Dorseys contract
i got this from the kcstar When is dorsey going to get signed?!?!?!
Chiefs president Carl Peterson challenged Glenn Dorsey to encourage his agent, Joel Segal, to work harder to get the fifth overall pick signed.
Peterson said that as of this morning, the sides were not close to a deal and had temporarily suspended contract talks. Dorsey is the highest unsigned draft pick. Peterson said Segal wanted to wait until more first-round picks had signed before they proceeded.
"Our comment to Glenn Dorsey’s agent was: Look it, since you don’t want to negotiate, we’re going to go to camp and get started," Peterson said. "When you want to negotiate, you know how to reach us, so give me a phone call."
Peterson said Dorsey had promised team officials he would be in camp on time. He has until 9 a.m. Friday to keep his promise.
"He promised me, and he’s going to lose his bet that he’s going to be here on time," Peterson said. "Glenn knows he needs to be here; I think Glenn wants to be here."

I am not assigning blame here, but
this is getting contentious and public. Every time this has happened, it has turned out badly. Very badly.

I'm going to play a little devil's advocate here.
I love to bash CP as much as the next fan, but, I think he deserves some credit for getting every single pick, save for Dorsey, and including a pick in the top half of the 1st round, signed before camp. Give this a few days and see where we are then. If we get into August and this is dragging on then bring out the flaming pitchforks. Yeah, I hate when he goes public, but the rhetoric isn’t that ugly YET.
Out of picks #5 through #13, only the 10th pick is signed as of right now. That’s one of nine. It’s somewhat understandable to see where the market heads. Usually, once one or two sign, the slots get better defined, and the dominoes fall pretty fast.
Remember, the #3 pick is a QB (Ryan), which means inflated money, and the #4 pick is a RB and involves the Raiders, which also means it might be a stupid contract. If the agent’s first proposal represents too large a departure from what #5 got last year, and too small a drop from what #4 got, it might be prudent to wait a bit.
I guess my only point is, let’s wait a few days before this turns into a “OMG, it’s John Tait all over again!” and “Carl Peterson sux!!” Even if he does.
What can I say? I can’t believe I’m defending him either. Call me Bob Gretz.

Agreed
As much as I can’t stand Peterson, I think the last couple of years he has done well at getting guys signed. There are a ton of teams going to camp without there first pick. As for going public. The media is asking questions and wants to know when he will be signed. He gave an honest and matter of fact answer. I agree fully on giving this a few days and don’t believe there will be a distraction.

Agreed
Unfortunately, the Cardinals gave last year’s #5 overall, Levi Brown, a HUGE contract. Probably overpaid, in my opinion. 6 yrs/$62 million.

dorsey
I dont mind Dorsey sitting for as long as necessary to get a respectable contract
he is a big boy who has had injury problems ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=vqiLlOybz9s )
i assume he’s working out and will be in prime condition to step in when ready
ps. I PRAY YOU ARE NOT THE NEXT RYAN SIMS BUST FOR US, BE WORTH MORE THEN A LAST ROUND PICK IN THE NFL PLEASE ( i have faith in you dorsey if you are reading this… )

I've heard the injury issue before
But I don’t think he’s ever missed a game due to injury.

re
good respose, he seems like quite the warrior, i expect high things (i also expect our entire D-Line to dominate this year, brian johnston’s measurables with the rest of the group should destroy many O-lines)
when the offensive line isnt thinking about our defensive line they should worry about the DJ blitz!!!!!

re: Brian Johnston
I understand the measurables, speed, etc….but there has to be a reason he lasted as long as he did.
I know that’s a lame response but, since I haven’t seen him play, I’m trusting that NFL coaching staffs would have recognized something in him.

Lasted that long
I think he lasted that long because he came from a smaller school. He hasn’t yet proven himself against the type of players he will face. I have high hopes for him, but it is untested optimism. If he makes the transition, we’ve made a great steal. If he doesn’t, we haven’t given up a high draft pick. He’s going to be one of the more exciting stories to watch. I think we got great steals in both Johnston and Carr.

some of those coaching staffs are as good at evaluating talent as CP :)

See
I told you he said he’d be there on time… :P Shame on me for buying it…
I think as soon as Dorsey’s agent is ready to talk, things will move pretty quickly based on what we’ve seen so far this preseason.
