I should have saved last year’s camp depth chart to see how it compared to the regular season. I may have it somewhere actually.

Some funky stuff there
What the heck is Jackie Battle doing 2nd on the depth chart?? I can’t believe he’ll even make the team, much less be ahead of Kolby Smith.
John Paul Foschi ahead of Michael Allan on the TE depth chart. Makes me wonder if Allan is going to be around much longer.

Yep
Which is why I wouldn’t look too much into it.

I read somewhere
that Battle looked like the real deal, and was easily the second-best back in camp behind LJ. The same source also said that Foschi is just around to keep Michael Allan sweating a little bit.
For the life of me, I can’t remember where I read that, though.

+1 on Battle.
It was on WPI, I think Cliff’s Notes little section.
Anyways, back to Battle. I thought he looked great last season, and while I would certainly prefer both Kolby Smith and Jamaal Charles to make the team, I would love to have Battle make it as well.

Remember Battle's TD run?
against Detroit? There weren’t very many good things to talk about after that game, but Battle flat out destroyed some Lions’ linebacker in the hole, and ran over him for a TD. I agree that we will carry 4 RB’s on the active roster. We are going to be running the football a lot this season. LJ and Battle could be the bruisers, Kolby is a versatile backup to spell LJ or fill in as starter in case LJ gets dinged (I don’t think Battle is ready to be the starter if LJ goes down) and Charles is a shoe-in (unless he fumbles every touch in the preseason games) the guy has been way too exciting in camp to not make the team. ignore the star, come here for all your info ;)

After last year...
I bet we will consider carrying 4 RB’s. We got bit in the butt last year when we let Bennett walk and kept Priest. Like PV said, we should be pounding the ball a lot this year. If Battle is showing as good as they say he is, we should keep him with Kolby and Jamaal. I would rather do that than have to bring Dantrelle Savage (sp?) off the practice squad halfway through the season.
This seems like a good problem to have to me.

Here is the '07 camp depth chart
Lots of changes there. Anyone remember Rod Gardner? First round pick….

Funny to see
Samie Parker 1st; Dwayne Bowe 6th
Bowe probably hadn’t reported yet? Or barely?
And I’d forgotten how they conveniently left off the QB position due to the “fairness” of the competition.

I think he had
Because LJ isn’t on there and he obviously hadn’t reported.

Depth Chart
Does anyone else read the kansas city stars coverage of the chiefs. They mentioned a few quick hits on the scrimmage with the vikings that were as much uneventful as much as they were irrelevant. Daily the star puts out horrible coverage and half the time they don’t even get it right. Today they mentioned Bernard Pollard but said he was a linebacker. I know this is tedious but they make mistakes like this on a daily basis. Then they mentioned Jamaal Charles and basically wrote there is no chance this kid could ever be a starter. Come on, the kid just got here and is a great talent with big upside. He might not ever be a starter but give the kid a chance and stop reporting this crap to the people of Kansas City. I am extremely tired of it, and think god I have arrowhead pride because if I didn’t my head might explode.
Enough venting already. On to the depth chart. It is very interesting that battle is listed as the number two but he has an uphill battle to climb to make this team. I wish him the best of luck. The guy I am most excited about is Pat Thomas. I know it’s early and things will change, but the Chiefs and there coaches are giving this guy every chance in the world to win the starting middle linebacker job. He seems like a great athlete who can run side line to sideline. Hopefully Gunther has found lightning in a bottle with this kid. I cannot wait to watch him next week against the bears.

Yes,
this preseason will certainly be very interesting. A couple of things I’ll really be watching are Richardson/McIntosh at RT and Flowers/Surtain/Carr at CB. As for Battle, I have no idea if he’ll stay where he is or not, but the competition should make him or whomever ultimately gets the spot better.
With the Star, you just have to accept that there’s going to be errors, and rumors made up about the team. There’s also Whitlock, but I don’t have enough time to write what I really think of him (and it’s probably NSFW). The only way to figure out the real Chiefs news is to read some combination of all the major sports sites, with a very liberal does of the Chiefs blogosphere thrown in. It’s gotten to the point where I check ESPN, NFL.com, SI, CBS Sportsline, Arrowhead Addict, Arrowhead Pride, Bobgretz.com, the UWRF Chiefs site, the mothership, and WPI daily.

We are probably going...
to take 4 running backs on the 53 man roster. I think the coaches really like Battle to be that 3rd and short back. Charles is the home run/screen threat, Smith is the scat back. And of coarse LJ will be the work horse. I think they should put Taylor at RG! They always say he is talented, but he is undersized for a tackle. If he’s more like a guard play him at guard. I’m very weary of Jones at that position. Its like we took from peter to give to paul on that position considering I don’t see how he going to be much better than Welborne. I guess he is younger, but who knows I could be completely wrong.
