better in the first pre-season game than they do in the third. Shouldn’t there be even more signs of progress? This team looked like they went backwards.

Your guess is as good as mine
Hey, I don’t want to make excuses. They stunk it up. The reality is that what we saw tonight is probably a lot closer to what we can expect the rest of the season. We have a young team that makes mistakes and encounters new things for the first time and doesn’t know how to handle them. We’re going to see a lot of that this year.
The playcalling didn’t seem to be as varied as they were in other games. Even Brian Waters said they only had 2 running plays tonight because they aren’t wanting to show too much before the regular season.
Is it me or did Croyle not audible at all? I remember seeing Huard do it once and couldn’t recall seeing Croyle do it once.
All I know is this game was rough and its a good thing the next one comes on Thursday so we can forget all about this one.

Everybody will be learning a new scheme all over again next year.

No reason to go nuts here
Believe me, Im as frustrated as anyone is.
But as I always have to remind people, we know this team is not going to be great this year.
I have said all along that we should go 8-8 and Im not changing that after one horrendous game. If they start making a habit of playing like that, I might change my mind, but so far its just one game.
We’ve talked for months about what a genius Gailey is. Well, this is preseason and they don’t gameplan for anything and are trying to hide plays for the regular season plus we have a ton of guys out injured.
So either we were all idiots for believing in Gailey all this time or else this was just one lousy preseason game.

Clone Savage
The way Savage hustled to run down the Dolphin who made the last interception and wrangled him to the ground was awesome. When all was lost. Savage’s running was inspired, too.
Brandon Carr: Excellent interception.
Manderino: can’t block; can’t catch; can’t make the team.
Price: solid – on the team.
Kolby: good job. Would almost rather see him start over LJ. sorry
Allan: stone-handed his way off the squad
Linebackers: somebody please step up besides DJ
Dorsey: played okay — more importantly, he played.
Flowers: how many years has this guy played in the NFL? 4? 5? Seems to be hitting his prime. Yeah, he didn’t wrap up on one tackle, but he hung on to a foot; refuses to get beat long in non-obvious passing situations. He’s the real deal.

+1 spot on
I like Kolby, but I still want LJ starting… but yeah, Kolby looked good.
Can’t agree with you more on every other point.

MacIntosh injured his way off the team.
This proven way to play football, burn up the clock rest the defense was proven when? I would take the score at will offense anyday over Hermieball.

Pat Thomas
Thomas played okay. I can see him playing like Kawika Mitchell did his first years here, just tackling a lot, not making a lot of plays.
Oh, Kawika. How I miss you now.

Guys!!
Remember that the Dolphins are new too. New front office, only two coaches still there from last year. A lot of new faces in the lines(o and D) and lb’s.
Anyway, a friend of mine, a Chief fan, has been calling for the AXE on Herm, because even though, he is D oriented coach, he has destroy one of the premier NFL Offense(went he took the team) and had not improve, at all, the D. With this outing tonight, i’m going to avoid him for a while ; )
Ps don’t think he will be in the mood to talk about football, he will be more into the screeming ; )
I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(21 years and counting)

We can't
start talking about sacking Herm after a preseason game. It’s fruitless and if we want to actually make the argument later, it weakens our case. We need to support him for now.

That game was really hard to watch.
The only real highlights of the game was when Dantrell had the ball, I would like to have seen him or Kolby in that goal line situation.

I agree but
running the same play twice with LJ was the problem, IMO. it was obvious he was going straight and would try to jump the pile.

I recommend you go buy some Patriots gear
If you don’t see a future with this team, theres no reaon for you to continue watching.
Seriously.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but some people only come out of the woodwork when theres a chance to bash the team. Where are you when the team does well?

O, I'm here. Just take a look
and by the way, I said nothing last week.
The last couple of years really call into question the Kuharich/Edwards talent evaluation combo. Both were essentially run out of town in their last jobs. Given the inability of the Chiefs to find sufficient talent to plug gaps, one has to wonder if we’ve continued the unfortunate habit of hiring the over-the-hill…this time in the front office

Look, I’m siding with you on the “let’s not get wrapped up in this” even though I’m deathly afraid that what we saw tonight was not a freak preseason abberation but a preview of the offensive ineptitude we’re in for the entire year. I’m down with letting it slide. But you have got to stop with this “You’re not a fan!” stuff. We have no way of knowing from someone’s comments after… whatever that was… whether they’re a fan or not. I don’t want anyone calling you a flat-out Herm lover and apologist, but I also don’t think you should make judgments about someone’s fandom.
People would be here cheering if we won. And they have reason to be upset after tonight. We got blanked by the freaking Dolphins in a preseason game. While it doesn’t matter, it’s still kind of embarassing that our second team couldn’t get a field goal against their second string.
But let’s keep gloves up.

When Chiefs play in Florida
I know it is no excuse for the way the Chiefs played tonight. But is Florida a jinxed state for the Chiefs to play in? As I can only remember like once or maybe twice where the Chiefs have even won a game or even looked good in a game regular season or preseason game in the last 10 years.

189 total yards?
Are you serious? WTF???? All hope I have been mislead to gain has now vanquished. I couldnt watch the game, but come on i mean come on, I am now accepting wins as the exception and far from the norm. (sorry bout the late post I am bartendering in my final semester at LSU).

Also
Chiefs played the dolphins in miami not long ago before a hurricane and beat them pretty handily, I believe it was 2006(our last playoff year, if you wanna call it that).

Did we set a record? (AP not the Chiefs)
for longest thread? That thing hit 351 by game end. I think it bogged down the site it was so immense… it took me 5-6 tries to get in to one of the other fanposts to check the comments.
I must say I love The Official Arrowhead Pride Parade’s images.

This has all the ear marks
of Herm meddling in Chan Gailey’s offense. Ist game the play calling is great, the offense looks good. 2nd game Herm dials Chan back a notch and the offense doesn’t look so good. 3rd game and Chan is toeing the Herm Edwards line and the offense sucks. What else could it be? Or did the offense just go south by itself?
by G.L. on Aug 25, 2008 3:48 PM CDT 0 recs
That is what I thought!
Chan 24 points is not real football that is arena ball, dial it down a bit. There ya go Herm, back to 2007 levels,is that better?
