Your personal WR depth chart?
As it stands now. Let's see 'em!
Mine would be as follows (for now):
Bowe - Without a question, a potential Pro-Bowler.
Franklin - Strong debut as a rookie -- could the Chiefs find two immediate-impact WRs in consecutive years?
Darling/Price - This battle is too close to call.
Webb - Still trying to prove himself.
Sippio - On the footsteps of the 53-man roster.
Arthur - Came from nowhere to look pretty strong against Chicago.
McMahan - Established himself with good route-running in Chicago.
Joachim - 6'7" longshot from the middle of nowhere. Gotta love the measurables, but that's it.

Agree
Webb has had three? years to make it I think and hasnt done it. Sippio, unless he totally screws the team in the next two weeks, has earned the 5th spot. Robinson for the pratice squad.

Too early to tell
I haven’t even gotten to see Darling make a catch.

Whatever it is....
I think our receivers are highly underrated by the media… as is our QB. Seriously, though, I couldn’t cut Price, Sippio, or Robinson… I’m glad that’s not my job.

I'm guessing Robinson goes on PUP?
We’ll see, I guess. They say he’s going to start practicing soon.

agreed
and I’m glad that Chan has the Co-Jones to call pass play after pass play when the opposing D puts 8 in the box. We need to make them respect our pass game, and if they refuse, we need to outright prove it on the field.
I agree with Vince D that it’s too early to tell. I can give you my top 3, but 4 and 5 are going to have to roshambo for it… I need to see some more before I can figure it out.
1. Bowe
2. Darling
3. Franklin
4. Price/Webb
5. Sippio/Webb/Price
I think Robinson is hosed at this point due to his injury… he’s going to have a huge uphill battle. If he can prove invaluable in the return game, I would keep him as a 6th WR focusing as a returner only. But he’d better be spectacular. If not I’d try to PUP him (as Direkshun mentions below) or slip him in on the practice squad and see if he can filter in later on due to an injury in the normal WR group.

I heard an interview on 610 sports with B.J. Sams last night
Where he mentions that they have him penciled as a WR. If this is the case then the 6th would be B.J. unless Robinson can catch some playing time and show the coaching staff what they need to see to drop Sams, right?? Or would Sams be the fifth right now?

The operative word here is
“penciled.” As in “erasable.”
Can you fair catch a pass???

Agreed
But realistically he’ll either be carried as a WR or a RB won’t he? And even if Charles or Savage does kick returns, Sams or Robinson will be kept for punt returns, right? I think they keep 6 WRs with the 6th being either Sams or Robinson… assuming whomever does punt returns is Sams or Robinson. Charles or Savage could settle the question by being able to punt return and kick return…

I'm catchin' what you're throwin'
Yes, it’s also my understanding that Sams would be on the offensive side of the ball and not a cornerback or anything. I believe Sams participated in individual drills with the WRs today as they got ready to break camp. Haven’t heard him doing that before.
Hopefully Robinson can show us what he’s got in the last couple of preseason games. I also hope Savage gets a shot at punts. Sounds like anyone who is going to specialize in returning kicks needs to do both types. Charles won’t be doing it this week because of his shoulder. So Savage should get a fair number of carries at running back along with Smith this week.
Bottom line is that if Savage is going to be part of the 53, I think he’s going to have to return punts as part of what he brings to the table. It’s hard for me to imagine them keeping Savage AND Sams or Robinson. I don’t think Sams is the answer and the Robinson PUP for the required 6 (?) weeks makes a lot of sense to me, which allows things to shake out.

Jeff Webb
As a guy who doesn’t post much and usually just reads(I’m nowhere near as smart as you guys when it comes to football), I think Jeff Webb just sucks personally. The dude hasn’t really ever shown anything and Herm’s love affair with him shouldn’t save his job. In my opinion, Webb should be on the chopping block.
My depth chart
1. Bowe
2. Darling
3. Franklin
4. Price
5. Sippio
Yes, I'm still alive. Sorry to disappoint you.

Webb isn't awful
it just seems like he has limited uses. I shook his hand and so on after a game last year and he is tiny…he just doesn’t fit with the type of reciever I like. He has made some good, timely catches but nothing that Sippio couldnt do just as well or better.
1. D-Bowe
2. Darling
3. Franklin
4. Price
5. Sippio
Put Sippio in the games in the first few weeks and put Robinson on PUP. That gives Sippio 6 weeks to prove his worth before he could be released to clear up a spot for Robinson.

I know I am, like, way late to the party, here is my depth chart...
1) Bowe
2) Franklin
3) Darling (although he is disappointing me…)
4) Price (starting to love this guy)
5) Webb
6) McMahan
7) Sippio
8) Joachim
9) Arthur
I would have had Sippio at 5 prior to the AZ preseason game, but he dropped like three passes. That can’t happen when his speed is already a detractor. I personally like McMahan…
by rockchalk on Aug 18, 2008 2:02 PM CDT 0 recs
yeah, that may have ended his stint with KC
I just finished watching the game (tivo’d from last night on NFLN). I was surprised to see Sip let two balls slip through his fingers that he should have caught… one of which would have been a TD catch, the other on a drive in the 4th quarter. I don’t blame him for the tip/int late in the 4th, that was just another bad pass from Thigpen.
I like Sip, but I think he played his way off the team Saturday. Especially when McMahan and Price had great games and Webb just did enough to not hurt himself.
I have to say I agree 100% with your rankings at this point in the preseason.
