CB
I think Patterson has looked better than Brackenridge, and I think Patterson is a better special teams player than Tyron, so I’d switch those two.
On the DL, I think they’ll keep one more backup DE instead of 6 DT’s (I don’t care what they say, Boone is a DT)

I Think The Chiefs Will Keep Savage Over Battle, Though
Simply put, Savage has been impressive in preseason work so far, Battle hasn’t. Regardless of what his measureables say.

Personal choices
The posted list kept a lot of the current depth chart order. For my personal choices, I agree with the idea of keeping Savage and cutting Battle. Additionally, I would keep Price and cut Webb, although I’m basing a lot of that on one preseason game plus sketchy reports from River Falls. But Webb is in my tolerance box – not for behavior, but for lack of performance – so I’m ready to cut him loose.
I am pretty clueless about the cornerbacks once we get past the apparent top three. Mike Cox appears to have all but won the FB job. And I do think we’ll have a FB this year.

Merritt
And he can’t go to IR since the Chiefs haven’t even signed him. He’ll just never ink a contract.

In Fact, I Have No Idea Why We Drafted Him
The dude got injured in the Liberty Bowl and wasn’t on anyone’s radar. Even he didn’t show much interest in being an NFL football player, apparently.

Actually Gretz was saying at the beginning of camp
and pardon me, I can’t find the link, but he was saying the Thrum or Peterson was planning on signing him right before final cuts and moving him to PUP for the season – he definately indicated that they would sign him, just not until the end of preseason…
I agree with your comment below as well, I wouldn’t waste my time signing him…

Where are the battles, and how many spots?
Maurice Leggett, Tyron Brackenridge, Dimitri Patterson and Rashad Barksdale appear to be fighting for two CB spots.
Napoleon Harris, Weston Dacus, LeRue Rumph, E.J. Kuale, Oliver Hoyte, Steve Octavien and Aden Durde are probably battling for three LB spots.
Wade Smith, Edwin Harrison, Tre Stallings, Anthony Alabi, Ken Shackleford, Will Svitek, Travis Leffew and Rob Smith are competing for three OL spots.
Jeff Webb, Bobby Sippio, Kevin Robinson (PR), Maurice Price, Kevin McMahan, Jabari Arthur, Sergiori Joachim and B. J. Sams are competing for two WR spots.
Kevin Robinson, B.J. Sams or Dantrell Savage need to return kicks to make the team, imo.
Given the other talent, I think we only keep the two tight ends. Merritt may go through to some type of injured list. Gretz suggested some kind of quick signing immediately before a deadline so that the paperwork would all be in order to make the Merritt thing happen if they want to keep him for future consideration.
Have at it guys. I just wanted a list of names with a framework of numbers to look at as a starting point. The numbers per position are fairly representative as far as I can tell. But the last two or three roster spots could swing the totals for offense or defense depending on the overall quality of the players. i.e. We could keep an extra CB or something at the expense of a WR if we’re really trying to keep someone.

I agree mostly, but I think we need at least 3 TE's
especially with our 2 TE sets. I think we are gonna have to only keep 3 backs… Johnson, Battle, and Charles.

Um...
I think they’ll only have 6 LB’s and 3 RB’s. This will free up two more spots probably used on the OL and TE.

TEs on practice squad
I hear ya Vince and Dono. However, I’m thinking they’ll have the best luck sneaking the TEs through waivers to the practice squad. And if they keep a fullback, which seems pretty certain, they could get by with one TE during a game. You may be right about the LBs. Depends where our special teams players will come from, I imagine.

Ehhhh....
I duno about the RB thing…no matter who we keep I think Battle is definately at the bottom of that list. Smith, Charles and Savage ALL have more upside than Battle…
I disagree with your DL list, I would drop Lokey and include someone like Parker perhaps…
I duno that Leggett makes the team…he probly will but it seems like he has been too hit and miss for me…
I like it other than that…excited for the season

TE
I really think we will keep 3 active. I know putting one on the practice squad to keep waivers cleared is a good scenerio but if we really do run plenty of 2 TE sets I think they want a TE that can play special teams on the 53 man roster. Everything else is summed up real nicely by everyone.

2 TE sets
They were a big discussion point early, especially when we drafted two of them. I think it also stems from QB protection and the image of a power running game. I don’t remember any reports of 2 TE sets from camp, though. Maybe they weren’t reported, or maybe our lack of TEs in camp changed the initial plan. Also, if a FB emerges, that will cut down on the number of 2 TE sets.
Since Cottam appears to be a receiving threat as well as a blocker, maybe we’ll use that approach for 20% of the plays. Also depends how well the left side of our line performs and how well our backs can block. I’ll try to watch for that formation Saturday, but while our offense is using more stuff in preseason, I’m not convinced it’s exactly the same stuff we’ll see against the Patriots.
Ooo… One more point regarding the popular comment that we keep three. Is the third TE — presumably Allan — a better overall football prospect than one of the DL or LB or WR we’d have to cut in his place? That’s another reason I opted for just the two TEs. Good comments!

I thought for sure...
that I had heard at least SOME reports of 2 TE sets…
I am not saying you are wrong, just seems like I did…hmmm
Either way I think we keep 3 for sure, though I do not recall seeing Allans name in the Special Teams participants list so that could be a sign that we won’t…Idk just seems too risky for us to not…

Cox
I agree when Cox is starting there will be less need for two TE sets especially with his receiving skills….I think if we do keep 3 on the roster the third spot is pretty wide open. I know Allan is the vet of this team to make the third spot but I don’t know if he has showed he has the talent. Although I hear he is a damn good blocker. Just cant wait to see what we do tonight and the rest of the preseason regarding our TE’s and I hope Cottom continues to shine.

Agree with most of it.
I would just make a few corrections
— Patterson > Brackenridge. Simply put, Patterson has been a much better CB, plus he is a better special teams player. I love Brackenridge, but Patterson is a better player.
— Gunther Cunningham loves Oliver Hoyte, and I promise you that he will make this team. At least from everything I’ve read about him through Gretz. He should take the place instead of Nap Harris, IMO.
— On the D-Line, I bet we keep another DE. My money is on Trevor Johnson, but it could just as easily be Jason Parker. Whoever makes the team will likely take the place of Lokey. I like him, but he will likely be kicked out because of the numbers game. I bet he will be a PS player if no one else claims him.
— I think we will either add Sippio or Allan. I don’t think we will go short on WRs and TEs. Allan has really disappointed thus far, but he still has a lot of potential. And I love Sippio. Who we drop instead, though, is an interesting topic for discussion. I would say Battle, even though I love him.
Just some ideas…

Good thoughts!
The list of d-line people at the top is heavy on DTs and light on DEs. So a Parker could very well make the team. Turk looks to play more downs at DE this year, imo. Hoyte would be an interesting pick to stick with the team. As far as TEs, I think we try to keep our third on the practice squad, with Merritt on one of the injured lists.

The TE point makes sense.
I don’t think anyone will claim Allan or Merritt, and we will likely keep Allan on the PS and Merritt on the IR.

Who is kicker Aaron Elling?
This is just one kick, but he may be available later…
K Aaron Elling of the Raiders — He converted a 56-yard field goal on the final play of the first half. That would have broken injured regular Sebastian Janikowski’s franchise record had it come during the regular season. Elling won’t make the opening-day roster, but he made a convincing case for being re-signed if Janikowski is injured during the regular season.
