Who's most pressing to get in camp?

I have thought about this awhile this morning and would like to open it up for discussion.  Although Dorsey is our #1 overall pick and will help make this defense what Gun has been licking his lips for, who is more pressing to get into camp on time.

Glen Dorsey or Brandon Albert?

Both have their pros and cons, so what are your thoughts?

Personally I believe it is imperative to get Albert into camp the first day, only from the standpoint of having a chance for the Offensive line to have more time to become "one" unit together.  In no way am I suggesting a slight on Dorsey and his importance however. Since we were so poor with line play last year and have up to 4 new starters (position wise) I think it is most important to get this group their courting time.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Definitely Albert

Then I actually think Flowers is more important from a days-missed aspect than Dorsey, assuming he’s a starting CB.

Agreed...

Albert, then Flowers, then Dorsey… Albert needs time with the rest of the O-Line, but Flowers just needs as much time as he can get if he’s starting… Of the new picks that may be starting/playing a significant amount of time he’s the one that worries me the most – everyone else has someone next to them to fall back on, Flowers will be on an island (unless you count safeties as help – I see them more as insurance)...

Also Agreed...

Albert’s learning a new position, he definitely needs to be in camp before Flowers or Dorsey. No real preference on which one signs after that. Flowers I suppose.

Supporting the lesser of two evils is still supporting something evil.

I didnt even consider Flowers

My bad…but you guys brought up a good point!

Flowers

I really think flowers is going to have to make it to camp on time…He should be the next draft pick signed, If we dont want him getting burned by WRs he needs to make it on time

by KcPriest31 on Jul 21, 2008 3:57 PM CDT   0 recs

A lot of the DB position

is based on athleticism. So if he’s getting burned it won’t be a result of missing camp.

I would say Albert is the most pressing because his involvement depends a lot on continuity from the others on the line.

CB needs development of communication and feel

Basically I agree, primetime. Although I think a new CB would benefit from as much time as possible to “know” things like when they’ve got help and when they don’t. Zone overloads. Hand-off points on slants. Blitzing schemes. Intercept-for-a-TD celebration dance. And just getting a feel for the teammates in your area.

Part of the “know” is having it down stone cold. We hear a lot of second year players saying they feel like they won’t have to “think” as much and will just be able to react. That split second hesitation when you’re wondering whether you’ve got help over the top is a make-or-break amount of time for a corner, I assume.

"Intercept-for-a-TD celebration dance"

Would be very nice to see us do a lot of those this year! Since someone will replace Dunn in letting LJ jump into his arms on offensive TD’s, maybe Dorsey or Tank could be the go to guy for the Defense.

Flowers

Flowers really needs to be there. Athleticism can only get you so far in the pros. The “skilled” positions need the most reps.

by cmpotter on Jul 22, 2008 6:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I’m not so concerned with Flowers as I am with Dorsey or Albert because Carr played lights out during OTAs… it just might make him sign a little quicker if he sees Carr’s OTA play transfering to the practice field… though I’m sure Flowers will sign next so they know what they have to offer for Dorsey and Albert.
Our main problems last year were both lines… it doesnt matter if you have the top running back or QB if your OL sucks they suck… and the same for safeties, linebackers, or cornerbackers… If you don’t have pressure on the DL, then they all suffer.

speaking of cap money, will there be any more

cuts from last years players that would free up any more cash? Or do we need to free up any more?

by Lanier63 on Jul 22, 2008 2:02 PM CDT   0 recs

If I'm not mistaken

We have the most cap room in the league. $30+ million, however I believe that number was pre-Flowers/Albert.

Brandon Albert, then young corners

This o-line needs to gel quickly, if there is to be any success at all this season. The young corners so they can learn the scheme. I have said it before I believe that if Dorsey is the talent he is touted to be he will catch up quickly. Of course young corner success depends on pass rush. I would still believe Albert is the most important. I think Albert will show to camp no matter what contract status is at this time, at least I think I just read that.

by Eric Allen on Jul 22, 2008 7:31 PM CDT   0 recs

I don't know the rules concerning that

Does he have to be signed to participate? If not it would be a wonderful thing to just have EVERYONE show up and sign when they sign, but I think, for some reason, they aren’t allowed to particiapte unless signed…

by KCFanatic on Jul 23, 2008 10:30 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I was on the side

of thinking the rule states you have to be signed to participate in camp… I could be wrong.

by Lanier63 on Jul 23, 2008 12:29 PM CDT   0 recs

Brandon Flowers just signed a 4 year deal!

Who will be and should be next? I think this was if not the most, the second most important signing before camp…The guy I want in camp on time is Albert…Yay Flowers!

Jack Harry reported that

Branden Albert and the Chiefs were close to a agreement last night at ten, who knows how much Jack really knows though. I hope he is right.

by Eric Allen on Jul 23, 2008 4:06 PM CDT   0 recs

Jack Harry

If the news reflected Carl in any kind of positive light, Jack wouldn’t report it if he didn’t have to.

by WolfFan on Jul 23, 2008 4:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

That is funny but a truth...

Albert is most likely already signed and we just haven’t heard. Jack doesn’t ever miss a chance to put Carl down, so it MUST be true.

11 of 12 draft picks signed.

After all is said and done, and the smoke clears I think all of our young guys should be in camp in full force. Regardless if they were the first draft pick or the last. These kids need to show and prove what their made of. What they did in college does’nt matter any more. It’s all about what you do when game time rolls around. I truthly belive the Chiefs can raise up to the top of the AFC west, and these kids will be the backbone to our success.

by Derrick*58*Liveson! on Jul 26, 2008 3:17 PM CDT   0 recs

Totally agree

I hope in five years we can look back on this draft and say that.

by primetime 07 on Jul 26, 2008 3:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Kool-Aid

I don’t think it will take 5…we’re getting that playoff win for Tony before he retires.

by PVChiefsfan on Jul 26, 2008 3:53 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed
  1. of years is arbitrary, but yeah, getting one for Tony would be very nice.

by primetime 07 on Jul 26, 2008 4:08 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Lets get one for Tony...

Agreed with everyone, Tony deserves a ring, time is flying by.it was only couple of years when I remember we had the best O line in football. Will,Willie,Brian,Casey…Lets also not forget those great guys that did great things for our team. Go Chiefs! Now, tomorrow, always!
