Perception vs. Reality Rant
Stats are sometimes very misleading. Croyle is ahead by a large margin over Thigpen in my book, although Thigpen is earning his stripes. I am not a fan of Croyle so this is no Homerism. I do hope he continues to take care of the ball and take what the defense is giving him. So far so good, and a big step since last year. He still looks calm and collected out there. The Pats “D” will definitely show where he is at. Also, i want to note that i am loving the wide receiver corps! Top to bottom those guys are playing hard except for Darling. I was at the game last night and i was not impressed with his effort or route running. He needs to attack the ball better, which leads me to believe that Franklin and Price are the ones that need to run with Bowe. Linebackers are struggling big time and I am not sold on the kickers. Could someone at least dial up Feely and get him in for a look? Coverage units looked pretty bad last night as well and they were not helped out by kickoffs that fell short. I am glad this is the preseason! We have time to keep getting these things worked out, but i would not be surprised to see some new faces to the roster show up in signings or waiver cuts. Chan should be praised for the improvement in offensive production even if they didn’t find the endzone much last night. The one thing I know, is I try to not get worried or excited about the preseason. I watched New Orleans last preseason look like they were in mid-season form and then when the regular season started, they went 0 and 4. Go figure?

I believe...
…Feely is a little nicked up and thats one of the reasons he was released…I dont know much about him but if he can send a kickoff into the endzone I’d like to have him…

What About the hard stats?
I’d like to see the opposite stats.
QBs: Passes blown (off mark and out of control)
RBs/ FBs: Dropped passes, fumbles, falling down without hits
WRs: Catchable balls dropped
OLine: Missed assignments / blocks
DLine: Blown out by OLine / missed tackles
LBs: Missed tackles / missed pass coverage assignments
DBs: Missed tackles / missed coverages
You know the rest and most likely have better stat ideas, but these may be better measurables because it speaks to quality of game effort.

Very good
Stats are nice, but the cold stats don’t tell you.
A perfect example is incompletions. Croyle was 7/13 against the Cards for a 53% completion rate. However, if you take into a account the balls he threw purposely out of bounds because receivers couldn’t get open, it goes up to 63%.
Some things you can only pick up by watching the game. How many incompletions hit the receivers in the hands and they couldnt pull them in and how many were 3 yards away from the intended receiver?
Alot of this stuff you only know by watching the game.

Thanks, Direckshun
Summaries that individuals are willing to take time compiling are a cool part of this site
- Octavien has 4 tackles, I believe
- Where are Thigpen’s rushing totals???? jk
If the linebackers are struggling, perhaps it’s because they’re thinking too much or just have ringing in their ears with Gun on ’em so much this year. I have hopes they will get straightened out with existing personnel.
Price, Franklin and Savage have all looked good as they were creating their numbers.
ChiefDJ did a quick fanpost showing that Turk currently leads the NFL in sacks. Save the keystrokes explaining why it’s not valid on a statistical level and just enjoy it. :)
