Imagine San Diego without the Chargers. It was easy enough to do 50 years ago, when the professional football team not only wasn't here, it didn't exist. But it does now, and there's a growing chance it will exist somewhere else very soon – perhaps as early as next year.
The Chargers aren't firing this warning shot across our leaky bow. I am. The handwriting, man. It's the size of Texas.

As much as I hate the Chargers
that is still sad. I can’t imagine how upset I’d be if the Chiefs moved away. And if the salary-cap free season happens, we will get hosed just like the Chargers (as will the rest of our division).

It wouldn't be the same.
A former boss of mine is/was a huge Oilers fan back in the day (he still wears his Oilers gear), and he followed the franchise to Tennessee and is now a huge Titans fan. There is no other team above the Chiefs for me, but I don’t know if my loyalties would carry over to the next team, especially depending on the state to which they moved.

I don't know if I could cope if the Chiefs left
Would you still be a Chiefs fan if they left?

They wouldn't really be the Chiefs anymore would they?
Look how much the Royals organization changed when the Kaufmans sold it. There is more to a franchise than just what city they are in and what their name is. There is a whole team culture and how they relate to the community.
Does anyone really relate the Baltimore Ravens to the old Cleveland Browns? Even before they made the new Browns? I certainly never have.
If the Chiefs moved from K.C. or ever had different owners than the Hunts, they wouldn’t be the same Chiefs I grew up knowing. They’d essentially be a different team, and the only team I root for is the K.C. Chiefs.

so
what is the problem in san diego? i haven’t been aware of the situation there at all. quallcomm is not some decrepit old stadium why can’t they stay there?

eh.
i could care less really. their elected government isn’t doing anything to help them and neither really are the owners. they have plenty of other things to do in san diego than go watch football. what can we do here in KC? not much.
have you seen my baseball?

that's pretty much it.
these SD people are close to the ocean so they can do that, they can go to the mountains to ski, they can go to frikkin vegas… there’s just so much stuff to do within a driveable distance that it’s already unfair.
let the rabbits wear glasses and save the carrots!

Oh, but wait, there's more!!
Movie theaters are also pretty ritzy in the Midwest. This goes along with the “there’s nothing to do….” sentiment. I don’t know if that’s a source of pride or not.
As sucky as they are, you do still have a MLB team. We have the Nashville Sounds here (minor league for the Brewers), but there are still times I’d like to go to a real ballpark. I sure as hell am not driving to Atlanta, St. Louis or Chicago to do so either. +1 KC
Are The Woodlands still open? I don’t have horse/dog racing down here either. +1 KC
I have to go to Mississippi if I want to gamble at all… Tunica… gah. +1 KC
Worlds of Fun?? I have to go to Sucks Flags Kentucky Kingdom to get my fix… unacceptable. I can’t wait till I come back to KC at the end of this month… I’m gonna go brave the pungent asphalt stench and oddly turquoise waters of WoF as soon as I can. I haven’t been on the Orient (still the best coaster there IMO) in like 6 years. +2 KC (bonus for Oceans of Fun).
The Plaza is gorgeous… I don’t care how burnt out you are on it, it’s still pretty.
So it’s not New York… but it ain’t Bucksnort, TN. either (yes there is such a place).

Hate to say it
but the Orient is gone…there’s some small dumb spinning dragon coaster there now.

They're just going to move to LA
Los Angeles has been pushing for a team ever since the Rams and Raiders left… the move would make more sense than creating an expansion team and giving California it’s third franchise

i did not realize
that oakland and LA were so far apart. i though they were the same place until i just google-mapped it.
oh well, LA isn’t that far of a drive from san diego. that would be my guess as to where they would move to as well. either them, the rams, or the vikings.
