Jamaal Charles

I really like Jamaal charles, The kid is fast as can be..Plus i think hes a great change of pace back to compliment LJ. He average just about 6.3 hards per carry at Texas and ran a 4.3 something at the combine.

But my question here is does anyone think he will be out kolby smith for the #2 back...nothing against Smith, he did a good job while LJ was out but i think charles has got a lot of talent.

And if he does beat out Smith for the #2 back how much do you think he will get to contribute on offense?

He could

PVChiefsfan made a good point a day or so ago – the Chiefs want Smith to be the main runner if LJ goes down. Charles really can’t take 20-25 carries a game.

Charles may be #2 on the depth chart but the Chiefs need Kolby Smith as much as they do Charles.

Welcome to AP by the way, if I haven’t done it already.

Now that I think about it though

If I remember correctly, it was the “experts” who claimed Charles was not capable of 20-25 carries…I expect Charles to see more action than Smith this year…of course, if Johnson goes down, Smith will take his share, but we’ll still see a lot of Charles

I have said all along

That I think Kolby will remain LJs backup, but Jamaal Charles will be used a lot in 2 back sets ala Maurice Jones Drew.

LJ is still the Bell Cow back, when he needs a breather, Kolby comes in. But there will be times that LJ and Charles or Kobly and Charles will be in the backfield at the same time.

Im...curious

to see why Charles can’t handle the load…..He did it in college why can’t he in the NFL…...the kid is good

Charles has way more talent than Smith…..and if LJ went down I bet that Charles starts but splits carries with Smith…..we drafted this guy to back up Lj and be a threat but we also drafted him as a \n insurance policy….in case Lj goes down again…..

Out of the backfield

Does anyone know how good Jamaal is at catching the ball out of the backfield? That’s never been one of LJ’s strong points and could make Jamaal very valuable as a 3rd down back (if he’s good at it)

supposedly excellent

he’s supposed to have great hands. Of course anyone in comparison to LJ is going to look like Jerry Rice. But I remember that being a big point for using him as a split back/change of pace/3rd and long kinda guy… he’s supposed to have great hands.

Charles

Will be a dangerous receiving threat in the flats this year, all three years at texas his yards per catch average was between 10.2 and 11.7, these stats are based on small samples around 20 catches per year, but the guy is fast and elusive and will make defenders miss in the open field, which is the perfect compliment to LJ

very excited to see charles in the lineup. everyone talked about his elusiveness, but i saw him break plenty of tackles along the way to the end zone. his shoulders and hips are shifty and the more carries he got in college the more effective he was. look at the 4th quarter in last years Nebraska game and also Oklahoma State game, the kid doesnt slow down. the only thing that bothers me, or that i question, is the fumble-ittis that he had the past couple of years. as far as his recieving, in my opinion, he has marshall faulk abilities to take a swing or screen pass to the house. i believe we will like what we see and considering that we got him the 3rd round he was a steal
