Chiefs Sign WRs Joachim and Marshall to Two-Year Deals
Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms of two-year contracts with WRs Sergio Joachim and Timon Marshall. No other terms of the agreements were made public, as per Chiefs policy.
Joachim (6-5, 205) played for the University of Central Florida, tallying 19 receptions for 236 yards during his 2007 senior season. The North Miami, Florida native nabbed a team-high nine receptions against Tulsa (10/20/07).
Joachim graduated from North Miami High School in 2003 after earning letterman status in each of his four years as a WR.
Marshall (5-10, 188) joins the Chiefs after starring for the Los Angeles Avengers and the Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League. He also joined the Chicago Bears for training camp a year ago. Marshall led the AFL in all-purpose yards in both 2006 and 2007, compiling a two-year total of 5,784 yards. In 2006, the Ottawa, Kansas native became the first player in AFL history to record 1,300 receiving yards and 1,300 return yards in the same season.

That makes 84 on the roster that actually count
We still need four cuts.

But at least...
We got Sergio and Timon signed before training camp starts.
Whew! I know we’ve all been wondering. Now we can relax.

Also
I bet at least one current WR gets cut today. Or tomorrow.
We currently have 11 WRs on the roster.

Smells Like The End For Bobby Sippio
Wish the guy had gotten a chance to play.

The Reason I Say Sippio
Is that he’s 27…older than the other likely roster cuts at receiver, close enough to the end of his prime that the Chiefs may figure they’ve seen his ceiling.

Fan favorite
At this point I believe he stays around. Being a fan favorite won’t keep you on the team but it could get you into training camp.
Look at Boomer Grigsby.

Hmm...
Kind of strange that unknown receivers were signed to two year contracts instead of one year contracts. I wonder why?

Small Or No Signing Bonus?
Two year contracts are pretty meaningless if there’s no guaranteed money involved. They can then be cut during camp with no harm to next year’s cap.

Yep
Joachim is clearly there for his size. 6-5, 205 lbs. Wonder what his 40 time is. Doesn’t sound like he got a lot of action in college though. Sounds like a practice squad project to me.

I don't care so much about his 40 time
I’m more interested in his hands. 6’5” sounds like a nice size for a possessional receiver.

Whats with this Sippio Man Crush?
With the total lack of weapons they had last season he would have been out there if he was any good. He was an Arena League player. If stats in that league meant anything then Tony Graziani would be a superstar. I hope he is as good as everyone says he is but its time he showed it. I love the Chiefs but if I hear another word about this guy I’m gonna snap.

Which Guy? Sippio? Bobby Sippio?
He’s the greatest receiver in the history of the NFL if anyone gives him a chance. He’s got a vertical leap of 40 feet. During games his body secretes a chemical that makes his skin like Crazy Glue. He can outrun bullet trains and he was taught by Shaolin monks on how to give a stiffarm that would punch through a brick wall. Bobby Sippio is perhaps the greatest untested athlete in the history of the universe.

I heard
that Bobby Sippio defeated Chuck Norris in unarmed combat, while blind-folded.

What's up with the roster?
The roster still shows 82 people and does not show these two. It seems strange they signed these guys yesterday and still haven’t put them on the roster. They are usually added the same time as the announcement. If we really have added these two, that means there are 4 guys left to cut and they leave for camp today. Suppose they’ll tell them at the airport or wait until they get to river falls?

New guys added
They’ve finally added the new receivers to the roster. Now there are 84.
